It is looking as if Zimbabwe is about to lose its Full Membership of the ICC.

As many of you know, cricket was traditionally the game of white Rhodesians. They were English speakers - unlike other Southern African whites like AB De Villiers or FAF du Plessis, and there were about 300,000 of them in Rhodesia, which became Zimbabwe in 1980.

Unfortunately, years of land expropriations and violence have led to 90% of the white population of Zimbabwe leaving, in contrast with South Africa where over 90% of whites have remained since democracy arrived. In cricketing terms, Zimbabwe managed until the early 2000's but are now weaker than most Australian local grade teams.

Worse than that, in 2007 the ICC commissioned and released a report which showed massive financial irregularities at Zimbabwe Cricket, with misuse of large amounts of ICC funds - a pattern which was to be repeated to the tune of $6 million in 2014. But the BCCI vetoed any action being taken against Zimbabwe Cricket.

It appears to those of us on the outside that up until now, Zimbabwe Cricket has been protected by certain Boards at the ICC to effectively provide them with an additional vote.

But it also appears - perhaps due to the failure to prevent reform of the Big Three model - that Zimbabwe Cricket has outlived its usefulness, and what was previously seen as a cheap source of an additional vote may now be viewed as a waste of money which could be directed elsewhere.

Either way, the ICC has now announced its intention that Full Member status will be reviewed every five years, and according to the quality of a Board's governance.

Which makes it very hard to see how Zimbabwe Cricket can survive.

Zimbabwe was such a great team in the past that it is sad to see how bad they are right now.

Maybe that's the kick they needed to put their effort together ..

If you kick Mugabe he won't make a greater effort, rather he will make a somersault and land with his teeth fixed on your leg.

Robert Mugabe's cronies in the ZCB have destroyed a once-successful sporting team. Zimbabwe were no mugs in the 1990s and had tough players that could battle with the best. The massive wastage of ICC funds due to corruption is the biggest crime and ZCB director Ozias Bvute is one of the guilty men.

For example, in 2012 a $6m loan from the ICC was intended to retire a portion of ZC's high-interest debt. Instead deposited in a non-interest-bearing account with MetBank. Who is one of the directors of MetBank ? None other than Ozias Bvute ! With people like that at the top, no wonder Zimbabwe are in the state they're in.

I'll give you another example - the sad story of Harare Sports Club's floodlights. Pylons were built years ago but the lights have not gone up because ZCB cannot afford the cost of getting them installed. So for years those lights have sat at the airport for customs fees to be paid so they could be put up !

The pay of players at international and domestic cricketers is meagre and that's if the players get paid on time - infact recently a Logan Cup (Zim's FC competition) match had to be abandoned as the players were on strike over non-payment of salaries. The domestic competition itself is low on quality and talent.

The better cricketers like Brendan Taylor and Kyle Jarvis would rather ply their trade overseas now. The only light at the end of the tunnel is when old man Mugabe hits the deck. Mugabe meanwhile has announced he's standing for the 2018 elections at the ripe age of 92 !

Sometimes the only way to change it is to burn it to the ground (your interpretation of this may vary depending on which side your on)

Cricket in Zimbabwe is dead and buried. Unless the leadership changes, I don't ever see Zim recovering.

The damage done over the past 13 years is so catastrophic, even good governance won't stop the slide. Zimbabawe on current form will struggle to compete with Nepal or Hong Kong in any format.

Actually Mugabe is a great fan of cricket and believes in it very strongly. Still because of his racist politics and cronyism, there is no chance of things improving at ZCB.

I feel very sad seeing the current status of Zimbabwe cricket and remembering the 90s Zim. What a prospective team gone to dust. Feel for them. What worse can politics do,Zim cricket is the example.very sad.

Racism has ended cricket in Zimbabwe and the same way Nepotism will end cricket in Pakistan.

Zimbabwe are done.

15-4 against Zimbabwe today chasing 253. Feel sorry for the few fans that are left, but this looks like a cricketing nation that cannot compete at this level anymore.

Relegate them to the World Cricket League.

Terrible no wonder there isn't a match thread just saw the score, not even worth it.

And now 29-5.

Afghanistan all set to beat Zimbabwe for the third consecutive series.

There really is not a single reason why Zimbabwe get millions of US dollars and fixtures and Ireland and Afghanistan don't. Yet ZCB will vote to save their own ***** in the next ICC meeting and try shut down the first attempt ever at even trying to make cricket more meritocratic.

Totally agree, Zim has no future and its been a terrible waste of 100`s of millions of dollars which have been stolen. Both Ireland and Afgh could have built stadiums with the money and developed some real cricketing infrastructure.

A full side simply should not lose consecutive series to an associate nation, let alone be bowled out for 54... That's downright embarrassing. Give half of Zimbabwe's money to Afghanistan, the other half to Ireland.

Zimbabwe break ODI record being all out playing lowest number of balls

Zimbabwe has been all out against Afghanistan in the last match of 5 odi series in 83 balls. This is the new odi record of being all out. The previous record was by namibia,84 ball. With this, now zim hold both the lowest runs(35) and lowest balls records in odi again. And by loosing this match Zim lost the series by 2-3 to afghanistan.Pathetic for Zim.

Disgusting to see Afghanistan and Ireland not being full member but Zim being one. They have zero respect and interest in cricket, just leeching off ICC for money.

80% of Zimbabwe's players are overweight and unfit. Most of them don't have any desire to win. They never show any anger be it with umpiring decisions or their poor play. They play with next to no heart.
