It's been almost 10 years since these two have been our permanent features especially in tests. But despite all this experience they have been failing on countless occasions in the last 3 years. Azhar is so bad that he averages under 30 in last 3 years and Shafiq plays very rare one good innings and has been inconsistent like his whole career.

Question is why no one questions their place in the side? Is it a Pakistani thing that seniors have automatic selection despite failures after failures? If the experience cannot come to rescue on tough tours like this then what exactly is their point? I don't think our youngsters or other batsme will struggle on Pakistani or UAE pitches?

I hope for SL series these so called seniors are rested and we try other options. But it seems very unlikely as these two have booked their test places until they turn 40.

No body questioned because we have no replacement. We did not do our home work. We did not prepare any batsman after YK and Misbah left. Do you really think they will rest these seniors after this threshing?

so what's the point of seniors with 10 years experience if you get thrashed by SA and Aus in their backyard and even SL whitewashes you on your home. Aus also drew on UAE trip. Why are we so afraid of changing players when results have not been in our favour. What could be worse?

now you will see all the young kids will be thrown out and test failure will come back..like of rahat, shoail khan, irfan who knows...this is how our is working for the past some times.

Forget about batting performance for a moment: I get why teams like having experienced players (composure, leadership, resilience, etc) but our current group of vets, namely Azhar and Asad don't really provide any of that. Just compare them to Younis and Misbah, and even Inzamam before them, and you'll get an idea of how lacking Azhar and Asad are.

There really aren't like traditional 'seniors' - they bring elevate the team in any way. Now factor in their awful performances and they look even worse.

There really is no case for Asad and Azhar to continue playing for Pakistan. At this point, Kamran Akmal and Fawad Alam would bring more to the table

I will keep Asad Shafiq for now as he can still deliver a few innings here and there which passes the eye test but Azhar Ali has to go now

Passing the eye test is not good enough as this stage of his career.

But the team loses even if he scores a 100 in second innings. What a remarkable player exists in our side no other example around the world who performs once in 4 innings, reaches his milestone and gets out with the team losing. And the selectors select him for encouraging culture of selfishness playing for himself, instead of the team.

Exactly!!! Unfortunately we people are too optimistic rather than PCB. PCB doesn't give a damn about our improvement.

Now picture this, if a bold decision was taken and instead of Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq a couple of young batsmen were sent to this tour and had scored Exactly the same number of runs in each innings as these two - the whole country including media, former players and fans on PakPassion would have said we needed the ‘experience’ of Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq for a tour in Australia ? Hilarious isn’t it.
:)

Time to give some new middle order players a run in SL series, all this nonsense we dont have replacments, until we give other players ago we will never know.

Both Asad and Azhar have been really poor in past three years, whats the justification of keep selecting non-performers for soo long ?

I am sure Younis Khan is still better option than these two.

Misbah will bring back Shehzad, Akmals, Hafeez and even Malik lol

Shafiq scored two 50s on this tour in 4 innings . Whether we like it or not he’s going nowhere.

Would not make sense to drop a batsman on the basis of that .

Can't believe Asad Shafiq has never been dropped in his career. They should have invested in this guy :ua instead. Atleast he's not a dud against pace
