Wasim Khan at a media talk:

"I went to Australia to speak to the board about a couple of issues"

"One was that in 2022 we will host Australia for 2 Tests according to the FTP. Our wish is that every series we play is 3 series long"

"Our Test teams go to Australia and South Africa and tend to fail because we don't play enough cricket"

"So the good news is that when Australia comes in 2022, they will play 3 Tests here"

"From 2023-2031 in the next FTP, we have an agreement in principle for 3 Tests, 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is on a reciprocal arrangement"

"We have spoken to NSW about scholarship programmes, we have young players here and they should get exposure so we're organising that"

"The next thing is our A tours. We tour SL, BD a lot but we don't go Australia, England, South Africa and New Zealand. It's very important for our players to get exposure there. We are looking at a 4 year cycle where we have 1 tour in these countries for our A teams and U19 teams"

"These things can't be finalised over telephone. I am clear in my mind about the purpose of my visit. Some people are saying I went for a holiday, they are free to think that. But the results that we've finalised in Australia, we will be publicising those"

"We have a Chairman and a Board also. I'll be stepping down as the Chairman of the Cricket Committee, I will remain a member but I won't be the Chairman. There should be autonomy with an independent Chairman who is an ex-cricketer"

"People also say that Misbah is powerful. Nadeem Khan was there in the press conference yesterday and explained the process for selection with the 6 selectors. It's not about power and control. The Chairman is the residing factor. The decisions we are taking are for the betterment of Pakistan cricket"

Very well said and I like how he is pushing for 3 test series, that is a must for each series. Also, I am glad to see that he wants more A team tours to overseas to SA, NZ, Eng, AUS etc., that is also very important to develop our youngsters.

These things never happens overnight give him time, it will take 2-3 years to bear the fruits.

Surprised by the thread about not everything rosy at the PCB. When someone challenges the status quo, we will inevitably have such a situation. It's how the PCB comes out of this is what will matter in the end.

I'm fully backing WK to 'cleanse' the PCB from the useless leeches occupying important posts since forever. Even if it means the exit of Mudassar Nazar, so be it.

I'm sure in time he will realize the mistake of giving someone as mediocre as Misbah two jobs aswell.

By then there will be nothing left for Pakistan cricket. Sometime single mistake can destroy whole future.

By appointing Misbah and Waqar not only Wasim himself stuffed his future prospect but also ruined Pakistan cricket.
Once he will release from PCB he will not find any good offer because no board will allow its MD to make such a mistake in crucial stage of the country's future.

It took Lord Maclarin about 4 years to overhaul English cricket. From being beaten by Zimbabwe in the 1990’s and praying for the weather to help us out from losing positions he went through a structured program where England beat Sri Lanka and Pakistan away and finally beat Australia at home. The key thing was he appointed the right captains and coaches once he was settled in his position. It takes time to overhaul a cricket system. Wasim Khan is in the right track. The best thing he’s done is saved money on expensive and surplus staff until he gets the structure right. The focus on junior cricket and tours is essential as right now the senior team is full of players who are deficient in skill and technical ability. In a year or two the juniors will graduate and hopefully be battle hardened.

We simply don’t play enough test cricket nor do we have the financial clout of England Australia or India. Hopefully he’s going to create a product that will attract sponsorship.

misbah being coach or selector is not the end of the world, he is a man of integrity and has been given the job as a stop gap while wasim cleanses the PCB of all this deadwood, we may have 1-2 years of mediocrity but it will be worth it mark my words, this should have happened years ago.

@ Abid Z, But he didn't select inexperience and bias person like Misbah and failure like Waqar as coach. If Wasim really wants to do something first take those old leeches from the system then dump useless players and create a good set of young players who can serve us as future

Pakistan invites Australia to send team to country for Test series in 2022

The Pakistan Cricket Board is trying to convince Cricket Australia to send its national team for a Test series in Pakistan in 2022, according to its CEO Wasim Khan.

“Cricket Australia has agreed in principle to play three Tests in Pakistan’s home series. Obviously, we are doing everything to ensure Australia agrees to play in Pakistan in 2022 and it is an ongoing process,” Khan told reporters.

He added that under the new Future Tours Program, whenever Pakistan and Australia play a bilateral series it will include three Tests.

Australia has not toured Pakistan since 1998, forcing the 1992 World Cup champion to conduct its home series’ at neutral venues, including Sri Lanka, England, and UAE.

The PCB official lamented that whoever from the board had agreed to the existing Future Tours Program schedule has not given enough importance to Test matches.

“It is unfortunate that we are among those countries who play the least number of Test matches in a season. Whereas other leading nations play 8 to 14 Tests in a year we don’t even get six to seven,” he said.

Khan also confirmed that the PCB has dispatched the proposed itinerary of the ICC Test Championship Tests to the Bangladesh Cricket Board to be played in January.

“We have sent the itinerary and are awaiting a response. After Sri Lanka’s arrival to play the two Tests we don’t foresee any problems in the Bangladesh board agreeing to send their team in January,” he said.

He stated that the top security arrangements would be provided to the Bangladesh team which has also not toured Pakistan since 2008.

Khan also said that the PCB would now send its A team and under-19 teams every year to Australia, South Africa, New Zealand or England so that the upcoming players get a chance to play in those conditions.

He added that the PCB was also in talks with the Afghanistan, Ireland and South African boards to convince it to send its teams to Pakistan next year or in 2021.

Khan also dismissed suggestions that he had gone on a vacation/joy trip to Australia and that he was the most powerful person in the PCB.

“They are issues which can’t be discussed or finalized on phone or mails. I will let everyone know why I went to Australia soon. And I am not the most powerful person in the board it is a wrong impression. Misbah-ul-Haq also does not take decisions unilaterally as head coach and chief selector,” Khan said.

Hopefully we will send players based on merit not by connection like PSL

I don’t think waqar is a failure as a coach. Have you read his reports. They are a real eye opener and Mickey implemented almost all of his recommendations. I don’t think misbah is a failure either without him in the team, the ODI unit did worse and without him in tests we slipped from 1 to 7. You can certainly disagree with the appointments that’s your right but one thing we can agree is that the pcb structure is just not fit for purpose anymore and as it was devised in the 70’s is due for an overhaul to bring it into the 21st century.

I just don’t think another elite coach can fix the system as it’s a nuts and bolts job. Elite coaches tend to slip into well functioning systems not create them. Who knows who will be coach in a year or two but right now let wk do his hatchet job.

Misbah appointed for 3 years that's where Wasim Khan messed up. Shouldn't appoint someone without any skill or experience more than 6 months.

True but skilled coaches haven’t done much better. Better appoint somebody who the board can work with instead of foreign coaches who complain about internet connection

why have a coach at all then when they dont need to have any skills. Let go without a coach.

Our team performance is getting better and better. We are lucky to have you to select hidden gem like Misbah and Waqar as our head coach cum selector with no accountability and a brilliant bowling coach.
Thank you Wasim Khan!!!! We are proud of you.

Appointment of Misbah and the way he was appointed will be a black spot on Wasim Khan.
