"The way I play is that I never hold back my natural stroke-play" : Faheem Ashraf

Faheem has it in him all the right ingredients . Everything that one would be looking at in a newcomer. Still a bit raw but can easily be polished and can be developed into a gem. Not too different from the raw Razzaq look of 1997.

Faheem Ashraf -An unlucky Player?

He has got immense talent. But wont get a chance regularly in this present pak line up.Where do you play in this line up.If he plays Imad, Sadab or either one pacer has to be missed out.

In Subcontinent both Imad and Shadab should play along with 3 pace bowlers and Fahim should sit out.

On tours outside subcontinent, one of Imad and Shadab should play along with Fahim and 3 pace bowlers.

Arslan Pro I dont agree. Razzaq played in Asia for us.

Faheem can play as well.

Agree but razzaq bowled at 90mph and was used well by the bowling captain Wasim akram back then. Faheem has to improve his bowling like razzaq had to contribute as an all rounder. India is planning well with hardik for the 2019 CWC in England where you need a pace bowling all rounder.

Faheem will get his chances, in NZ .

You should play this 11 in NZ

1.Fakhar
2.Haris
3.Babar
4.Malik
5.Sarfraz * +
6.Hafeez
7.Yamin
8.Amir
9.Shaheen
10.Hassan
11.Junaid

Amir, Shaheen, Hassan, Junaid to bowl 10 each.

Yamin, Hafeez, Malik and Haris to bowl 10 together

What does not seem to have been discussed is his fielding. A lot of the youngsters in the team have shown excellence and energy in the field. Ashraf on the other hand has not- he has dropped two crucial catches so far (one as a substitute fielder):

1. Virat Kohli- was on 43 at the time and went on to score 81*- need I say more?

2. DAS Gunaratne- was on 16 at the time went on to score 27- this was an absolute sitter and while it didn't prove too costly, Gunaratne is a dangerous batsmen, especially given he was the last recognised batsmen.

So my question is:

1. How much of a problem do you think his fielding is? Do you think his fielding is a factor in the management's reluctance to select him?

Took an excellent catch today- was an absolute skier that he had to run back for.

Shame he was only a sub.

Doesn’t seem to be much use for Imad against this Lankan batting lineup with the lefties. I’d play Faheem instead.

Agreed. Imad wasn't really used today so might as well strengthen the batting and bring Ashraf in.

Exactly. Bowling options, especially in the spin department are many with Shoaib, Hafeez and Shadab playing. We need to test his batting. I can't wait for it.

I honestly would like to know Mickey's reasons for holding him back.

But... but... he can't hit.

:)))

Comes in with 2 balls to go and proceeds to hit two sixes. Not many batsmen could do that, but no doubt his detractors will come up with some nonsense.

His bowling certainly seems to be improving.

He has added some serious pace . Has a strong wrist action that will help him move the ball. Just needs to keep improving his control and seam position further .
Lots of potential .

Bowled well in patches but still went for more than 8 an over in this game I think. Lots of upside potential and needs to be persisted with.

I mentioned this in the "outstanding performances" thread but I thought posters here would also like to read it:

I was very happy when I saw this spell live. Here's why. My one worry with him was whether his body language was "aggressive" enough for an all-rounder. Ideally you want someone who is in the batsmen's face whereas Fahim struck me as someone quite "smiley" on the field. However, as the video shows yesterday he showed a different side to him. Great aggression and intimidation.

Yes, was a bit expensive as the pitch was pretty unforgiving and he bowled a couple of loose deliveries but that's inconsequential to the wider point I am making.

But...but... there is no evidence Fahim is a quality batsman. :)))

Encourage all the doubters to watch his match winning innings in today's match Vs Pindi.

Clean hitting under pressure to win the match from an unlikely position.

Challenge anyone to disagree.

Man those sixes were just too good. They would have been sixes on any ground. The good thing when he's hitting is that he looks to hit straight and also gets into a very good hitting position. Plus he can hook and pull too. I am really exicitied about him, hope he keeps improving and also i thing i have noticed about him is that is is not as efficient against spinners which i am sure he will iprove on.

An excellent prospect.

I think Pandya is better. :srt

My Pleasure mate.

Some monstrous hits those.

Yes, i watched the game live and wanted to see them monstrous sixes again lol. This guy can make it big all he needs to do is work hard and focus. He's an excellent prospect.

He has tremendous potential. And to think that he used to be a frontline bowler before his batting talent was identified is incredible. He can be the next genuine allrounder from Pakistan after Razzak.

Amir Yamin is more of a batting allrounder and so is hammad azam. Amaad butt is the only fast bowling allrounder who has a higher ceiling in terms of bowling than any one of these guys. He has the potential to be an out and out pacer and can also bat decently. Good to see Pakistan has a few options now in terms of pace bowling all rounders with some also at the u19 level.

I would like to add Hussain Talat as well. Feel sorry for hammad as he was never given a proper chance. As for Yamin we should play him at 6 if because he is more of a proper batsmen and not somone who can hit big from the word go. As for Amad he got picked for the 1 t20 against England last year and wasn't given a chance. He has a lot of potential too though has has recently changed his bowling action. His batting is not bad too can eaisly avergae 20+ and looks a very good fielder. Though he hasn't developed as quickly as i would have liked.

We have a good bunch but we need to give them a chance too. I would like to see hussain talat getting selected for the NZ series.

17* from 9 balls with one six and a four... good innings helped his team win the match with Khalid sealing it with a six

He is a fantastic player. Any update on his injury? I thought he pulled his hamstring or something just before that Khalid's six?
