"The way Fakhar Zaman scored in such a big match, all of Pakistan is happy with him" : Imran Khan

Imran Khan speaking on TV after the India-Pakistan Champions Trophy final:

"When Pakistan had put up such a big score, I knew they would win as bowling is their strength. Once there is scoreboard pressure, I was sure Pakistan would win."

"If India would have batted first today, I think it would be difficult for us to win as they have a long batting lineup. When you bat first, you don't have scoreboard pressure. When you bat second, you have to contend with the bowlers and the rising run-rate."

"Our strength is our bowling and we contained them after putting up the big total."

"I would like to specially congratulate Fakhar Zaman. His technique hasn't developed yet but he has an immense amount of talent. Very few players have such talent after playing such little cricket and the way he scored in such a big match, all of Pakistan is happy with him."

"Now more than the team, the bigger worry is the cricket structure. I was with Viv Richards and Ian Chappell recently and they both said Pakistan has the most talent. The problem is that we don't have a proper system in place."

"Until we don't rectify the system by having six main FC teams with all the main talented players. That competition will produce players that no one in the world will be able to beat."

"PSL should be in Pakistan, not in Dubai. Foreign players should come to Pakistan, if they aren't willing, then Pakistani players should play only. But they shouldn't go and play in Dubai."

Mickey Arthur had also mentioned in the post match interview with naseer hussain that Pakistan has almost 25 domestic teams and its probably in his agenda to fight for changing the domestic structure.

Dont agree with the comments on PSL, the exposure these young lads got by playing with international players played a big part in this teams confidence

No matter what you say IK, people will always find ways to criticize your cricket intellect. You said we should bat first, Kohli granted us that wish and the result is there to see for everyone.

When Legend speaks, we must listen and stop BS about his cricket knowledge.

Interesting point where Imran Khan mentions that his technique is yet to develop

It's reduced to 16 now.

Agreed. IK definitely has a great cricketing mind.

Agree with all things except PSL. We already had a Faysal Bank T20 if we were to have a PSL without foreign players in Pakistan and it didn't do us any good. And PSL after just 2 editions is showing a fresh crop of battle hardened youngsters. Rest obviously is spot on.

It's over 40 still - in fact this hybrid model is worse than what was previously.

PAK's domestic model doesn't accumulate talent. What you are telling is 8 department & 8 regional teams participate in a FC competition. BUT, half of those teams come from qualifiers, in which probably has 30-40 teams trying to qualify - hence any given time, there are over 600 FC cricketers & very few of them professionally focus on the game (isn't possible either for PCB to feed 600+ players).

What Khan is telling is accumulation of top 100 players from entire country - these are the pros, should be brought under a central contract, so that they can entirely focus on their game & they are managed under a code of conduct. It can have a 2nd team, but top 12 players must fight each others for 6 to 8 teams. It's like Punjab & Punjab A - which is 25 players in Punjab roster, 15 in professional contract, 10 in some retainer ship -
with top 11 plays one round of FC match & the back ups play in 2nd XI match same time - which can be FC status, might not be, doesn't matter. It's like 2nd XI matches in County or the Grade cricket in AUS (every round, each FC team, say NSW, names 12 player for Shield match, rest are released to play grade cricket).

At current system, talent isn't accumulated, rather spread-out, which is pulling down the over-all standard. Khan knows exactly what he is saying - and he is 100% spot on.

Interesting suggestions.

Gutted I missed this interview. Apparently MA and Azhar Mahmood had a very good discussion with Atherton and the rest of the Sky team about domestic structure/future talent etc.

Well said bro.

Haters who have never bowled a ball in their entire lives questioning legends...

Pathetic haters.
