What's new

"The issue of age-fudging has been a problem for many years" : Yasir Arafat

And what if this guy wins you a World Cup in his 1st year?

Ok that's great but if he doesn't? What if there are a collection of players who are in their 30s well past their peak pretending to be in their 20s?

Wouldn't it be better to induct genuine 20-24 year olds who can gel and play together for 10 years? Rather than finding a gun player who's shelf life is 2 years and the rest of the time of hoping he regains his former glory for the rest of his career? This has happened many times over the last 20 years.

We should look to bring in players at 20, no older to compensate for their age fudging. That could be a reasonable solution. So a 20 year old would be 24 which is okay. Bringing in a 24 year old fudge age, real age 29-30 is no go.

Is Naseem Shah really 20?
Is Shaheen Shah Afridi really 22?
Is Mohammad Hasnain really 22?
Is Shahnawaz Dahani really 24?
Is Mohammad Wasim jr really 21?

The above are just example of blatant age-fudging.

This is a widespread and embarrassing problem in Pakistan cricket.

Ramiz Raja would have become a hero had he set up a system to catch the age fudgers. Sadly he was there just to please himself

Kohli looks an age fudger a very serious one the way he declined post 30 you only see such declines if there are no injuries to 35-37 yr old blokes.

If we look at Pakistan cricket, we haven't had a single pace bowler who has debuted since 1990 take 200 wickets in test match cricket. It's crazy that we've been waiting for well over 30 years for someone to reach a milestone that is anything special.

Part of the reason for that is due to age fudging so when they turn "30" they look almost finished because their true age is well above this.

gazza619 had the right idea when he said just add 5 years for any Pakistan player as a rule of thumb. As an average this sounds about right. Some players have done far worse (for example Ifti) and some have done far less.

We also don't play many tests. We lost two 200 wicket plus bowlers (asif amir). We played in UAE. And look at our pitches at home. Our whole attack won't be able to take 200 wickets

Sorry but that's not a valid excuse for failing to produce a pacer with 200+ wickets out of all of the players who made their first test appearance for Pakistan from 1990 onwards.

That's over 3 decades!

Kohli has played a huge amount of cricket across formats and in the IPL. Also he has a recurring back injury.

The amount of FC cricket 70-90 generation played the modern day players can’t even think the likes of VIv, Imran, Hadlee Akram etc we’re playing 6 days a week in England from Apr till Sept and then int cricket in addition to that every cricket tour included 3-4 tour games in addition to tests and odi games . The odi calander was jam packed with multi nation events. The intensity on those Odis is unthinkable compared to modern jamodis .

It’s a myth modern player is playing more post Kerry Packer players have been playing non stop irrespective of eras

Raza Al Mustafa, is a faily unknown wicketkeeper batsman with only 3 List A games; he played really well today in the National T20 game for Rawalpindi. But apparently he's 19...

Azhar Ali Clashes with Tanveer Ahmed on Social Media Over Son's Age Controversy

Former Pakistan cricket team captain Azhar Ali recently found himself embroiled in a heated social media dispute with fast bowler Tanveer Ahmed. The contention centered around the age of Azhar Ali's son, which was inaccurately listed on the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) official website, leading to public accusations by Tanveer. Azhar Ali responded to the allegations, marking the beginning of a less logical but more emotional exchange between the two cricketers.

The dispute ignited when Tanveer Ahmed publicly questioned the age of Azhar Ali's son, citing a discrepancy on the PCB's official site where the son's age had mysteriously 'reduced' by two years. Azhar countered Tanveer's claims by reminiscing about past Test tours during the 2010s when Tanveer had met his son, thus questioning the basis of Tanveer's skepticism. Amidst the digital back-and-forth, Azhar extended wishes of good health to Tanveer and his family, attempting to diffuse the tension with a personal touch.

The debate took a decisive turn when a local journalist intervened, posting the official image of Azhar Ali's son's passport on social media. This crucial piece of evidence confirmed the son's birth year as 2008, not 2006, thereby substantiating Azhar Ali's claims. It was revealed that the incorrect information was mistakenly uploaded by the PCB, which, upon Azhar's request, promptly rectified the error. This development brought a new level of scrutiny to the PCB's handling of personal records and data accuracy.

If naqvi can tackle the age-fudging issue in Pakistan cricket during his tenure, I would consider it a significant success. He needs to put an end to twenty-year-olds debuting as schoolboys and subsequently joining the national team when they're nearing their 40s! Instead of performing at their peak, our fast bowlers are struggling with fitness and lacking pace.

The most crucial change Naqvi should implement is to eliminate this disease. While it may not produce immediate results or generate photo opportunities, addressing this problem will have lasting benefits for the future of Pakistan cricket.

I remember once Boycott said when he was told Shahid Afridi was 16.."If he's 16 then I am 17"..

Brilliant player. I love shami. One of the greats in odi and a top player in test cricket currently

His wife preciouslt accused him of age fraud. This seems to still be pervasive amongst the desi community.

India have taken plenty of steps to counter such issues with regards to age fraud but obviously there are still loop holes which has allowed this serious crime to fester.

Recent photos show proof that shami is actually 41

What is crazy is how incredibly good he is at 41 lol.

But this is blatant cheating and must not be condoned.

Here is shami's proof of age card.

This is shocking.

What is bound to happen now? I dont want to lose a player of shami's quality.

Don't think he participated in any age group games. He was the one guy who everyone unanimously agreed that he was overaged. I cannot believe how he could sustain 140k right throug the day in the south african test match.

Insane how good he is at 40 lmao. Imagine peak.

doesnt look like him tbh, and it wouldnt make sense that he made his fc debut at 28, unless he was living a completely diff life. think hes pbly fudged 3 or 4 years, not more.

Even if it's 3 4 years he is 37 38. That is mighty impressive of him to be this good.

According to reports, a resurfaced five-year-old video from Lahore Qalandars' official Facebook page has sparked questions about Naeem's eligibility as an emerging player. In the video, a then 21-year-old Naeem clearly states he had already represented FATA at the U19 level. Furthermore, records confirm that he played the National T20 for FATA in 2023, raising eyebrows over how he met the criteria for the "emerging" category in the PSL X.

Pakistan’s most honest and straightforward former cricketer, Rashid Latif, has raised serious concerns over how Naeem was allowed to feature as an emerging player. Latif questioned the selection process and called for transparency. Given the growing scrutiny, many believe that Lahore Qalandars should issue an official statement to clarify Naeem’s eligibility and address the controversy.
