"The victory against India in this tournament was the proudest moment of my life" : Mohammad Hafeez

Mohammad Hafeez press conference:

Positive effect of victory against India:

"Whenever you win a big game in a big tournament like this one then this really boosts the team's morale."

"I have played games against India at initial stages of many tournaments and in many instances we lost these games. I know the you face a lot of problems when you lose such games, because expectations are very high about such matches from the fans and you have the backing of the whole nation in this case"

"In the recent past when we have lost games against India then the consequences for that have not been good as it hurts at a mental level. However, as we have seen in the past, even after losing games to India we have still managed to lift ourselves up and made good comebacks in the tournaments"

"Our team needs to be praised to no end for the fact that we started this ICC T20 World Cup under difficult circumstances, but each individual in this squad responded well and with full energy and motivated and supported each other"

"In terms of this game that we won against India, I have to say that all of us including the Team management were up and ready for this game and that is why the performance was so good. For me, this was the proud moment of my life that I was part of this team that broke the jinx that India had on us in ICC tournaments"

"Overall it was an excellent performance and the whilst we had planned things well, when we executed those plans to perfection then it really boosted our morale. So if you see the body language of our team after that game - and it was also good during the game - was very special to see"

"I am hoping we will maintain this positive energy for the remainder of the tournament and be true to our goal which is to win this tournament"

Babar Azam's captaincy:

Babar Azam needs to be praised for his captaincy as he's earned it by performing well as a captain and as a player. He has been progressing as a captain for the last year & a half and he's changed the opinions of people with his performances"

His own future:

"Anyone who plays for Pakistan does so because he is expected to perform for the country and he is only in the side if he has performed well"

"I am a very emotional and sentimental human being, and such feelings increase when it comes to representing Pakistan"

"I just want to concentrate on this tournament and in every prayer that I offer, I ask The Almighty that He grant me my wish to become a part of an ICC tournament winning squad"

"My focus is on this tournament and have not thought about my future or made a decision about it because I dont want to divert my emotional energies to anything other than this tournament"

"I know that I will not be playing cricket forever but whatever cricket I am playing now, I am doing so by justifying my position through my performances. Its my aim to play my role in making sure our team is successful. When the tournament ends then I will think about whether I am going to continue my journey as a Pakistan player or not"

"My focus as of now is all about helping Pakistan win the ICC T20 World Cup"

Sharjah (United Arab Emirates) (AFP) – Veteran all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez says such is Pakistan's form at the Twenty20 World Cup they are brimming with confidence and have no preferences as to who they play in the semi-finals.

Pakistan have been unstoppable since their historic 10-wicket win over bitter rivals India at the beginning of the campaign.

The 2009 champions have gone on to beat a strong New Zealand side, Afghanistan and Namibia.

Pakistan will face the runners-up of Group 1, likely to be either Australia or South Africa who play their last group matches later on Saturday.

Hafeez -- a former captain of the Twenty20 side -- said Pakistan were ready for any opponent.

"To be honest, when it comes to a cricket match we don't think about who we want to play," said 41-year-old Hafeez on Saturday on the eve of their match with Scotland.

"Whoever comes we are ready for that as our confidence is high, we are shaping up well and we are performing well.

"But first we have a game against Scotland so we need to take them on with the same intensity and confidence. The goal is to win the Cup for the nation and we are close to that."

'Emotional sort of player'

Pakistan have won all its three T20Is against Scotland, once in the inaugural T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007 and two in Scotland in 2018.

Hafeez said there was extra satisfaction over their strong performances considering the tricky lead-up they had to the tournament.

"We played only one match out of five in the West Indies due to the weather," he said.

"Then New Zealand and England abandoned their tours so we were short on that front but the whole team and the management have done well in this tournament."

New Zealand abandoned their tour due to a security alert, minutes before the start of the first ODI in Rawalpindi in September and then England withdrew from two T20Is in October, citing players' mental and physical health problems.

Hafeez singled out the first match against India as the confidence booster -- Pakistan's first win over them in 13 World Cup matches.

"In any tournament when you win the first match, it gives you confidence so when we beat India it lifted our confidence hugely.

"I have been part of many World Cup matches against India and after all those defeats we had to bear the consequences but we always used to have strong comebacks.

"This time we won and it was great to be part of that team which beat India."

Hafeez side-stepped talks of retirement.

"I am focusing on this World Cup so after this tournament I will decide what to do," he said.

"I am a very emotional sort of player and playing for Pakistan is a great pride for me."

Need to forget that win over India and look ahead to potentially 3 matches.

It would be a shame if Pakistan didn't win this tournament now given the quality of cricket they have played so far.

Knowing how many Pakistanis think . Even if they lose in semifinals they will say it was an amazing tournament because they beat india .

This is the sort of mentality that is holding back pakistan
Forget about the win against india Its just another team They need to win the tourney

Anything less than that isnt a success for a country like pakistan

Most useless player in the squad. How can he mention that he is in the team due to his performances?

Such a pathetic attidude.

But he is though. He has been one of our best batsman in the lead up to this World Cup.

His 30 not out again Namibia was the first time he passed 30 in his last 10-12 matches for Pak.

In crucial run chases against the Kiwis and Afg he went missing like always .

Typical of Hafeez.

It was also one of the happiest moments of mine after the champions trophy final haha. I always wondered if I’d see Pakistan do it in my lifetime, and to do it so easily at the World Cup, was heartwarming.

Doesn't have much too speak off as far as his life is concerned then

Yes, ending the streak was a big deal. It would be great if Pakistan wins the World Cup, but next best thing was beating India and ending the streak.

I have a feeling, Pak is already content with what they have achieved in this tourney, it will effect their trophy winning chances.

Comprehensive victory
It was a memorable defeat, i almost knew it when the Pakistanis stood for national anthem.
Grrrrrrrrrr

But he didn't do anything in that game!

Not the case anymore, most Pakistanis want us to win the WC. Beating India and ending the streak was good, but we will have to beat better teams now to win this tournament.

But he is though. He has been one of our best batsman in the lead up to this World Cup.

Really, can you back this claim?
He is and was a player who never performed
Under pressure.

Sas to see him still being selected all the time.

Even in his younger days Hafeez was a minnow basher , against good fast bowling he was very poor. He was Styne's bunny . I will be happily surprised he does good against Australia and England.

2017 CT semi final and final

99 against the Kiwis in NZ in 2020 in a 2020

80 odd against England just this summer in a T20

Hafeez has been extremely decent since he was pushed down the order

Be prepared to be happily surprised.

Hafeez bats like Bradman on UAE pitches against the best of bowlers.
