What's new

The 3rd Test between Australia and India ends in a draw with India on 334/5

For a bowling attack hailed as ATG this attack has failed to close games on a few occasions now

Slightly disappointed but I think India could’ve won. I guess they changed plans after the fall of Pujara - nonetheless, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING resistance and resilience shown by the Indian batting.

The odds of a draw were only 5% with 75% in favor of an Aussie victory a few overs before tea today.

Yeah feel the same, esp coz we know next test we will lose..

Obviously...I mean if Yasir Shah can get 100s then it surely says something

Yup. As attritional as it gets.

Also lol, when did YS become benchmark? Also, for a person of Yasir’s technique and frailty when facing bounce it was great to see it against the “ATG” attack.

Lol who’s the kid shouting India india

Tbh Ryan Harris is one of the great bowlers of the past 20 years. It’s a shame he had so many injuries + came in so late.
Completely agree with this.
He could have been a great if he discovered that wrist position early in his career.

Isa guha, gilly and Mark Waugh calling this match one of the greatest escape by India , the quality of commentary has been so bad

TBH this looked like the greatest escape for Australia with vihari and jadeja injured on day 5 and India played for draw otherwise there was a high possibility India would have gone for a win and achieved it

Congrats Indian fans. What an effort!!

Truly a great team! What determination!

Where does this ATG label come from? Is it just due to stats? They almost lost the Brisbane Test too (think Cummins wasn’t there) but it was pre-Sandpaper so Starc had all his “skills” at his disposal.

That was a magnificent rearguard.

Absolute kudos to Rahane - his team tried to win and when Pant was out they made sure they didn’t lose.

I think Rahane is the best Indian skipper since the Nawab of Pataudi.

Only the pitch in Perth has historically been pacey n bouncy - rest are pretty much flat surfaces across Australia.

WACA? Yup, but even that became a shadow of itself over the years (unless I am incorrect in recalling it). They have moved from WACA anyway now.

One can label someone ATG after they achieve something historic, this attack has failed to deliver results on their own home pitches, still a very long way to label this Australian attach ATG

Well done india excellent reguard to earn a test draw here. All their batsmen showed great fight and heart.

Hahaha Ashwin wife on twitter
Channel 7 just cut to the news
Maybe he refering when Paine & Ash talking to each other after the match

Starc is not even half the bowler since the team lost the ability to sandpaper the ball.

He averaged 20 in the 2 years up to April 2018. But he still doesn’t know how to plan a red ball over.

This is probably the best Australian XI in the country. This day 1 SCG pitch was the flattest since 2013 and Australia got to bat first. India severely depleted and yet managed to draw batting last . This drawn test match is more valuable than a win imo. It just showed tremendous character and grotesque from our side. Inspiring performance !

The best part was they tried to win it with Pant, and then when he fell a rear guard.
Awesome draw from an awesome team.
Full of Jazba, Junoon and Daleri.

Nice excuse. Now this can be used to justify the series result .

They would have blasted away just about everyone else at home.

Who toured earlier and who is touring later? We can see the results.

Just because Indians showed great resilience, I think it's wrong to put down a great bowling unit.

It was defn much harder than the win.. considering our situation..

They are not an ATG attack...only Cummins is an ATG material others are good but no greats.

Superb rearguard effort from India today. On a separate note, wonder what @Bhaagvirubhaag has to say about Pant’s innings today

I don't think Indians batted this long in 4th inning while playing away to draw a test in the last 30-40 years.

That’s good and bad. I would guess that they would struggle a bit against ENG too.

In reality, they should struggle against most. Wickets in AUS fall as much if not more due to lapses in batsmen’s concentration and errors as from unplayable deliveries. Which I would contrast with say dismissals in say, ENG (movement) NZD (movement/some bounce) or SAF (bounce/movement).

Which means the one controllable teams have is to apply themselves. And it is in this regard where IND stand out. Attritional cricket at its best.

Don’t think they would have “blown away” even PAK’s mediocre line up. But they would have gotten them out very cheaply courtesy of a lack of application and technique.

They’re def not better than 2000s Aussie as few people claimed lol

Does India have 11 fit bodies for next Test?

You need strong hearts and mind to fight in Test Matches , Cricket is a mind game . If Pant was also negative Aussies would have rolled over India easily , this is a attitude that Ganguly implanted in the Indian team

Hats off to India. Pakistan on this wicket would have folded badly, perhaps the match would have been over on Day 4

This attack has bowled to England in the last Ashes , SL, Pakistan, the current number 1 side New Zealand and India at home and they destroyed every one of them except India. Some are just making excuses now.

What difference would smith and warner could have brought to the 2018 India tour of Australian team when the so called ATG Australian attack is still failing to deliver results in their own home conditions come 2021

England faced the same bowling attack in 2017/18. See the result of that.

Yes...great performance and I'll say it's better than the 2018 win

Their bowling is fine. Its their captain, he sucks.

BCCI should never agree to pink ball tests in Australia. If it weren't for that session of madness , we might have been 2-0 going into the final test:(

131 overs - the most overs batted by an Asian team to get a draw in Australia.

Previous best was 90 overs by India in 2014-15.

for any great bowling unit the first benchmark is to achieve is, to deliver results by winning test matches for ur team on regular basis at-lest at their home

This attack still has one more chance to at least prove why they are regarded greatest but IMO this attack has a very long way to achieve that status

Former Australian cricketers are very quick to label themselves greatest with the recent historic performance they have showed in the cricketing world but this match should humble them

does 36 all out counts as something significant.
This is an ATG attack

England faced the same bowling attack in 2017/18. See the result of that.

I know the result. I am talking about who in theory can be a thorn in their side.

Disagree about “blowing away” most oppositions. Getting a team out cheaply is not the same as blowing them away.

The actual dismissals and their repeatability in terms of the bowlers’ skills is what defines that.

Let’s put it like this? Do you feel they “blew” IND away in Adelaide in the second innings? I do not. It was squarely a one-off and I don’t think we needed two more Tests after it to know it was a one-off.

I think I saw it happen. On another day that same set of scenarios with a simple change in terms of batsmen being a bit more disciplined and IND could have gotten 100-200 or something.

So if Smith didn’t fire in this test match india would have surely won?

Massssssssssddd

Hum jeet Gaye.

4 ATG knocks in one test innings battling injury.

This test will be remembered for decades..... Just like Mcg...

This series etched in our minds till we die.

Wooowwwww

Pathetic commentary. AUS were lucky to escape. Would pay good money to be in the AUS dressing room during the debrief see them voice their opinions.

So if Smith didn’t fire in this test match india would have surely won?

If Kohli was there.. Maybe we might have won even with him.

But that's a what if.

The batting was appalling in first innings.

100 run lead was there for the taking for a decent batting unit

Brilliant India.. what character and fight shown. Going 1-1 to next game was unthinkable.
Again just like in MCG Pant showed the way with his positivity!

This is an ATG attack

Still a long way to label them ATG, when this so called ATG attack is not able to take 8 wickets on a day 5 pitch with two injured batsmen

Good batting surface. Typically Sydney helps spinners a lot on the last day. DId it turn? I didn't catch the match.

So Eng, Pakistan, SL and NZ have been thrashed by Aus bowling unit. Who is left? SA, WI ? I don't fancy these two to do much right now.

Indians playing well hardly means that bowling attack is not a great one. They are full strength and bolwing well as well. Even today, they created so many chances.

From a viewing spectacle its a shame Pant got out when he did. At time 150 were needed from 50 overs. India may have then had a real go at chasing this total down.

So if Smith didn’t fire in this test match india would have surely won?

Even if he’d fired in just one innings, IND would have been in with a good chance. The AUS line up is fickle and it is great to see IND be the better of the two sides, especially by using their wits and drive to succeed instead of brazen strokeplay.

Think AUS have a lot of soul-searching to do. Batsmen not good enough to bat out in seaming/swinging conditions. Bowlers not good enough to get wickets easily on flatter decks. Steeple bounce nowhere to be seen in AUS. What do they ask for in Gabba?

From the AUS PoV they need some moments of (repeatable) bowling brilliance to get their mojo back. Which is a very difficult situation to be in.

Bhai an australian ATG attack allowed west indies to chase 450,
They werent able to dismiss Vasbert Drakes and some unknown player .

That was a magnificent rearguard.

Absolute kudos to Rahane - his team tried to win and when Pant was out they made sure they didn’t lose.

I think Rahane is the best Indian skipper since the Nawab of Pataudi.

This competitiveness is Kohli’s legacy. He turned things around after Dhoni undid the hard work of Ganguly in Test cricket.

If the timid Rahane was Indian skipper over the last 6 years, the attitude of this Indian team would have been completely different. Kohli is the GOAT Asian Test captain.

Also, what was it again? Pant is 80% the batsman Rohail is or is Rohail 120% the batsman Pant is?

What a comeback by India. Great character in this team. Even if we had lost the match, I would have been proud of the way they fought. Pant, Pujara, Vihari, Ashwin, Bumrah, Jadeja, Rahane, Gill, even Rohit, everyone showed tremendous character.

From a viewing spectacle its a shame Pant got out when he did. At time 150 were needed from 50 overs. India may have then had a real go at chasing this total down.

Yeah, hopefully in the future he can do it..

When England have toured here there's no way these wickets have been this flat, a normal scg wicket on day 5 is a rag Turner with alot of uneven bounce, this was like a road.

So if Smith didn’t fire in this test match india would have surely won?

You can't say that. I would have never expected this Indian team to play as they have played in the last 2 tests.

Smith not being there may have inspired others to step up. Or if Kohli had played then India would have won this despite Smith/Warner playing this test. We can't say anything ...
