The most memorable cricket commentary quote?

“These are not hits, these are scud missiles”

The commentator was Ravi Shastri , anyone else remember who was batting that sunny day? :)

Reminds me of one my favorite quote by Bumble ...

"Oh' Boom Boom,,,, BOOOOM BOOOM"

Tony Greig had the best calls in cricket commentary of all time. The Jim Ross of cricket commentary.

Bonus: If anyone can remember what matches these are from

"The little man has hit the big fella for six. He's half his size and he's smashed him down the ground"
"Up go the arms of Umpire Shephard. Sexy shot is the call from the outfield" "Shahid Afridi has decided that the man in your picture is cannon fodder"
"he'll still be lying in his bed 70 years of age still remembering this"
"Gilchrist shakes hands with Boucher, Ntinis on a high."
"There's only Murali, Zoysa, Vaas to go and you can't really count Murali. This is unbelievable. Pakistan just dont give in"
"He is getting a standing ovation, There are Indians, There are Arabs, There are SriLankans and There are Englishman."

Geoffrey Boycott Quotes:
'even my mother in law could have hit that for 6'
'lolipop bowling', Peter Martin is a humpty dumpty bowler, that's humpty dumpy bowling'
'He (Salim Malik) is bowling full tosses of rubbish'

Roasting Gambhir-"roobish".

Tony Greig's call of Sachin's desert storm. Haven't been matched since in terms of excitement & pure joy.

Richie Benaud's call on 05 ashes 2nd test. Jones! Bowden!.....

Bill Lawry's call on 99 semi final.

Mark Nicholas's call on Gilchrist getting his ton in 07 WC final.

Geoffrey Boycott's hilarious call when Vaughn was bowled by Mcgrath off a no ball. No Ball, bad luck, bad luck you Aussies. Couldn't have happened to a nicer people :)) :))

Ian Bishop-Remember the name.

Ian Smith-Superman call, 15 WC semifinal. 19 semi & final. True heir of Tony greig.

Wasim Akram after we beat South Africa in the World T20 Semi final 2009:

"And Pakistan have qualified for the World ICC T20, what a fairytale'

LOL

qualified for the world t20? Nice one Wasim :facepalm

Underarm bowl reaction -

As the ball was being bowled, Ian Chappell (elder brother of Greg and Trevor, and a former Australian captain), who was commentating on the match, was heard to call out "No, Greg, no, you can't do that"

Commentating for Channel 9 at the time, former Australian captain Richie Benaud described the act as "disgraceful" and said it was "one of the worst things I have ever seen done on a cricket field".

Its not a quote but a conversation between Dravid, Nasser and Warne during WC 2015.

Nasser Hussain (on India’s stellar performance so far in the tournament): They’re peaking too early, aren’t they? Are you worried Rahul that your boys are peaking too early?

Rahul Dravid had the perfect response, referring to England’s performance: Nasser, it’s better to peak early than to not peak at all! You have to peak early to make to the quarter finals actually. That’s bit of the rules of the tournament.

Shane Warne, the third commentator, chipped in: I don’t think you were expecting that answer, were you Nasser?

Nasser Hussain: Not from Rahul, from you yes, but not from the nicest man in cricket!

Rahul Dravid: I was sledged all along in the last commentary session about my 2007 stint. I was inching to give it back to someone! Sorry, Nasser!

Rahul owned Nasser at that moment. Loved it.

Harsha Bhogle’s commentary when Afridi was batting against Bangladesh in the 2014 Asia Cup was really good

I remember the 1992 world cup semi final when Tony Greig said 'Today is the Kiwis versus the P***s (not in a malicious way btw), and tomorrow its Lions versus the Sprinboks'. This I remember because he said the P**i word but not maliciously.

Pak v Eng WC Final 92:

"Once again for the Pakistanis, Inzamam is the man"!

"Ramiz is underneath it, Pakistan win the World Cup!"

"He is gonna do a lap of honour all by himself"...David Gower after Aaqib Javed catches Gooch I think?

Ramiz Raja:

“Weise does not have a visa to catch that”

One of the great quotes in History

Basically the entire 2 hours montage of Tony Greig calling Tendulkar's twin desert storms.

Greatest piece of live cricket commentary ever.

Waqar Younis on Qasim: Where was this kid hiding, i know, he was in the u19 world cup.

In the last over, Waqas Maqsood took a wicket on third ball, than 4th ball was dot and than a wide and than wicket on 5th ball. On the 6th ball waqar says, what if Waqas Maqsood takes hattrick, would be a great honor winning the match and taking a hattrick..

There was no hattrick chance ever.

Where did the waqar younis commentary thread go

"I only commentate on Cricket". Michael Holding on the IPL. This is exactly what i have no interest in any domestic T20 competitions be it the IPL or PSL.

Imad Wasim was hitting boundaries for fun and Waqar Younis said that he was struggling to hit the ball properly. Nick Knight was like "what?!" in his head:))). Lest it should've sounded like a disagreement, Knight first waited a while and then praised Imad for his blistering batting.

Also, I heard what he said about Qasim. :))

This was a gem from Sidhuism.
Statistics are like Bikinis. What they show is very beautiful but, what they hide is vey important.

July 4th, 2022
Amidst a very noisy Indian crowd on day fourth of England vs India 5th test.

"Those cheers will turn to tears for Indian supporters"- Mike Atherton.

Waqar commentating during today's match:

"When you take a risk, there is a risk involved" :yk

Wasim Akram:

“That’s a big shot! Fine leg is in the Aaaaaair!!

Waqar Younis' commentary are just like his banana swing yorkers. As soon as the words come out, the trajectory and target are totally different by the time he completes his sentence.

I love it!

Waqar commentating during today's match:

You guys making fun of Waqar Younis` commentary without me? Without me? The leader of the gang?! How unfair!

"Nawaz has been batting lower down the order for Pakistan, but for his domestic team, he bats higher up the air."

Probably wanting to say "Higher up the order." :))
