The state of Bangladesh cricket

I think people are being too harsh on BD. Executioner is right, the genetics and culture is not conductive to sports. Even the eastern side of India closer to bd have produced 0 international players. Can't really blame them for being minnows if it's out of their control.

Cricket needs Bangladesh to be successful.

Its a huge market with ultra passionate fans.

I hope the Tigers bounce back.

This may seem like some left field suggestions but we should somehow try to incorporate some sort of Bangla Pak collaboration at FC or domestic T20 level.

I like the idea.

I think BD can benefit a lot if they can participate in domestic tournaments of some of the top teams.

BD also need more A team tours. I don't see too many such tours anymore (used to be a regular thing).

pak have invited bang u-19, i think there should be alternate year A tours home and away. my personal favourite would be an annual fc reserve team league, maybe 4 or 5 teams, leading to a final.

Do you think Ban Cricket would be better off once Papon leaves?

Well temporarily yes.

Nazmul Hassan papon has been board member for a while and though he has tried to improve a few things which includes maintaining good relationships with other boards, he has not been able to hold his directors accountable.

Thing is, the board president should be changed time to time as a new board president will try to introduce fresh ideas while also being keen to do good work like a politician does when they get a new appointment.

Yes back in the first half of 2010s we would have a lot of A team tours which meant we had a good backup of cricketers. Sure it is not national level but playing for the A team and touring a foreign land playing vs a distinct group of players was great.

We had only two A- team series in the last 6 years before 2022. This year we toured WI and now A team is playing against tamil nadu

Yup.

This is what happens you have incompetent people (with no real cricket backgrounds) running the show.

Malnourished T20 team.

Surely they can bring in a strength and conditioning coach. They need to eat more lamb, beef and chicken.
It's not food, that part of the world including Indian states are generally short and lean. Could be a racial thing but fitness and professional is in their hands

He is very critical of everyone in the management and the team in the media. Have always found this to be a very odd thing.

Think he's been BCB president for something like 7 8 years if I am correct.

People need to criticise specifically. Don’t generalise. Bangladesh is fine at ODI’s they understand that format well. So stop bashing them in general. Yes they still suck at test but they did win test in NZ recently. HOWEVER BD’s mentality in T20 format is ultra unprofessional and backward. Their players have zero common sende and imagination in t20s.

• Need to start first by getting rid of that President and appoint Mashrafe Mortaza as bcb president or someone knowledgeable ex cricketer like their first test captain Aminul Islam. The current president has wasted more than a decade doing little, doing about 20% from a 100. This dude is cancer to Bangladesh cricket growth.

• Then start grassroots properly. Age levels. District, divisional level cricket. Stadiums in all divisional capital upto international standard with facilities available for the divisional stadiums being the HQ for people of that region. And decentralise cricket.

BCB claims they have 900 crore or whatever it is. But they did nothing to improve stadiums, only Sylhet looks alright. Mirpur still the same as 2011, ctg stadium hasn’t got shade/roof and one tier one end. Papon geezer easily happy taking his pay cheque each month satisfied sitting in his comfortable office in Dhaka.

Tamim Iqbal has to be brought back for t20s. He is still BD’s best opener. Sabbir Rahman and Saifuddin 6 and 7 in the batting. Saifuddin needs to become better at batting a get few overs in maybe on a good day give him the 3rd and even 4th. 3 frontline seamers is the way to go with Saifuddin being the 4th seamer or can bat. Nuruls, Mossadekk are not it nor is Yasir Ali who isn’t international standard, he isn’t a top 4 batsmen nor finisher in t20s, maybe give him few chances in ODI’s before you discard him until he improves his game. Even by BD standards the BD players who debuted in the 2010s made some sort of good impact or even man of match stuffs in their first 3-5 internationals matches, albeit at home mostly.

Sabbir Rahman hasnt done jack too. But Sabbir has something about him, he has to strokes and intent. He has been mismanaged by BD. Sending him opening wad a wrong idea to begin with. One of the ex coach Haturusingha played him at 3 for while in ODI’s which Sabbir lacks the technique and patience.

Mehedi Hasan Miraz or Mahedi Hasan could come in instead of Saifuddin at 7 if the wicket is slow spin friendly. Mosadekk is bits and pieces player who does well against Zimbabwe and associates that too once a while. Enough of him for now, isn’t a T20 suited player.

Shanto will get his flowers for doing well against Zimbabwe. And another 50 with a poor SR. But he kills the momentum, takes too many balls hence adds pressure to the team and he seems doesnt proper have any up and over-the-top shots on the offside or straight during PP or any stage, plays everything square, backfoot. He can’t utilise PP with that technique.

Soumya Sarkar has been a massive let down at T20s. Someone I had high hopes for and backed to be in the side.

Bangladesh have named their replacement for Russell Domingo for the position of the new head coach of the men's national team.

Sri Lankan Chandika Hathurusingha will return to coach the men's national team for a second spell. He previously worked as the head coach for the Tigers between 2014 and 2017.

Hathurusingha has agreed to a two-year contract with the Bangladesh Cricket Board and his tenure will begin in February. He will replace Russell Domingo at the helm, who resigned at the end of 2022.

Hathurusingha was most recently working as the assistant coach of New South Wales and his reappointment as the Bangladesh coach was widely expected following his resignation from the position.

On joining Bangladesh again, Hathurusingha said in a statement, "It’s an honour to have been given this opportunity to coach the Bangladesh national team once again.

Match highlights of Bangladesh securing their first-ever Super 12 victory in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup as they beat Netherlands by nine runs.

“I really loved the warmth of the people and the culture of Bangladesh whenever I have been there. I’m looking forward to working with the players once again and enjoy their successes."

On appointing Hathurusingha, BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury stated, "Chandika’s experience and knowledge of Bangladesh cricket will be an advantage for him and will benefit the players. He is a proven tactician and we have seen his impact on the national team during his first assignment."

Hathurusingha will hope to overturn Bangladesh's fortunes across formats. They are at the bottom of the World Test Championship table, having finished their assignments. They failed to qualify for the semis of the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia and are currently placed sixth in the ICC CWCSL table.

His first priority will be in the 50-over format, with the Cricket World Cup scheduled to take place in India this year.

askin Ahmed's preparation for Cricket World Cup 2023 has taken a hit with the fast bowler out of Bangladesh's Super League ODI series against Ireland in May.

The quick missed Bangladesh's sole Test match against Ireland with a side strain, the same injury that will sideline him for the three 50-over matches in Chelmsford from May 9.

As per media reports, left-armer Mrittunjoy Chowdhury has replaced Taskin, while spinner Taijul Islam also comes in, as a like-for-like replacement for Nasum Ahmed.

A usual sight in Bangladesh home training camps as a net bowler, Mrittunjoy's selection comes off the back of an impressive run in domestic crickets across both white-ball formats over the last two seasons. He has claimed a dozen wickets in this year's ongoing List A competition at home, matching 17 scalps in last year's competition, and 23 wickets across the last two editions of the Bangladesh Premier League.

While the series is a good chance for Bangladesh to fine tune ahead of the Cricket World Cup having already qualified via their strong Super League campaign, the matches are make-or-break for Ireland, who need to win all three encounters to keep automatic qualification for India 2023 alive.

Three victories would take Ireland to 98 points, level with South Africa, currently positioned in the last automatic qualification spot. The teams would also be level on wins, meaning Ireland also have to improve their net run rate from -0.382 to -0.076 or better to overtake the Proteas. Teams finishing in 9th to 13th at the end of Super League move to the ten-team Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe, beginning on 18 June.

Bangladesh ODI squad: Tamim Iqbal (c), Litton Das, Rony Talukdar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Yasir Ali, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Ebadot Hossain, Shoriful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury

Making his presence felt.

Aminul Islam, Bangladesh's former national skipper, has replaced Faruque Ahmed as the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), on Friday (May 30). He will be the 16th president of the board.

National Sports Council (NSC) removed Faruque as their councillor, and eventually also removed him from the post of president.

Earlier, the NSC appointed Aminul as a government-nominated councillor to the BCB, replacing Sheikh Hamim Hasan. NSC confirmed the development through a letter dated May 29.

BCB seems very interested in joining the unstable cricket board nexus of PCB, SLC and CWI

Would be interesting to see how they do in ODI and Test.

T20 was always BD's weakest format. This is the format where they lost against UAE, USA, Hong Kong etc.
