"The whole system is archaic and deeply humiliating for the players" : CEO NZCPA on IPL Auction

As someone who feels very strongly about dignified and fair treatment of employees i am glad that a prominent organization has decided to address this filthy display of money power in IPL. I truly believe it is a matter of huge shame for humanity when humans are auctioned like cattle (i don't support animal abuse either) in front of rich billionaires. What saddens my heart even more is the way so many ordinary Indians choose to defend this. Can we please put humanity over nationalism? As i write, the disparity between the rich and poor in India stands at its lowest point. 1% Indians today hold 73% of their country's wealth. What exactly is there to be celebrated about this?

Yours,
Bhaijaan.

But players don't need to be present there.

I don’t like the fact that in these leagues, teams change almost entirely after every couple of seasons.Teams need to develop an identity.
Yep, this is why it's difficult for me to take the tournament seriously. No idea how Indians get into it with all the chopping and changing.

Indians are like monks. They don't associate themselves with any IPL side. Just quality and entertainment provided by a game is good enough.

Huh?

I dearly follow Mumbai Indians. Rohit Sharma, Pollard have been with MI for past many years. Malinga and Bhajji too were with MI but only recently they were let go.

Yeah it's hard to support a team when so many players go in and out. But it's not like they lose star power, they merely replace players with as big or even bigger players which keeps the fans hooked.

It would be better if they kept local players and then allowed for 5 foreign players per team. That way they could have more teams as well.

I.e. Kohli playing for Mumbai, Gambhir for Delhi, Yuvi and Gill for Punjab.

Kohli is not from Mumbai. He is from Delhi. Rohit Sharma is from Mumbai and he is also playing for them.

I hope they never increase the quota, 4 players are perfectly fine. More foregin players mean more garbage international players getting contract at the expense of local players. Dont see that happening.

I would agree with NZCPA. If my name was called and nobody even bid for me, I would feel a bit humiliated. They should think of a better way of picking players; may be do t in private and then just tell the public who has been selected for what team and amount. No need to say which players participated in the auction.

When they perform like this, they have no right to complain about humilation.

They were rightfully rejected for not being good enough.

Would you still be as humiliated if you are then picked up by a team at a later stage and get the riches you were yearning for?

Face it: it's about the money, not about somebody holding a placard when your name is called alongside thousands of others.
