Someone ask Australia if they share this sentiment. You only hear Indians talk about Australia vs India as the greatest rivalry in cricket. It seems like India is forcing it down their throats.

To me it’s seems like a fragile ego problem. Since Pakistan vs India rivalry is pretty much dead, Indians are not comfortable with the fact that they can no longer boast to be custodians of the biggest rivalry in cricket which is the Ashes, so they have to force the narrative that Australia vs India is the biggest rivalry now.

I used to think the same but the interest I saw amongst Aussies during the last series was amazing, a lot of people in my gym was hooked to the series and even at MCG the crowd was even not just Indians.

Obviously Aussie fans won’t break things or come on roads after winning a cricket series like desi fans do, but they do follow the series keenly.

Aussies players take the series seriously as well, as we have seen in multiple series.

Most of the Aussie vs India series has been one of the closest series in last 25 years of cricket.

India vs Pakistan will always be the top series but we don’t get those series anymore and the one off matches in ICC events are mostly one sided so it seems a formality playing against them and winning. If ever India vs Pakistan Series happens again and Pakistan fields a competitive team then nothing can beat that series in any sport.

It’s deeper than just blooding new talent. There needs to be a robust framework for grooming young talent, and avenues for rising through the ranks. I can’t speak extensively to the quality of county level cricket in Pakistan but I would say that is where the first updates must occur.

Is Pakistan vs Bangladesh a bigger series than England vs New Zealand? The “viewership” for Pakistan vs Bangladesh is much higher than that for England and New Zealand because of the huge difference in the populations of the respective countries.
