Well right, for the second or the third time in a row immediately after the conclusion of a yet another edition of the Champions Trophy, we´re hearing the news of the ICC considering the possibility of scrapping it altogether.

This time though, there´s some merit to their considerations. Having a 10-team ODI World Cup without the inclusion of minnows and then the current format of the Champions Trophy kind of makes them very identical tournaments and there remains hardly a difference between the two.

However, instead of scrapping it altogether, my idea would be to bring back the knock-out system that we had in place for the first three editions, in 1998, 2000 and 2002 respectively. I really think this could be the ultimate boost needed to spice up ODI cricket.

Surely, instead of scrapping the Champions Trophy or holding a World T20 on four-year basis, the ICC should pay more attention to the meaning bilateral cricket series that takes place throughout the year. An ICC tournament each year is something that I look forward to each year and is the primary reason behind cricket still gathering the interest of viewers like myself. I actually feel sad that for the first time in a decade that we won´t be having any the next year.

This curremt format for the CT is fine IMO.

The ODI WC should consist of 14 teams like the last tournament. There may be some one sided matches, but it's necessary for the growth of the game.

The T20 WC ahould have 18-20 teams, without the qualifier rubbish.

The Champions Trophy has the absolute perfect format, and the last 2 editions held in England have been brilliant.

The only reason its being question is because of the WC change. Don't fix what isn't broken (CT), and instead fix the damn WC which has had a different format for nearly every edition of its existence.

What do you think should be the format of the ODI World Cup?

1992 world cup had the best format. 2019 world cup will be more competitive and each team will play against each other.

CT should be a knock out tournament. There should be something unique about it otherwise it will be nothing more than just a shorter version of the WC and could will be discarded.

Must become a knock out tournament for it's own survival.

I don't think it should become knockout. Teams only play three games before the semi finals already. If it became knockout, no chance for teams to build momentum and would heavily favour the teams more experienced to the conditions as there's little time to adapt. A big ODI tournament every two years is good, ODI tournament are more exciting than bilaterals, and also gives more of a focus on what teams want to gain from the bilaterals, 4 years is too far into the future.

I think the best thing to do is to change the world T20 tournaments. Make them knockouts. Brings more excitement to the format, gives weaker teams like Afghanistan, Ireland a shot and making it through to the latter stages, as all they have to win is game by game.

I would hold champions Trophy every four years, ODI world cup every four years, T20 every 2 years. Thus there's a tournament of some form every year. Tournaments are just generally more exciting, and they promote cricket and smaller cricketing countries more. Of course the ODI world cup will be the big prize at the end of the 4 year cycle, and the T20 cups will act more as practice for the ODI cups.

The 2007 format was perfect I thought. India/Pak getting knocked out would have been celebrated in most other sports.

But ICC. India knocked out early? Ridiculous. We need to get paid!

It is fine this way. Everyone deserves a second chance to progress to the semi's.

The Knockout Cup format was ridiculous. Current format is absolutely perfect. Problem is that ICC cares less about the growth of the game now and more about making money. WC had the perfect format aswell in the 2011 and 2015 editions. Had just enough for the smaller teams and ensured bigger teams wouldn't get eliminated after losing one or two games like 2007.

Yea eagerly eagerly waiting for the 2019 wc and its format. Almost been checking everyday for past many weeks for the schedule. I think this will be the best world cup to date. Hopefully Pakistan keeps on improving and churn out oldies by then. Just weather doesn't spoil sport and the organizers keep reserve days for matches to complete

The knockout method was totally unfair as in cricket bad days can happen and one bad day and if that is the first match, puts your team out of the tournament heading back home. Which sounds pretty depressing for the fans. I would go further and love to see teams play twice each other and it doesn't bother me if the tournament goes on for more than a month. Ofcourse two matches can be staged on a same day. I would still watch every match my team plays. Maybe as a Pakistani fan only this option sounds good as we don't play a lot.

I'd like to see something like this to differentiate it from the WC, otherwise you get a small WC which means a lot less.

Would be too much of a disaster for the ICC if India lost their first game
This is why cricket struggles, all decisions are made with money, ratings and India in mind.

But that's what happens when the sport relies on one country for all of the sports revenue.

CT is obviously the least important ICC tournament in my opinion. It was fine when world cup used to be a world cup of 16 teams now the world cup only has 2 teams more than the Champions trophy.

To make CT relevant ICC should alter other icc tournaments.

I like the idea of having one group and teams playing each other twice with the top 4 teams making it through to the SFs.

Kind of like the Super 8 stage in the 2007 WC.

8 teams in Champions trophy with qualifiers for last 2 spots, 14 or 16 teams in ODI WC should be there. That will make all tournaments relevant and the top Associates will also get a chance too

16 teams for the CWC. 4x4 groups and then super 8s of two groups for the semis instead of quarters. Will make more matches and tickets and longer the CWC. 99 CWC FORMAT was good though. Should bring back those tri and quad series back

8 teams for the ct is fine and the current format is also good. The drawbacks of knock outs are any lucky side on their day will progress and a good team having a bad day at office can't regroup like what pak did and Ind lost on their bad and unlucky day (no-ball jasprit)

a world cup should not have more than 10 teams for an odi. so the icc has got that bang on right.

then comes the case of champions trophy - if the world cup has 10 teams, it doesn't make sense to have it as well.

make cricket global through t20 championship. don't call it the world cup maybe, give it another name. sharp small tournament with two matches a day for 16 teams ending withing two weeks every two year.

i genuinely feel that the champions trophy is redundant and icc can do without it.

the t20 world cup every two years and odi world cup every four years is a perfect way to go.

CT makes no money and will be a huge failure every time India-Pakistan don't play one another or India don't make it into the finals stage.

I think it should be held every 8 years to make it rarity such as the World Cup.
