Body of millionaire tech entrepreneur, 33, is found decapitated and dismembered next to electrical saw in his luxury Manhattan apartment after footage showed him sharing elevator with professional killer

-NYPD detectives are hunting for a suspect who beheaded and dismembered a millionaire tech entrepreneur

-Body of Fahim Saleh, 33, was discovered by his sister who went to check on him in his luxury NYC apartment

-Saleh was last seen Monday afternoon on surveillance cameras getting into the elevator with the suspect

-The suspect was carrying a bag and wearing a mask and gloves at the time

-Footage has led cops to believe that Saleh was attacked as soon as he walked into his apartment

-Police say an electric saw was found near his body and was still plugged in but there was not much blood

-Parts of Saleh's body had been cut up and placed into bags and then distributed about the apartment

-Saleh was described by friends as a self-made millionaire who had set up a motorbike hailing app in Nigeria

The decapitated and dismembered body of a self-made millionaire has been found in his luxury Manhattan apartment by his heartbroken sister, and cops are now hunting for a professional killer who cut up the 33-year-old's corpse with an electric saw after following him into his apartment from the elevator.

The victim has been identified as Fahim Saleh, a millionaire tech entrepreneur who moved into his $2 million Lower East Side apartment late last year.

The alarm was raised by one of Saleh's siblings on Tuesday, after she became concerned because she had not heard from him for a day.

She went to the seventh floor unit to check on her brother and found his dismembered body in his home.

He had been cut up with a power saw, which was lying nearby and was still plugged in. Police sources said the body parts had been sorted into different plastic bags.

Police believe they have surveillance footage of the suspect entering the building on Monday and then using the elevator.

Video reportedly shows the gloved suspect wearing a hat and mask covering his face, and carrying a bag. He waited to enter the elevator with Saleh.

'The perp had a suitcase. He was very professional,' one police source told the Daily News.

Sources told the New York Post that as the pair rode up to the seventh floor apartment together, Saleh appeared puzzled.

No sooner had he stepped out of the elevator - which opened directly into his home - the attack began.

He fell to the floor after either likely being shot or stunned, the footage reportedly shows.

Police found that Saleh's legs below the knees and his arms had been removed, with the missing body parts placed into bags.

Surprisingly, there was very little blood. The New York Times reported that some effort had been made to clear up evidence.

Cops are now trying to work out whether the arrival of the victim's sister interrupted the dismembering of Saleh's body.

Detectives are also looking to see if the killer was able to escape through another exit.

'We have a torso, a head that's been removed, arms, and legs. Everything is still on the scene. We don't have a motive,' NYPD spokesman Sgt. Carlos Nieves said.

Saleh, who was born in Saudi Arabia but grew up in New York in a Bengali family, bought his luxury pad for $2.25 million last year and was clearly proud of his purchase - regularly posting pictures and video on his Instagram.

His LinkedIn profile reveals the former website developer was the CEO of a motorbike hailing company in Lagos, Nigeria.

The firm, Gokada, recently faced severe setbacks after being banned earlier this year by the Nigerian government.

It was forced to lay off staff and pivot from being a ride-sharing service to a delivery courier.

The ban came at a difficult moment for Gokada which had just raised $5.3 million in funding from Rise Capital, a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm, in May 2019.

After the ban was enacted, the firm stopped bringing in money and around 800 bikers working for Gorkada were also immediately laid off. Saleh, never one to give up, was working on new ideas and a new direction for the firm.

On June 2, he tweeted: 'Have a very good feeling about 2020.'

Later Tuesday, police could be seen in the condo's lobby at 265 East Houston Street and speaking with a woman who was in tears and who was believed to be one of Saleh's sisters who had found the body.

'She was really upset. Crying. Shaking,' neighbor Danny Faust said to The Post. 'She was just sitting there but you can tell her legs were shaking. She's nervous. She was crying like, you know, wiping her eyes.'

'She was screaming when she first came down,' Faust said.

'Dead body? Okay. But when you hear chopped up and dismembered? That's it. That's a sick type of mind for somebody to do that,' he added.

On Tuesday afternoon friends began showing up to his building. A couple said they believe that Saleh must have been targeted.

'He was extremely smart, ambitious, very kind. Always smiling,' one friend told the Daily News.

The friends said he was a self-made millionaire who had a passion for gadgets and video games.

He also enjoyed bringing tech companies into underdeveloped nations including Nigeria and Indonesia.

He never said he was scared,' another friend recalled. '[He was] always very happy-go-lucky.'

On Tuesday night, tributes were also being made online to Saleh.

'Rest in peace Fahim Saleh. Deepest condolences for his family and friends. The world is becoming inhumane day by day,' wrote Ashiq Rahman, a software engineer living in Toronto.

Wow such a gruesome murder which almost certainly looks to be a professional killing. Condolences to his family and hope the killer and those who put him up to it are caught ASAP.

Who would do something sinister like this? What was the motive?

Very sad to hear. RIP. I hope the offender is brought to justice quickly.

Looks like Mr. Saleh knew his killer as they were seen together by the CCTV cameras.

33 years isn't an age to die.

Such a horrific crime, I hope justice is brought swiftly.

The family of a young tech CEO who was brutally murdered in New York City has described the killer's actions as "nothing short of evil."

The torso of Fahim Saleh, 33, was found Tuesday in his condominium in Manhattan's Lower East Side with his head and limbs removed, the New York City Police Department previously told Business Insider.

Saleh had a venture-capital firm and was the founder and CEO of Gokada, a motorcycle-hailing company in Nigeria, as well as the found of Pathao, a ride-sharing company popular in Bangladesh and Nepal.

A family statement reported by The Daily Beast said: "No words or actions to provide any of us comfort except the capture of the person who exhibited nothing short of evil upon our loved one.

"We need and urge the NYPD and other members of law enforcement to work diligently to get to the bottom of this horrific crime and bring justice for Fahim."

An electric saw was found next to his body, and an unnamed law-enforcement source told the New York Post that the crime scene looked like that of a "professional" killing.

Saleh's family said "the headlines talk about a crime we still cannot fathom."

"Fahim is more than what you are reading," they said in the statement quoted by The Daily Beast. "He is so much more. His brilliant and innovative mind took everyone who was a part of his world on a journey and he made sure never to leave anyone behind."

He was Bangladeshi-American and co-founded a successful ride-sharing start-up in Bangladesh which was valued at $100 million. His most recent ventures were in Nigeria and Indonesia. This is so disturbing and the family must be devastated.

Don't think so. The assailant is most likely a professional contract killer. He was dressed in all black and had on gloves and a mask. He quickly followed Fahim into the lifts and pretended to swipe a fob to make it seem like he is a resident in the building and apparently in the CCTV footage it can be seen that Fahim became puzzled and uncomfortable. As soon as the lift reached Fahim's flat, the killer stunned him and then stabbed him to death inside the apartment.

The calculated nature of the murder (very little to no blood was found in the scene) also points to this. Apparently the killer had stayed in the apartment overnight so that the blood could coalesce before he started dismembering the body. He was interrupted by the victim's sister while in the process of dismembering the body and left the scene before he could finish. Possibly the sister got a look at him and could be key in catching the killer but she must be very traumatised right now.

It seems like a contract killing. My theory is it was ordered by someone who was familiar to Fahim.

Would be interesting to see who ends up being the culprit.

Detectives Suggest Possible Motive Behind Brutal Murder, Dismemberment of Tech CEO in NYC

Who killed 33-year-old tech CEO Fahim Saleh, and why? Detectives with the New York Police Department have not pointed to any suspects but say they believe the grisly killing happened because of a financial dispute. That’s according to reporting in The Daily Beast. Detectives say Saleh’s attacker could have been a person with a direct dispute with Saleh or could have been a hired hitman.

Police said that surveillance footage from the Saleh’s Manhattan building showed the victim entering the elevator at 1:40 p.m. Monday. In the building, elevators lead directly to apartments, and Saleh’s unit was on the seventh floor. In any case, the suspect — a man in all black, including a mask and hood — followed Saleh into the elevator, the police said. The victim used a key fob in the elevator to reach his floor.

It’s unclear what the two men said to each other since there are no audio records of their exchange, but video shows the suspect followed Saleh, put up a hand, and that Saleh fell to the floor. Authorities suggested the suspect possibly used a taser.

The actual killing doesn’t seem to have been caught on video, but officials said that Saleh was stabbed to death in the torso. The belief is that the suspect stayed overnight so that the blood in the victim’s body could coagulate. Then, the suspect began dismembering the corpse. The body was discovered Tuesday, however, when the victim’s sister went to check on her brother. Detectives suggested this interrupted the killer’s work.

Saleh was CEO of Gokada. The company began as a motorcycle ride-sharing service in Lago, Nigeria, but transitioned to deliveries after the city banned commercial motorcycles.

“Fahim is more than what you are reading,” Saleh’s family said in a statement. “He is so much more. His brilliant and innovative mind took everyone who was a part of his world on a journey and he made sure never to leave anyone behind.”

Looks like he was murdered by his personal assistant, Tyrese Haspil.

Tyrese stole $100,000 from Fahim and Fahim set up a payment plan to get the money back. As a result, Tyrese killed him.

Really sad incident. I hope this guy rots in prison.

Video shows cops arresting Tyrese Haspil in tech CEO Fahim Saleh’s death

At least a dozen cops converged on a lower Manhattan apartment building to arrest the 21-year-old assistant charged with murdering the tech CEO Fahim Saleh and chopping up his body, new video shows.

The surveillance video, obtained by The Post, shows cops walking the cuffed Tyrese Haspil out from the lobby of 172 Crosby Street to a squad car just after 8:45 a.m.

Haspil allegedly used a Taser on Saleh around 1:45 p.m. Monday as he exited the elevator into his apartment on Houston Street and chopped up his body, cops said.

The 21-year-old had worked as Saleh’s executive assistant handling his “finances and personal matters” but it was believed he owed the CEO and investor a “significant amount of money,” according to Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison.

Police charged Haspil with second-degree murder on Friday.

Tyrese Haspil spotted buying balloons after Fahim Saleh’s murder: sources

Just two days after tech millionaire Fahim Saleh was murdered and dismembered in his luxe Lower East Side apartment, his accused killer and trusted employee, Tyrese Haspil, was ready to party.

Even as he was the subject of an intense NYPD manhunt, a seemingly carefree Haspil is seen in footage obtained Saturday by The Post, strolling less than a mile from the crime scene with a mystery woman through swanky NoHo — at one point picking up a bouquet of birthday balloons, allegedly on his dead boss’s dime, law enforcement sources said.

“This guy is the new American Psycho, only dumber,” a law enforcement source told The Post of Haspil, who was Saleh’s personal assistant, and who sources and prosecutors say was careless enough to allegedly use the victim’s plastic not only before, but after the murder.

Saleh, 33, the CEO of ride hailing motorcycle app Gokada, had been Tased, stabbed and dismembered inside his East Houston Street apartment on Monday, officials say, blaming the murder on a disputed $90,000, allegedly embezzled by Haspil.

The well-liked entrepreneur’s dismembered body parts were discovered at his $2.2 million East Houston Street apartment Tuesday, by a worried female relative.

Haspil was allegedly trying to cover his tracks inside the apartment at the time, and when the cousin buzzed to be let inside, he bolted, law enforcement sources have said.

On Wednesday, as investigators still sifted through the horrific crime scene for clues, Haspil, 21, allegedly rented the deluxe, loftlike AirBnB just across Lower Manhattan, at the corner of Crosby and Bleecker streets, sources have said.

Surveillance footage shows the man sources identified as Haspil hopping into cabs for some retail therapy, taking strolls with his curvy mystery pal, and picking up the gaudy, metallic gold “22” helium balloons that he’d allegedly used the victim’s own credit card to buy, sources said.

As cops continued processing the crime scene — particularly the left-behind Taser, which had been purchased at a Home Depot with Saleh’s card.

Meanwhile, Haspil came and went with ease from his new so-called “hideaway,” which featured a large, distinctive half-circle window.

The footage shows him arriving at the swanky, fifth-floor pad at noon Wednesday, wearing a backpack and carrying a leather overnight bag.

“The space is perfect for 2, spacious, well laid out. It’s filled with sun all day. It has two balconies. Beats a luxury nyc hotel room. You’ll love it,” gushes a $145 a night listing on the site, for an apartment located at the same intersection.

About two hours later, he appeared on the sidewalk alongside the mystery woman, who investigators believe was also staying there.

At 2:20 p.m., Haspil was on the sidewalk again, accepting a curbside delivery of the three-balloon birthday bouquet.

Two of the balloons featured the number two, and the third was a matching gold heart.

Haspil and the gal pal are seen again at around at 6:55 p.m., carrying packages back after an afternoon out, the footage shows.

Throughout, Haspil walks unhurriedly, and sports a mask and a grey knit cap pulled low over his forehead.

Haspil, whose own 21st birthday had passed in January, apparently purchased the balloons for his female guest, whose name has not been released.

His festive freedom would last just two days.

Early Friday morning, at least a dozen cops converged on the hideaway. Still more surveillance video shows cops walking the cuffed Haspil to a waiting car.

Later that day, the balloons would be visible from the street, sagging against the inside of the half-circle window, through which the shadows of busy investigators could also be seen.

At an early Saturday arraignment, prosecutors said that surveillance video footage provides “overwhelming” supporting evidence that Haspil murdered his boss.

Haspil was caught on camera at Home Depot on West 23rd Street allegedly buying the saw and cleaning supplies found at the crime scene, Manhattan assistant district attorney Linda Ford said.

Haspil has been ordered held without bail on charges of second-degree murder.

In a statement Saturday, Haspil’s lawyers said: “We are in the very earliest stages of ferreting out the truth. The life of this case promises to be long and complex.

“We urge the public to keep an open mind. There is much more to this narrative than the accusations, an arrest by the police, and a charge by the District Attorney.”

Really unfortunate, his forgiving nature got him killed.

Yup.

This is why it is very important to hire the right person. He should've hired someone older and someone with lots of experience. He ended up hiring a kid (21 years old) who eventually stole his money and murdered him.

Wouldn't be surprised if the two were in a relationship :ssa

LOL! I doubt Fahim was gay.

These are the things we know so far:

- Killer was a personal assistant for Fahim.

- Killer stole thousands of dollars from Fahim's account. Fahim caught him and wanted the money back. Killer decided to kill Fahim instead of paying.

- Murder happened on Monday. Killer first used a taser on Fahim and then stabbed him to death.

- Killer went on Tuesday to clean up the mess. But, Fahim's sister showed up and killer fled without cleaning everything.

- Killer eventually got arrested within 5 days. He simply didn't cover his track well when he fled from the murder scene.

Right?

He was just a nice guy man
Way too nice!

Why? Is being gay a stupid thing?

Would the murder be less gruesome and more palatable if they were not gay?

Yup.

Stupid speculation without any evidence.

The back story is that this Hapsill guy was hired by Saleh when he was 16 after he won an award for some being a young up and coming businessman in the community, so Saleh offered him an internship to work for him as the kid was from an underprivileged minority background so he thought he could help an oppurtunity to someone who may not have had a chance - I'm not sure if the internship offer was part of the award. Anyways 5 years latter this kid moves up to become his personal assistant and then this.

It was a good gesture from Fahim but making Haspil personal assistant was a blunder (considering Fahim was a multimillionaire and Haspil was a kid).

Kindness shouldn't cloud judgement and personal security.

This is a message to all entrepreneurs. Watch who you hire.

Why? Is being gay a stupid thing?

It is not a stupid thing to be gay.

It is disrespectful and stupid to speculate about the personal life of someone who has been murdered without any evidence.

This might seem obvious to those with more years behind them, but have to bear in mind that Fahim himself must have been in his 20's when he hired this kid. Although once he Hapsil had stolen money from him alarm bells should have been ringing. He should not have kept him in employment, that was really naive, although no one could have foreseen what transpired.

I find interesting that they have charged him for second degree murder which according to wikipedia is "Any intentional murder with malice aforethought, but is not premeditated or planned in advance".

So the guy gets into the elevator, zaps the victim and then proceeds presumably to murder him. But the cops seems to have discovered pretty quickly that there was no advance planning.

It should be first degree murder! I don't know how it is second degree murder.

I hope it will be elevated to first degree.

Second degree is easier to prove, which from there they then build up a case to try for first degree.

It's one of the reasons prosecutors don't go for first degree straight away as it's extremely difficult to prove and the suspect just ends up being acquited.

I thought the same thing.

It should be first degree, which is premeditated murder. Given that he went armed and there wasn't an altercation of something to make him lose his "mental balance" it was clearly premeditated.

It may be that the lesser charge is due to his ethnicity given recent BLM events.

I don't think charges are elevated once they are filed, unless new evidence comes in.

First degree murder in NY will result in life imprisonment without parole, while second degree is usually 25 to life, so parole is possible after 25 years.

First degree murder is not difficult to prove if someone goes armed. Those charged with first degree do not mostly get acquitted either. There are currently over 5,000 felons serving life without parole in California ALONE.

You obviously have an issue with the black guy. You have jumped on the dead person's side. The possibility that he might have been gay is a slur on him in your little world. That's why you thought it was a stupid thing to say.

Suggesting that there might have been a non-platonic relationship between the two somehow offended you. I can also be a detective in a b-grade TV show.

Remind me again cuz I forgot. Are you a Modi fan or is that Itachi? Will be easier to slot you into a category.

Sorry, your post didn't make sense the first time I read it, and I couldn't be bothered to read it again to decipher your meaning.

It was not the speculation of the victim and the killer being in a relationship, but the smug smiley you added in the sentence. I liked your style of mocking the dead.
