We have had loss after loss in this series, yet the Pakistan Head Coach is missing from all press interaction.

Azhar Mahmood, Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan and Grant Flower have all spoken but the man charged with making sure the right strategies are in place is conspicuously missing and not able to come up and explain the thought processes behind Pakistan's current situation.

Wonder what the reason is?

The importance of a senior person stepping in and taking the heat of a beleaguered captain is important.

He spoke just once on this tour so he needs to step up

Agreed. He sings when we're winning so he needs to speak about this humiliation we have received.

We always do badly in oceania.

Historically we have done ok in new Zealand. these conditions in new Zealand are tailor made for good swing bowlers, but swing with discipline. If our bowlers can’t take wickets here they need to take a break seriously.

In the past it was always the captain facing the heat.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but during Misbah's time, when team wasn't doing well he use to come up, not the coaches.

Mickey probably just doesn't want to lie to the press about how well things are. But yea either Sarfraz or Mickey should have been there.

NZ actually use to be the place we would win a few matches. I remember how we beat them under Misbah in 2012 or 2013. It was probably a weaker NZ side but we used to at the least dominate there in phases if not win the match.

I don’t think he wants to come out and say what everyone knows.

My opinion will be, coming out directly will be a courageous step, but it will put more focus on him as a failed coach which isn't good for a resume.

And Pakistan players, administrators dig a hole for themselves. So it's better to sit out and let them self destroy in the public. And he himself gets save from unwanted focus.

The greatest bit of magic that gets pulled off in Pakistan is that selectors face no scrutiny in the press for their output only coach and captain.
I would argue selectors have done more damage to Pakistan cricket than coach or captain

will there be a guy in the team who could say, "i am not happy with the team that was selected."?

it seems unprofessional. But probably, in the system, where selectors doesn't seem to be answerable, a step like this may provoke a reaction.

Maybe directives from the PCB to him to avoid giving press conferences and interviews and creating unnecessary controversy.

This is about the self belief of the individual who is captain as well. Does he believe that by dropping or not playing senior players he can by his own performance and by his ability to inspire lead the team to better results? I don’t want to harp on Imran Khan, but that was part of his appeal. He would take tough decisions and by dint of his effort justify his decisions.
The question for Sarfaraz is whether he has the confidence in his abilities as batsman and captain to drop seniors against tough teams and still win or fight to win?

Best coach in our history, ladies and gentleman.

Coach can’t play for players.
Coach can’t make a Ferrari out of a Suzuki
Coach can’t drop senior players because selectors did not do the right thing and want to leave tough decisions on coach and captain

Arthur is a very blunt individual, I'm sure he is fuming with the cowardice the seniors are showing and will wield the axe once this debacle is over.

He and Inzamam made a huge mistake in "sticking with a winning formula" after CT and beating up on a weak Sri Lanka team in UAE when it papered over the cracks. Azhar didn't suddenly become a dynamic ODI opener, Malik a reliable middle order bat outside Asia, or Hafeez a powerful late order hitter.

They have credit in the bank after the CT so they need to use it and boot all three of them out.

Coach can drop Azhar, Hafeez and Malik and give a try to the guys in the squad such as Haris, Imam and Yamin. They can't do any worse than those three...... but no coach can't turn Suzuki into Ferrari.

Remind me what our previous two results in NZ were under the Commentary Box King Waqar.

So I was told Mickey Arthur will show us how bad Vicki was.... we are paying him so much to just be as bad as Waqar? Mashallah

We will see how good of a coach Mickey Arthur is at the end of the series.

Hope he shows no mercy.

When the selection committee feels these three deserve to be played why hang it on the coach?
Why give Imam (another 70 strike rate plodder) and one injury prone and an all rounder to the squad. My personal view is that he will use these performances to boot out these guys. Unfortunately for inzi will have another round of rubbish returnees to take their place : Akmal brothers, salmon Butt, shaan, Umar Amin

The way some people blame coaches on here. They'd lose their mind and punch statues of Ronald McDonald if their Big Mac was cold.

Arthur needs to show a ruthless side and get rid of Azhar and Hafeez. He can't just sit back. I think if he showed some frustration at Inzi we could see some change.

Coach should take responsibility to an extent. Unlike Football in Cricket the coach can not influence what is happening on the field of play. He can't shout instructions or make substitutes. Most Pak players won't understand what he is saying anyway:asif

In soccer, the synonymous position in Manager (of the team), under whom normally 5 types of people work (reports to him)

1. Specialist coaches - like GK coach, defensive coordinator, conditioning coach, trainer ...
2. Manager of A team, U23, U19 & U16 teams
3. Technical directors of coaching academy - be at national or club level
4. Managers' office staff - director football for transfer negotiations, media manager, doctors & physio
5. Scouts & analysts (people who analyse opponents & give him feed back on possible formation, starting XI & bench, tactics ....

Give just No. 5 to Mickey - that's make Ul Haq report to him (it's coming in cricket - Hathura has forced it at SLCB, next BCB coach'll enforce this), you'll see how PAK team's average age comes down to 23-25 ....... performance has to change after that.

So you are saying that Mickey miyan should be doing more?

No, he'll be doing his job - he is a professional. What I am saying few people holding too big positions for their grasp should be harnessed under a pro. Or other way, few people'll be made accountable for their act and part of their payment should be made a function of the performance (including Mickey himself).

I am not really gettin' your point!:13:

Simple - he is held responsible/accountable for KPIs, that he doesn't own or doesn't have much control/influence. He tried it hard way at the start - sent Irfaaaan back, dropped MoHa, forced Azhar to open, reassessed Umar's fitness, made fitness test compulsory, changed ODI Captain ..... but he can't & shouldn't take it on his shoulders every time to open the worm can or clean garbage bin.

He has shown what he can do - now, he has got a job security till WC; why should he disturb his peace by questioning say the T20 squad sent against Kiwis?

Inzamam is the biggest culprit!!!!! This corrupt guy select useless players like his nephew, Hafeez and Azhar. Malik needs to go as well.
