Dale Steyn at a media talk:

"There were a couple of rained off games, I always find that when rain interferes, anything can happen in a game, when you start shortening it. If you're fighting 20 overs each, it's a fair game. With 9 overs each, it's still fair but it becomes more of a lottery and a team can outplay the other team by marginally doing well.

"We've had a couple of games rained out, on the wrong side of the toss a couple of times with Pindi being one of the highest scoring grounds in the tournament, ideally you'd like to be chasing. A couple of factors didn't go our way. At the end, we're in a situation where we have it in our hands to win one game and we're into the playoffs, so it's a big game for us on Saturday.

"It's been a long time since I came to Pakistan, 2007 was 13 years ago. I took a 5fer on this ground, we won that Test and drew the next one in lahore and won the series. My only trip to Pakistan was a successful one for the Proteas. This time around, it's been a lot of fun, I've enjoyed playing the cricket.

"I think the crowds have been fantastic, we played a well-played game in Lahore when we won and we're hoping to play more of that brand of cricket here in Karachi. If we can do that, it'll be a successful PSL.

"Anytime you're playing, you want to perform and have great results. If I can get a 5fer or 3 or whatever it is, it'd be amazing, to wind the clock back in a sense, when I last played in Karachi. That's every game's goal.

"I've enjoyed working with the young bowlers, they're full of enthusiam. They've spent some time with the greats of the game, Wasim and Waqar and they talk highly of them.

"I think there's so much talent, Pakistan has a rich history of great fast-bowlers. I don't want to come here and reinvent the wheel for these youngsters, I just want to share my experiences and if there's something they can take out of that and learn from it, bonus. If not, it's not a problem.

"At the end of the day, I also want to learn since these guys have been playing here all the time and I haven't been here in 13 years, so I want to learn as quickly as possible so I can do well. It's a good, sharing environment.

"For me, it's all about 20/20 right now. A couple of months ago, I didn't see myself going to the World Cup. Then I had a good conversation with Mark and Quinton and that's the goal, to put myself up there and fight for a place for the World Cup. This year, it's all about 20/20. Even though I've played 200 games, you just want to get into T20 form. I'm not playing Test cricket, I won't be playing much ODI cricket so I just need to focus on 4 overs, my strengths and hopefully take that into the World Cup in October.

"The security has been great, I haven't had any issues. There's not much we can really do, in the sense we're not leaving the hotel much. I think that's a good thing, I don't want to be that player - I love going out and being adventurous - I don't want to be the person to blame if something happens and future tours are cancelled because of my ignorance, because I wanted to go and do something. We follow the rules and do what we're allowed to do. I think it's been fine so far, we've had a good time."

There is no doubt, everyone admits it. Who knows more so than legend like Steyn, Grant Elliott. Armchair critics would say there is nothing in Pakistan. Pakistan needa solid system to bring these kids out to the world.

He is right. There is a reason why our bowling has been world class for so many years and why the likes of Rahat, Irfan, Tanvir, Junaid, Sohail Khan, Bhatti, Anwar Ali, Shinwari, Wahab etc. are not getting PSL contracts in 2020.

Aren't those guys already playing in PSL 2020?

Come on guys why would you believe professional sports stars who play the game over what a professional wrist slitter tells you.

Rahat, Irfan, Tanvir, Junaid, Sohail Khan, Bhatti, Anwar Ali, Shinwari, Wahab had bags of potential and with better coaching could have defo flourished.

These overseas players just say the same old cliches about Pakistan and talent.

We have no clue what our 11 will be for the World T20 and for the tests against England.

Not a good position to be in.

Having talent and not selecting + properly developing players are not the same. There is no doubt Pakistan has lots of talented players not given proper opportunities to fully realise their potential. Only blind hater would deny that

Poor version of waqar younis 2.0 at the minute when he came back into the team as captain around 2003

Needs to bowl faster to make a real impact otherwise he will only be used as a container

At a time when the entire sporting world has come to an unusual halt amid the coronavirus pandemic, players have decided to go into self-isolation in a bid to maintain social distancing as per health advisory. Veteran South African pacer Dale Steyn, who returned back home mid-way from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020, which was postponed just ahead of semi-finals of the tournament, said the matter surrounding the COVID-19 escalated within 24-48 hours and suddenly it became the biggest thing.

With World Health Organisation (WHO) declaring the novel a pandemic, foreign players plying trade in PSL 2020 decided to fly back home even the tournament was called off. Steyn said he didn’t want to break any protocol and leave cricket in Pakistan in jeopardy because of ‘something stupid’ and hence, he followed the advisory.

“It happened really quickly. I was in Pakistan but it was raining [Steyn played for Islamabad United]. We were under that kind of hotel arrest - advised not to go out and wander the streets, which is totally fine; I don't want to break protocol and [have] something happen and be blamed for cricket never being played in Pakistan again because I did something stupid!” Steyn told a leading cricket portal.

“As the week went on, everything just seemed to escalate. In the space of 24-48 hours, we went from nobody talking about coronavirus to, suddenly, everyone had a hand sanitiser and it was the biggest thing,” the veteran Proteas speedster added.

Furthermore, Steyn urged everyone to follow the health advisory and maintain personal hygiene. He added by saying that helping yourself is the best possible way to curb the COVID-19.

“Stay healthy, wash your hands, look after yourself, don't be greedy. Right now they are saying old people are really struggling, so if in a position to help, rather help them than help yourself. Pretty simple, really,” Steyn concluded.

South Africa great Dale Steyn remains one of the best fast bowlers in world cricket. He has terrorised oppositions with his brute pace and skills throughout his career and continues to do so in the limited-overs format after retiring from Test cricket last year. Steyn recently recalled his duel with Pakistan's star batsman Babar Azam during the series between the two sides in 2018-19.

Steyn was spearheading the pace attack for hosts South Africa in the Test series. The pacer recalled how he probably underestimated Babar's abilities as a batsman before the right-hander showed his class with the willow. Babar scored 221 runs in three matches in the series and scored some fine boundaries off Steyn's bowling.

Recently, during an interaction on social media, Steyn praised Babar for playing with an aggressive mindset and performing well against him in tough conditions in South Africa.

“I love the fact that Babar came out and played with that aggressive mindset. I know I bowled like five half-volleys in a row to give him that opportunity to get onto that role. I think I probably underestimated his ability. He had a couple of great drives. I thought I would send it wider but he was able to get on top of that as well," Steyn said in the video.

Babar, who made his international debut for Pakistan in 2015 has come a long way since then. He has proved his credentials as one of the best batsmen in modern-day cricket and has been scoring runs consistently across all three formats. Steyn lauded Babar for taking him on the way he did in the series and said he enjoyed the battle with the Pakistan star.

“He has now gone on to make a billion runs since then. He used that as the stepping stone because he had taken on a bowler who in his eyes was one of the best. That is awesome. It is nice that there is a cat and mouse thing with everyone. When we face off next time, it is going to be back to zero. The past won’t matter. It’s really nice that he has gone on to be as good as he is,” added Steyn.

We have a good idea who the pacers are going to be. It's the batting talent that's missing

Oh do you mean the Tanvir who was the best bowler in the inaugural IPL, your country’s T20 tourney?

Pakistan never had any issue in fast bowling department. It was always batting and fielding (and recently spin bowling).
