It's a known fact that the Pakistan bowling in the 90s was world class and the best - they had everything the seam/ swing of Wasim and Waqar, the pace of Shoaib, the guile of Saqlain and the accurate support from Razzaq and Mahmood. While the gulf in class in terms of bowling resources between now and the 90s has been glaring, the batting comparison looks close.

Anwar vs Fakar
Sohail vs Imam
Inzi vs Babar
Youhana vs Haris
Razzaq vs Fahim
Malik vs Malik
Moin vs Sarfaraz

These are close comparisons. Your thoughts ?

Tthink the main difference is most Pakistani batsmen of the 90's had a price tag, and therefore always under achieved in my eyes.

Pakistani batting in the 90s was not as world-class as people call them out to be. They had alot of talent but most of them were perennial underachievers who failed to step-up when Pakistan needed them most i.e '96 QF and '99 final. What's the point of having such an abundance of talent and skill when you have so little to show for it?

Current Pakistani batting probably isn't even one of the Top 5 ODI batting outfits in the world if Australia play Smith and Warner and they were still able to win the CT and remain one of the teams to beat at the WC.

So I'm sorry but all this reminiscing about the 90s Pakistani team feels like eye-wash to me, and comparing players from both eras seems equally pointless. Because unlike the 90s team this side actually has the chance to achieve something more.

Well written and agree that the current bunch is a shadow of the kind of players that were representing Pakistan in the 90's (Fearless and very confident)

No contest in terms of skill, but the current bunch might win Pakistan more matches. The nostalgia is nice, but the way the 90s team is hyped as world beaters is funny.
