We have seen this in Misbah’s captaincy also, and now we are seeing the same during sarfraz’s captaincy, that Pakistan is playing 4 specialist bowlers and missing out the 5th one (all rounder).

I think that in the last test match against South Africa, we exhausted our main bowlers, especially the seamers (yasir hasn’t bowled much), and to cover that we asked shan to bowl (who eventually got a wicket too). This seems a lack of planning and thinking.

During Misbah’s captaincy we used to play 2 seamers and 2 spinners in the UAE, and most of the overs used to be bowled by the spinners, and that strategy was okay for UAE, but in overseas tour this strategy failed miserably (apart Eng). We were missing an all rounder who would balance the XI.

I was listening to Sarfraz’s press conference ahead of the second test match, and Pakistan are looking to go with 3 seamers and 1 spinner (Yasir Shah). They are relying too much on a leggie (they give away too many runs), in conditions where our batting always failed to score big. I would have been happier if there was a good quality left arm spinner in the squad. We are missing out Faheem Ashraf, who would provide the balance in the team and the 4th seamer’s option.

You don’t want to drop Shafiq? Don’t drop him, drop fakhar and play Faheem. My XI for tomorrow would be: imam, shan, azhar, babar, sarfraz, shafiq, faheem, amir, yasir, abbas, shaheen.

I would play babar at 4 because that is the position he deserves, and we can get benefit from him, he will provide balance and he will also have the chance to bat with batsmen, rather than the tail. On the other hand I think Shafiq must be back at 6, the position he always played during Mis-You, he is not comfortable at 4. Sarfraz must bat in the top 5, no.7 is way too back for him, he needs to come with less pressure on his shoulders, and face balls to gain confidence and form.

Obviously the seniors need to step up the game. These small mistakes or decisions, mentioned above, have been costing us matches. I hope sense prevails.
