Azhar Ali at a presser after day 2 at Lord's:

"We've got into a good position now but there's a long way to go, Test match wins don't come that easy so we know we've got to play good cricket to win this Test"

"First two days were really good for us after the way the bowlers got the England team out for 184, then every batsman went in and fought though conditions weren't easy and the English bowling attack is of good quality"

"Everyone fought in the middle and there were a lot of fifties, as a batsman you want to score hundreds but in this case everyone contributed to the team score so that was heartening to see"

"You assess the target according to the match situation, we'll try to score maximum runs tomorrow with these last two wickets. Hopefully Babar recovers and bats again"

"The ball I got out to was in a good area but I played the wrong line. You try to make the most of it when you're set but in these conditions, whether you're on 50 or 70 or 100, you have to be technically very sound as batting doesn't really get easier at any point"

"When we were batting yesterday, the conditions were very tough and the light was less. When you get a good ball, you can't do much about it so we tried to keep our shape and not to follow the ball. You should forget what happened on the last ball and focus on the coming one, that helps to build a partnership which makes things easier"

"In comparison to the match we played here two years ago, there is more grass covering and there's more juice and moisture as it's early summer. If you look at it, the grass' colour has changed a bit but there's still zip in it, 2016 was drier"

"Anderson and Broad are experienced bowlers, Broad has gained pace in comparison to 2016. Any time you play against Anderson, he tests you. We've been playing them for a while so we've gained experience of how to play them but they can give any batting lineup a tough time"

"It's a very good sign to see youngsters scoring, you rarely see such touch conditions in international cricket, pitches are mostly good and you can score runs. To score runs in such conditions is a good sign for the future. The fearless attitude they showed up the order, the top order fought then Shadab and Faheem played their own game and didn't get bogged down. It's really good, the attitude with which they are playing their cricket"

"When I came here I was struggling a bit but runs bring confidence. The previous match against Leicestershire brought some rhythm and confidence to my batting"

"It's a new team so it takes time to develop understanding. A lot of the new guys are absorbing the pressure and they have done really well in this game. Against Ireland, we were dominating for a long time and then suddenly the pressure got to us. But Imam responded to that really well and Babar did well despite being short of runs"

"In the first two days here we've held our catches, bowlers hit their areas and the batsmen played good cricket, these two days were the result of very good preparation and hard work so hopefully we can transfer that into a very good win at Lord's"

Azhar can be proud of his own role - well done to him but should have got a hundred today.
