I don't know any other country in the world where such behavior will be tolerated by the public and other institutions at large. Richard Nixon during the Watergate scandal had successfully stalled the investigators, Congress, Senate for almost 2 years when it came to holding on to the white house audio tapes but his game was up when the US Supreme Court ruled that the President did not have blanket executive privilege's and immunity and must be held accountable according to the law of the land. Nixon had no choice but to hand over the tapes to the prosecutors.

Will any local Pakistani want to continue living in Pakistan knowing full well that even the Supreme Court cannot protect them and guarantee their rights? Which high profile foreign investors will ever want to do business in the country knowing full well that the Supreme Court of the country and its judgements, instructions are worth nothing?

I am just surprised at the complete lack of action by the people of Pakistan at large or the other state institutions in this saga where the PDM government is free to do whatever it wants and there is no one to hold them accountable

CJP knew it was a military coup back in April last year because the courts were forced to open at midnight but he stayed quiet, the SC stayed quiet when Arshad Sharif( Shaheed) was murdered, it also stayed quiet when judges were personally attacked by the mafia and today we are totally at the mercy of the Generals and their puppets. There will be no elections and the SC is now in a bind because it knows it is right but has no power to enforce its decisions.
In a perverse sort of way this terrible period will actually be good for PK because it has destroyed the mafia families democratic credentials and going forward Billo, Nani and Junaid will have to live with the consequences of their collaboration. This will pass and PK has been set back back by decades but if we survive this attack on PK, we will be stronger for it.

SC registrar summoned over PAC’s demand to audit court’s accounts

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday has summoned the Supreme Court registrar for skipping the audit of the apex court for the last decade.

This was not the first time that PAC demanded to look into the SC’s accounts. Chairman of PAC Noor Alam Khan wondered why SC was denying the office of auditor general Pakistan, access to its accounts since the last 10 years.

The PAC chief has summoned the SC registrar after Eidul Fitr holidays. Last month, the PAC sought a record of salaries of the SC judges and other perks and privileges that they enjoy.

Furthermore, the PAC has also directed Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination to revoke powers, perks and privileges of administrator of Gun and Country Club, Naeem Bokhari, upon learning that he had denied the AGP access to records.

“Block his petrol card and he should not be allowed to use office of the gun club,” Mr Khan said.

The directions came after secretary, Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) Ahmad Hanif Orakzai informed the committee that Mr Bokhari was running a one man show at Gun and Country Club (GCC).

“There is no financial discipline at Gun Club. We have asked the AGP to conduct a special audit of the Gun Club,” Mr Orakzai said. He is heading the temporary management committee of the GCC, formed by the SC. Mr Bokhari is also its member, and operates the club’s accounts.

SC rubbishes reports about lack of audit over 10 years
PAC had summoned the Registrar of the Supreme Court for not conducting audit for 10 years

The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday issued a clarification pertaining to its financial records not being audited for the past 10 years.

Some news reports on the audit of the Supreme Court of Pakistan had stated that the audit of the apex court had not been conducted for the last 10 years and the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) had summoned the Registrar of the Supreme Court.

A clarification issued by Hina Firdous, Public Relations Officer of the Supreme Court, said that the audit of the apex court has been conducted and completed upto June 30, 2021, adding that the audit for the financial year 2021-2022 was under process and can be confirmed from the office of the Auditor General of Pakistan.

It is, hereby, clarified in concrete terms that such reports are contrary to the facts, incorrect, misleading and are based on erroneous information placed before the Public Accounts Committee, the officer added. It is pertinent to mention here that the statement comes a day after the PAC again summoned the Registrar of the Supreme Court for not conducting an audit of the apex court’s financial records. PAC Chairman Noor Alam Khan observed that the top court had not had its financial records audited for the past 10 years.
