What's new

Test Team after Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan's retirements?

1-Azhar Ali
2-Sharjeel Khan
3-Babar Azam
4-Haris Sohail
5-usman salahuddin
6-shadab Khan
7-Sarfaraz Ahmed
8-Mohammad Amir
9-Yasir Shah
10-Hassan Ali
11-Mohammad Abbas/Mohammad Asghar (depending on pitch)

Azhar Ali (obviously)
Ahmed Shehzad - I feel like he's suited to test matches. I know he basically had 100 lives vs WI in the 2nd test, he did show vigor. Bearing in mind it's his first test in a while. However if he plays in tests, please don't play him in LOIs. His low scoring rate and inability of rotating strike in tests will translate into that in LOIs. Unless he shows genuine growth, then give him a go at LOIs. Overall, Shehzad vs Aslam, I'd go for Shehzad just due to grit, and playing out the new ball.
Babar - not the greatest start to tests, but I'm sure he'll come good. Will keep the scoreboard ticking over, and has the ability to score big.
Haris - liked what I saw of him when he was fit in the Pak side. Left handed batsman too to have to L-R combo.
Usman - feel like he's gonna be here to slot into the #5 role. Would've said Fawad Alam but he isn't probably gonna get a look at sadly.
Shafiq - despite poor performances he'll still play
Sarfaraz - yep, new captain
Amir
Yasir
Abbas
Asghar - for variety. Don't want 2 leggie's in my team. If we play ENG/SA/AUS/NZ, then Hasan Ali. Quality LOIs player, will be great in tests too. Even Hasan over Abbas but I'm going for a team that'll 'probably' be the new test XI.

I would also bring Azhar back down the order to #3. The thing is that with Pakistan, two quick wickets early on in the piece send them into panic mode and what Azhar has done really well at #3 is to calm the nerves after an early wicket. I havent done a statistical analysis but off the top of my ahead, Azhar has had a higher percentage of failures (e.g. <10 or <20 runs) opening the innings than he had at #3 although he probably averages higher or similar due to a 200/300.

I would play the following team going forward:

1. Sami Aslam
2. Sharjeel
3. Azhar
4. Babar
5. Hafeez
6. Usman/Haris

Haris Sohail is probably the best prospect but he hasnt played a FC match in over 3 years, so I dont think he should come back until he has played at least half a season and got back in the habit of scoring big scores.

Hafeez is needed as a 5th bowler and he can be a pretty free flowing batsman away from the new ball. Of course, someone like Yamin should also be in the mix but I feel that he is at best, a #7 and his bowling would be of no utility in the subcontinent.

Shafiq needs to be dropped for good, he never inspires confidence while at the crease.

Here is hoping that Sharjeel gets away with a 6 month ban for not reporting, otherwise we will be stuck with Shehzad for the foreseeable future.

1. Azhar Ali
2. Sami Aslam | Bench: Shehzad
3. Mohammad Hafeez (5th bowler)
4. Babar Azam
5. Haris Sohail/Fawad Alam/Umar Amin
6. Asad Shafiq
7. Sarfraz Ahmed
8. Shadab Khan
9. Yasir Shah
10. Mohammad Amir
11. Mohammad Abbas

So basically play with a batsman short since Hafeez in the top order is bigger walking wicket than Asad ATM......

If Hafeez is to play, which I am pretty certain he will given our brainless chief selector and coaching staff, should play no higher than #6 in the lineup....

Babar is getting in based on ODI performances alone surely?

Need somone solid at #3. For Babar, its too much to ask to play #3 in Test.
Plus I feel pitty on bowlers for their extra load. Pak must have a 5th bowler.
I would name Aamer Yamin or Hussain Talat but Hafeez is much better batsmen than both.
Atleast as per Pakistan Cup and all previous competitions
