Mohammad Yousuf speaking to the press after 2nd Day of 1st Test

"You cannot have a better innings than this one from Babar where he was under pressure on a turning pitch; He played with great patience and also farmed the tail with Yasir Shah, Hassan Ali and Naseem Shah; Such an innings has not been witnessed for a while which was played under so much pressure on a spinning track and against a spinner like Jayasuriya"

"There are no words to describe Babar Azam's knock today"

"Babar played a great knock against Australia in Karachi and another one in Australia before that but I feel he would have liked this innings a lot"

Asked if any message was sent to Babar when Pakistan were reduced to 85/7

"Babar is captain and its not nice to send him messages like that; He played with great responsibility and the other batters who shared partnerships with Babar towards the end of the innings also played very well"

"Saqlain and I were discussing at that point that we felt that if Babar could setup such partnerships we would be able to get to Sri Lanka's score and that is what happened"

"I have no words to describe how our tailenders supported Babar and you can see that only after facing about 40 balls did Naseem Shah hit a boundary so you can see the patience with which he played; Naseem played a solid innings and no edges came off his bat"

How Babar played spin so well

"I think Babar played most balls under his chin and that is the best way to survive under difficult conditions for batters; This is the best way to survive good spells, even from fast bowlers and when you do that, you play better cricket and this is what Babar has done today"

Be interesting to know Moyo's thoughts on the pathetic effort by our top order batsmen.

Yousuf must be looking at the approach and the technique of some of Pakistan's current batters and wondering how it has come to this.

I mean some of these guys are so bad and so negative that it makes you wonder who has been coaching them at junior and domestic levels.

This was an all time great innings when you put the pitch and the situation in witch Pakistan was into the equation.

Brilliant, brilliant knock.

Yousaf himself struggled badly against left arm spinners like Herath, Vetorri. His record against them is bad.

Best batsman in the world. Babar azam is truly special. What a player.

Lol, one of our all time great batsman says it was an amazing innings and all the comments are somehow negative.

I think it was an amazing innings and agree with Mohd Yousuf, our legendary player. What an innings by Babar. The boy is going up the rankings to be amongst the greats. Only jealour people would begrudge that.

What's wrong with you guys??

Excellent excellent knock.

Yes one may say that the bowlers were not great, but he had to play with the tail as rest of the batsmen simply collapsed . Add to that the fact that the pitch though not unplayable had enough assistance for spinners.

Well Played!!!

From the masters of spin batters of Zaheer, Miandad, Malik and Younis-Yousaf-Inzi to this batch.

I remember Shoaib Malik playing a marathon knock of 148 not out in the 4th innings against Murali and co in SL.

The good thing about Afridi is he never defends Shaheen in the public like he did with Ahmed Shehzad even though Shaheen is his family. If anything, he actually goes hard on Shaheen more often than not.

Babar better get in the zone NOW - will need to repeat this again.
