Very Close. Give very slight edge to 1970-89 because of having 2 of the best all-rounders in Sobers and Imran and a better skipper in Imran.1990-18 has a marginally more versatile bowling attack but 1970-89 is as lethal in terms of speed and movement. and more agressive..Equally formidable batting middle order but post-1989 xi has more match-winners in Warne,Gilchrist and Sehwag. The talent of Sobers,Lillee,Imran ,Viv and Marshall combined give it the most fractional of edges to the post-1989 team with stalwarts like Tendulkar,Lara ,Kallis,Warne and Gilchrist.Sobers being more of amartch-winner than Kallis and Viv Richards more dominating than Tendulkar play an important role in the result.

This comparison testifies how much the game progressed in 1979-89,perhaps at a level more than the subsequent 2 decades. No decade had as many great allrounders as the 1980's which is significant .

Lillee is the most overrated bowler of all time. Would replace him with Holding.

If you want to make a comparison between teams, post 1980 is a good hallmark.

For the 1970s side I would drop Sir Garry who retired in 1974, and bring in Hadlee.

Who would get the new ball though? Marshall for sure due to sheer speed. Lillee would grab it off Hadlee who was in awe of him. Lillee would do more with the new ball than Imran who would reverse the old one.

I would also get Underwood in for Bedi unless on a bunsen.
