The biggest issue in the current team is not mediocrity - it is weak mental belief

Whilst there will be many posters even me at times who will talk about the mediocrity of the team yet I personally believe that the main issue is the weak mental belief system and lack of intelligence. This translates into the problem of lack of leadership. While it is true that skills and hardwork are important for players yet the actual battles are played in the minds. In the first test, we had them 117-5 and then they played counter-attacking cricket. We might think we lost due to lack of experience and skills of bowlers, but the main issue was the weak mental mindset. This team is afraid of losing and the captain demonstrates and translates that into the performance. Strong mental mindset captains and players will attack the new batsmen mentally as well as physically in situations like 117-5.If the other team still wins the match then that's fine but showing the strength to fight to win the game needs to be seen.
The similar mindset has been demonstrated in the 3rd Test. After getting the first 4 wickets quite cheaply, we never attacked Crawley and Buttler mentally as well. Before the game, Crawley had no centuries and Buttler had just one so they were not the ones who had the habits of scoring these runs. In the 1st Test match, Woakes was able to do that. The skills of both teams are not that different as we might think but it is weak mental mindset and lack of intelligence that makes us a 7th ranked team. Otherwise, the skills are there to be around at 4th. The mediocrity is also an issue if we want to be the best team but right now the main problem is not mediocrity. Debate.

No it’s mediocrity too

I also agree mediocrity is an issue as written above but I feel it is not the main issue right now. Mental strength can bring us to 4th-5th best team and not 7th or worse than that. Mediocrity will not allow the team to do better than 4th.

Most of our players have below average talent, and to complement their below average talent, they have low IQ levels. If I name the players who fall in the below average category, people will start foaming in their mouths and through expletives at me.

Aqalmand ke liye ishaara kaafi...

No the biggest issue in the side is this guy ---------> :salute

Despite all his flaws Mickey was making the same team compete. This ukp came in and ruined everything. I hope he gets heckled and abused at the airport. Besharam beghairat.

Keeping our emotions aside, your statement is true. My thread does not escape from the fact that we have mediocrity in the set-up. But this low IQ and mentally weak players will sink us below 7th.With the mediocrity, my personal belief is that the ceiling is the 4th best team. But for that you need high IQ and mentally strong leadership and all players at high confidence with good atmosphere. We have none sadly.

A good captain can get mediocre players to punch above their weight. A pathetic captain can make world class players into kittens

I know we will never be a top team but what do you think which TEST XI and ODI XI can be at least better than this one? I know there are not enough talented players but still Player A must b at least better than Player B in something.

I understand your emotions but we have to keep our emotions aside. Misbah is a big issue that is true but Mickey Arthur was also not the solution which means the issue is much bigger than Misbah. The trio of Misbah, Waqar and Azhar is aggravating the situation. We need to think logically and understand the root of the problems. The main issue is mental strength and IQ which includes removing Misbah, Waqar, Azhar and some other mental midgets in the team. After that, we have to do something about mediocrity too but that is secondary at the moment.

Bowling proved to be weak.

Maybe having a SHadab would had helped here, or maybe an extra pacer.

Who is that world class player?

The players with potential are Shaheen and Naseem. Babar is the proven player. A good captain makes a big difference with his proactiveness, field placings, planning, engagement with the bowlers and teams. You give Shaheen and Naseem to Imran Khan and watch how he would utilize them

Should teams carry a Psychologist/Psychiatrist along when they tour? I am thinking it can't be a bad investment if they can address mental issues of the players.

Let me put it this way - there is no possible combination in the country that can make us a top 4 team.

Any changes would have incremental effects, but remotely not enough to change our fortunes against the top sides.

Actually, the real issue is outside the team. These are ordinary players and as a result, they are playing ordinary cricket.

These players are giving their best but unfortunately, they don’t have the capacity to be world class.

The real issue is with the expectations of the fans. There is a huge gap between the actual ability of this team and the impression that the fans have about the ability of this team.

For a small, weak cricket nation, our fans are too loud and arrogant. They have the attitude of a top team while the team itself is a small one.

That is why they keep fishing for excuses and will target punching bags like Misbah and Waqar because it is not easy for them to accept the reality and swallow the bitter pill.

Fully agree with you.

Is it possible for Pakistan to be in top 3 in next 50 years?

I think they can become No 1 if other nations start playing cricket at moon 😂.

The problem is quality. All this mental weakness is **. Pakistan cricket will never change if our fans and PCB don't admit we aren't good enough.
