Guys so I'd be making a trip across the pond to the UK in the week of Labour day long weekend - 3rd - 8th Sept. (Yes in Canada we celebrate Labour Day in Sept, I know its weird - don't ask) :inzi2

I'd land in Manchester and be there three days, and then a couple of days in Liverpool. Are there other places we should check out? Are there any major attractions in both cities that are must see? I had planned to go to Old Trafford and Merseyside stadiums.

You should go and pay tribute to the greatest football team of our lifetime ie Manchester United

Drepends what like but there is a football museum in manchester, trafford shopping centre, wilmslow rd for desi food, parks, nightlife .

Liverpool you have Beatles museum , Anfield . I would recommed an open bus tour around the city. If Youre there on friday go to Quilliam mosque & you will meet Mo Salah .

There is a lot to see. I have stayed in both the cities for a long time. I will update this thread soon to help :)

There is nothing to see

There's the Lake District if you're into the outdoors and natural sight seeing. It's about a 2-3h drive though.

The best thing about Manchester is the food though. Loads of restaurants and cuisines that offer halal food.

Whilst in Manchester, you might as well check out the city centre or "downtown" as the North Americans put it. It's got a large shopping centre called the Arndale centre where you can pass some time as well as the nearby Piccadilly Gardens if it's a nice day. You could also check out the Trafford Centre, another large shopping mall which is not too far from Old Trafford, you can also get a halal Nando's here if that's your thing.

You could also venture out to Blackpool (beach and theme park) on one of your days as it's not too far from either city, around 50 miles from both. It used to be a major attraction back in the day but still quite busy during the summer.

Don't forget to visit Wilmslow Road (the Curry Mile) just south of Manchester city centre. This is in the heart of the Pakistani community in Manchester and you can grab a bite to eat at many of the restaurants here and also pick up your customary mithai to take back home. Although nowadays, there are quite a few middle eastern eateries and shisha places there now. Rammed full of cars on Eid but you won't have to worry about that.

Thanks for the wonderfully informative post.

I find UK cities to be ugly and ghetto towns. Only Central London has its charm - other than that its all dumps.

People who visit UK should explore country not cities.

Liverpool is full of museums; Maritime, Anfield, Art etc , the Library is amazing and there's also Goodison Park.

i never understand when people give Pakistanis recommendations for Pakistani food places when touring foreign lands

if youre there just for a vacation why not try different local cuisine?

Well, it can still be considered "local" because you might not get many of same dishes or taste elsewhere. Plus you need to factor in the halal requirement which will be necessary for most Pakistanis or persons of Pakistani origin.

Add to that, don't know many persons coming to Manchester mentioned above who would not have visited Wilmslow Road. The place is buzzing in the evenings.

Id visit the Lake District for scenery or you can always visit the historic towns of Chester or York, north wales isn’t too far too for beaches Theres also Blackpool the seaside resort These are all within a couple of hours of each other

There’s not much to see in Liverpool or Manchester apart from the football stadiums or shopping and eating

Try fish and chips while you're there.

Also Canada celebrates labor day in september like us here in America because Canada is our 51st state :afridi

English food is just bland with little flavour, which is why English prefer a chinese or indian . The local dish in Manchester is a Lancashire hotpot . Although i love a Sunday roast. :inzi

Exactly.... I was just in Pakistan, why would I have Pakistani food in UK, also pretty sure we can get better Pakistani food in Toronto than anywhere in the UK.

Defo going to Chester... the wife has friends there.

Id be surprised if this were to be true. UK has thousands of high quality Pakistani restaurants but i will check out Toronto in the near future.

And yes if you want to see real England go to the countryside towns such as York in the north.

Yep, in order to keep the punters coming through the doors in a very competitive market.

Liverpool have the best toilets in the country you could always head there.

If you want to experience Birmingham but are on a budget then Manchester is great! Wilmslow Road is decent for food, Nawabz is one of the best halal buffets in the country although I imagine food won't really impress you a great deal being from Pakistan. The only time I am forced into Manchester is for events, if there's anything you like which is upcoming at the MEN arena you could check it out:

https://www.manchester-arena.com/events/

If you do head to Liverpool be very careful, the most dangerous groups over there are the scousers and mirpuris; so dangerous that your brain will get fried within 100 yards of their presence.

If you're in the east midlands then Matlock is not too bad, check out the Heights of Abraham:

British cuisine is basically borrowing everyone else's.

Our local cuisine would consist of fish and chips and Greggs pasties.

Other suggestion apart from the above include :

Chester Zoo worth a full day You could incorporate this with the trip to chester

Whitby on the north east coast is a pretty seaside town and contains the ruins of whitby abbey - its not too far from york and well worth a trip

Lancaster is a historic town in north west england with a castle This can be visited on a day trip to the lakes - visit grasmere or keswick in the lakes

What about Holly Head

English food isnt all that special, i eat white people food like everyday lol. Try fish n chips and then just eat desi food, cause fish n chips is the only thing uniquely English.
