Sunil Gavaskar on commentary saying that the BCCI has the best junior system in the world, giving youngsters a good chance in the IPL, at junior levels, in domestic cricket and at Under16 and Under 19 level.

Is he right?

"I think we are very confident with the process and preparation we’ve set up," he said. "At the start of the cycle, I tell a lot of these guys who are pushing for spots, ‘We’ll give you enough opportunities to put your hand up and select yourself.’ And honestly, hand on heart, at least 40-45 boys can say, ‘Hey, we got a chance. We got opportunities.'"

India has done well at the U19 level in the last few years

Seems that a lot of youngsters are coming through the IPL too, whereas in the past that wouldn't have happened.

I don't think so.. most are part of domestic setup or U-19 teams before they become members of IPL.. IPL does highlight them ..

There are lot of things that we boast about that I don't agree with but this is not one of them. I genuinely believe we have the best cricketing youth system in the world.

One of the best I believe. Results are not the biggest things as shown by the selections in the big youth tournaments. No one repeats from one wc cycle to the next, no matter how good or young. U19 Asia cups, the emerging Asia cups are used for the fringe players to get experience, those who aren't good enough for the world cup teams. All in all, player development is the key.

Investment, planning, junior tours, competitive cricket at the junior level, a good schools system and good talent scouts - the basics of a good cricket system.
