In order of merit tentatively my best 10 batsmen of the last 50 years

1.Sachin Tendulkar
2.Viv Richards
3.Brian Lara
4.Gary Sobers
5.Barry Richards/Sunil Gavaskar
7.Greg Chappell/Graeme Pollock
9.Ricky Ponting
10.Alan Border

Tendulkar for phenomenal longevity and statistics.Viv for domination and supremacy in test and O.D.I and taking intimidation of oponents in sport to it's supreme degree .lara for single-handedly turning games inspite of bearing the brunt of one of the weakest sides and for registering mammoth scores more than anyone.Barry for taking art of batting to a higher dimension and the manner he scored his runs overshadowing anyone when playing international and Ist class cricket. Gavaskar for breaking all bating records without a helmet against the best bowlers.Greg Chappel for his supreme record against great pace bowlers.Graeme Pollock for batting like a left-handed Viv Richards.Ponting for his mastery against pace.Border for being the ultimate to bat for your life.

If I had obliterated performances in ODI's then Lara may well have been at the top and Gavaskar come considerably closer to the top.Obliterating first class or unofficial cricket Barry would not be there and Rahul Dravid or Javed Miandad would probably come at no 10.

The likes of Rahul Dravid,Kumar Sangakaara,Javed Miandad,Younus Khan,Ian Chappell,Rohan Kanhai ,Clive Lloyd Zaheer Abbas,Aravinde de'Silva just miss out.
