The band [Clarkson, Hammond and May] are back together!

For those who have Amazon prime, you'd have most likely watched the first episode which aired. What were your thoughts?

Was it better then Top Gear? :yk :yk2 :yk3

The grand tour retained a familiar format but was different with the quality being of a higher level, the production was incredible and the $$$$ the producers pumped into the show really showed.

Really looking forward to it, the trio are at best when on tours. The present Top Gear from BBC isn't worth while at all.

You got to follow Jeremy on twitter he is hilarious.

It's just Top Gear rebranded..same concept. But the production is exceptional. Each episode cost over £1m to make apparently. Shame it is on a paid service though.

If you're a student you get Amazon Prime free for 6 months, otherwise it's about 6 quid if you choose to sign for the amazon original video's per month but it's probably worth getting the prime membership to get all the benefits of prime such as next day delivery and special offers etc if you regularly get stuff from Amazon. There are some offers going now to get Amazon Prime for a year

Similar format but content is not limited and exceptional production values, the cars are going to be better, the explosions will be better, the tracks will be better and the narrative in general; so from that perspective it's on another planet to top gear

Watched the first episode yesterday and it lived up to the hype. Really looking forward to the rest of the season.

I hope it is available on other platforms as well and not just Amazon Prime.

Top gear was always the kind of show which I would watch if it was on tv when I had it on but certainly not one I streamed or binge watch like other shows. This is for me atleast

So I don't know how this would work on Amazon prime type service

What did you make of the second? I felt it the first 1/4 and last 1/4 were excellent, in between I disliked the whole shtick where they had pretended to be soldiers. There needs to be more focus on cars but am guessing we'll get a lot of this for the remainder of the season, the car donuts in south africa scene was great though. There was more emphasis on the spectacle in this particular episode.

Same here, it's great to follow episodically and you get people saying that the show is basically top gear on steroids essentially but watching the second episode I feel there will a lot more focus on the spectacle; perhaps they feel it;s necessary given that the platform has changed so folk like yourself do decide to binge watch.

Its out?? I havent watched it yet. Will watch today.

Seen both episodes so far, absolutely brilliant, only thing i would knock the forced inclusion of the fat american nascar driver for the laps, he wasn't remotely funny on both episodes.

One thing is for sure, they all look very frail, like they have aged about 10 years since they left topgear, not sure how how many seasons they can carry on.

Agreed, don't like the american. Other thing which was awful was the whole military shtick until they momentarily reviewed the Audi during the high speed chase but it didn't save that segment in particular. The cars doing donuts was great to see visually but am not sure what the point of that was while may watched aimlessly just like us

I felt that under the BBC they had to keep it much more car related, simply because that was what the show was originally intended to be. But with each passing season(2008 onwards) it became more into spectacle . But the viewership soared too .Even the guys talked about it during one of that last few seasons. Now that they have been given free reign on Amazon, they'll do even more of that I guess. With enough guest appearances by cars to keep it a Car show.. I love it though .. :108:

The 3rd episode was a HUGE improvement over the 2nd in terms of content and was a lot more focused on the cars, really enjoyed it

Yep. That's more of the show I loved. The cross country trips and challenges are the best part of the show rather than the mindless spectacle set-pieces.

Most of the 2nd episode was crap. The first episode was good haven't seen the third but it feels like a new season of Top Gear not much difference. On the other hand topgear was good so no need to fix something that's not broken.

But you still need the right personnel to make it work. BBC kept the same formula with the new hosts and the show bombed. It proves that the camaraderie of Clarkson-Hammond-May is really the soul of the show.

Over hyped.

Over hyped maybe. But TopGear was the most watched factual TV program in the world during it's run. And the failure of other TV-Car shows to even come near its level of success , shows that they were doing something really well..

SandyB my favourite episode thus far has been the special on the 24 Hours of Le Mans rivalry between Ford and Ferrari, which gave birth to the Ford GT40 and the Ferrari P3. Despite the filler content here and there it's a top end show which does justice to car enthusiasts, Beach Buggy Part 1 I enjoyed the sight of the desert up close was a sight to behold although Part 2 I've found a bit dull having watched the first 20 minutes.

What did you make of the BMW M2, do you agree with Clarkson that it's arguably the best M car or BMW ever made? he said one of those can't remember. But man I do love the M2, it looks stunning and drives beautifully whilst matching the performance of competitors:

It costs about £44K :( Red Devil TalhaSyed going to be stuck in the mid card for a while before I can save up to get one of those, what do you guys make of the M2

Still enjoying the show, however unlike the top gear days, no way can i watch it anymore with my parents or kids around me , they have gone a little too adult with some of the antics, some parts of the last Namibia episode were just not required, was not funny or entertaining.

shaz619 Sorry buddy. I have never been a fan of BMW's. Hate the "Perfect Driver's car" stuff BMW oversells from time to time.. So never tried to follow BMW's models.
My favorite German sports Marque is Porsche .. Best sports cars brand EVER! The make the real drivers cars. I do dislike Clarkson's hate for 911's . But he always comes out of his 911 drives appreciating the cars.
Most of the pompous snobs go for BMW's in my state .. Especially the 3 & 5 series. That's more reason to dislike them. I've always been a Mercedes guy , when it come to sedans. The 911 turbo & S class are my dream cars.

Coming to the show..
"24 Hours of Le Mans rivalry" was my favourite bit as well. That's what I used to love about the show. But sadly they seem too much into the flashy stuff instead of proper car stuff..Have to catch the Beach Buggy episodes.

Me to! am a huge fan of Porche, especially the 911 Turbo which is my all time favourite sports car (I believe this is the 1986 model):

I've had a soft spot for BMW's they've always enjoyed a lot of hype in the UK and growing up with quiet a bit of exposure to the E30, the M2 looks great and performs well I tend to fantasise over such vehicles more then the Porche these days because I'd never be able to afford them :))

I think they include a fair amount of the flashy filler for the casual fanbase, plus being on an online platform it may have been something on their minds when it comes to the content but it remains the best car show out there at the moment

My obsession with porsche started when I played Need For Speed : Porsche Unleashed in 2001 as a kid.. That was/is my favourite racing video game to date..

Season one was great, just finished watching episode 1 of season 2; I had no idea Hammond was involved in another horrific accident and at the end of the episode they actually covered the moments before it happened and the aftermath, was shaken by it all this guy seriously has a death wish. It was the Rima concept one (first ever electric super car) which he lost control of after passing the finishing line went, freakishly quick. These blokes are a bit old now for this lol super cars anyway, as much as I enjoy their shtick.

The Grand Tour season 2: Fans left ‘shaken’ as Richard Hammond’s 'brutal' car crash airs

At the end of the premiere, the full extent of the 47-year-old’s terrifying accident was shown as he crashed a £2million supercar at 120mph in Switzerland.

Before driving the vehicle, Richard said to the camera: “Oh, I’m quite nervous. I’m suddenly nervous.”

Footage captured the heart-stopping sound of the vehicle ploughing into a barrier and showed the car engulfed in flames.

Miraculously, the petrolhead cheated death and only fractured his knee in the horror crash but was left wheelchair bound following an operation.

After watching the chilling scene, viewers flocked to Twitter with many left completely stunned that Richard somehow survived the crash.

One fan wrote: “Ahh it's good to see the lads back!...Hammond's nine lives must be out now #TheGrandTour.”

While another fan struggled to watch as they commented: “Bro why was I shaking at Hammonds crash even tho I knew he was alright #TheGrandTour.”

Episode 2 Summary:
We are in New York to find the fastest way from the Big Apple to Niagara Falls in a race featuring Jeremy in the new Ford GT versus James May on public transportation, dragging an injured Richard Hammond. Also, Jeremy tests the Mercedes-AMG GT R at the Eboladrome, cricketer Kevin Pietersen goes against baseball's Brian Wilson in Celebrity Face Off, and The American test driver is replaced.

I had given up on the Grand Tour by the last couple of episoeds in the launch season.

But this year, they have cut the flab and pretty much gone back the the OG top gear model, and it's paying dividends. The first 4 episodes have been fun and the new celebrity interview section is working fine. BBC holds many of the IP to some of the best bits in OLD TG , so there are limitations to how much they can try to do the "Top Gear" model here, still I'm fine with season 2.

Wish they made the test driver more interesting, atleast reveal her identity or make her do some funny bits.
shaz619 , shazzy boi , aren't these the older Electric Super cars before the Rimac ? :

Season 1 was excellent and on another level to top gear, incredible production values, breath taking scenes, superior cars and it delivered on the front aimed at hardcore car enthusiasts but was also a spectacle. This year they've cut out the filler content but the show as a package is a beast of its own, nothing quiet like it or ever will be; the best thing these 3 blokes did was leave the BBC.

What I meant was it's the fastest electric super car and also the first of it's kind on that scale with a 1 million + budget, it also innovated the torque vectoring control system as each wheel can be controlled separately by its own engine which results in exceptional handling.
