There can't be any superstars if you make them toil in domestic cricket for years

The right age for player to debut in International cricket is 19-21. The current notion is that especially in Pakistan the player needs to toil in domestic system for years for him to be ready for international cricket. If we used the same logic in the past, Do you think we would have ATG players like Akram, Tendulkar, Waqar, Botham, Ponting, Lara etc? People need to realize that 25 is not a young age for a cricketer and if he is making his debut at that age then the time for him to develop into an ATG is very less. Even current superstars like William, Root, Kohli, Smith, Rohit etc made their debuts at early age.

They need to learn their cricket also. If you dont put them through the system and hurry debuts then that can backfire.

But they need to grind it out for 2-3 years in domestic cricket. Kohli played at least 3 years in domestic before playing. Tendulkar was a special talent but even he had to score 3 consecutive centuries in all 3 different domestic tournaments on debut. Only player after that to do so I India is shaw and even he played a handful of domestics. Exceptionally talented pace bowlers may be yes pick them early

The likes of wasim, Waqar, Inzi, and all 90s great players were a product of direct mentoring by the great Imran Khan and Miandad, two of Pakistan’s most astute sportsmen. Had a 19 year old Wasim joined with Sarfraz or Azhar as captain and Hassan Ali as role model....we all know where he’d be today.

I think Younis Khan, Mohammed Yousuf, Asim Kamal, Sohaib Malik, Mohammed Hafeez and many more should work Cricket academies in Pakistan.

Can you prove quantitatively that the right age is 19-21?

Tendulkar was spotted by Vengsarkar. Bumrah was spotted by John wright. You need someone to spot these talents. But most of them had to work hard. Ganguly through influence got picked for 1991/92 australian tour. He looked like a deer caught in headlights on that tourn. Banished for the next 4 years. Again he got picked for 1996 tour after failure of Manjrekar and other middle order batsmen. Dravid and Ganguly made debut in the same test. People understood the selection of Dravid as he did well in domestic. Laxman was screaming for selection for 2 consecutive years Ganguly came through backdoor. Everyone was criticizing the selection. He totally shocked everyone by scoring back to back 100s.

Ganguly came via East zone quota. Not via backdoor. Although people were not happy but nobody could question the legality of his selection. That was the established process at that time.

Faddu toiled in domestic circuit for a decade. Where did that take him.

The first time he was picked was Dalmiya games.

But he has proven his mettle since.

There were several far better domestic performers around that time than him.

OP is wrong.

Unless you are a Tendulkar or Akram, supremely gifted with natural ability to perform, a player needs good amount of domestic games to not only hone his skills, but to also show that they have the ability to perform.

Not sure about Pakistan school cricket. In India many school cricket goes on forever. One where Sachin and Kambli added 664 runs, they played 120 overs. School cricket especially in Mumbai area is all about battathons. Shaw is following the footsteps of Tendulkar. First broke his record. Then he made first class century like Tendulkar. He also made a Test century on debut.

From what I know, School cricket is non-existent in Pakistan. There is no grassroot level except club cricket. Poor people in Pakistan can't afford private schools and very few parents from the middle to upper-class families want their children to play cricket.

25 to 30 FC matches should be enough to decide if he is good enough for Pakistan or not

Either we pick teengers or pick grandpas, there is no inbetween.

Srilanaka is all about school cricket.
