Thommo and Wally Grout are going to be inducted this Wednesday, which led me to read the current list for the first time.

And I have to say "how on earth did Mark Waugh, Tubby Taylor and Graham McKenzie (bowling average of 30) get in?" Lindsay Hassett is a pretty dodgy choice too, as is Monty Noble, whose main claim to fame is having the best stand in the world named after him at the SCG.

How did a long term National Captain who is not only arguably one of our greatest ever Captains but undefeated in Ashes series and led Australia to finally regain the Frank Worrell trophy and has a triple century making the National Hall of Fame?

You serious?

I like Tubby a lot, and admired his captaincy too.

I just don't think he was a good enough batter to be in the Hall of Fame. In fact, the need to accommodate him really delayed Matthew Hayden's career - he probably should have partnered Michael Slater from 1993 onwards.

Well he is a far better batsman than Lillee and Lillee got in.

If players were granted the status of greats for captaincy alone then you'd see Mike Brearley and Mark Taylor right up there.

But although Tubby cashed in on a flat Pakistani track right at the end of his career, with Wasim and Waqar both out of the match, the two innings scores in that match were 599-4 declared and 580-9 declared.

Take away that innings and what do you have for Mark Taylor's batting career?

A Test average of 41.57, that's what.

Mark Taylor Captained Australia for 50 tests with an over 50% win record.

During this time we only lost two series and one of them was a one test series.

That warrants selection in the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame.

So explain why you take away some of his innings, do you do the same for bowlers too when they play on bowler friendly pitches.
