1) Australia v West Indies 1992 World Cup last group stage match. Australia only scored 216. It was 60% in West indian favor at half time. But Aussie pacers did the job and Pakistan progressed towards Semi Finals. People do not that how lucky we were actually that Windies could not even chase 217.

2) T20 World Cup 2010.
Pakistan lost to Kiwiz by 2 runs due to Salman Butt’s poor shot. Lost to England as well. But managed to beat Proteas and that day Paul Collingwood’s England beat Kiwiz and Pakistan progressed despite 2 points from 3 matches. Mike Hussey’s innings snatched their semi Final win later on and converted it into Aussie win.

3) Gulbadin Naib’s over went for 18 runs and rest is history.
4) 1999 World cup. Pakistan was the biggest beneficiary. Lost 3 straight matches against Bangladesh, S Africa and India. After easy wins over Zimbabwe and due to marginal high NRR ended up playing Kiwiz again in Semis.

Now people are complaining that Why india did not win.
These sort of scenarios cannot always go your way. That is how life goes on

In 1999 luck had nothing to do with PCT

4) PCT needed only one win coz super six ,that tournament India was the unlucky one coz effin Zim made it to super six instead of England whom we had beaten, that would had meant after Pak win we needed to beat Nz in last match, but that match had no importance to us.

You are trying to lecture someone who has even witnessed 1987 world cup. Pakistan never bossed 1999 world cup. Scrapped through West indies with poor batting reduced to 42/4 and just got over the line n defended 229. Narrowly beat Auusies in group stage and top order struggled against scotland.
Thrashed by Bangladesh, Beaten by South Africa and thrashed by India and ended up putting lowest ever total of 132 in world cup final. Bossed ? Aussies and Proteas bossed that world cup.

I already talked about his error of 99 and luck, but you are incorrect as well, against India the team wasn't through, it needed one win, which came in the next match against Zim, which for all you know could had washed out.

And by the way India only managed to beat England in 1999, due to reserve day. Otherwise match would have been called off with 1 point each. India got away with it due to relaxed rules. Eng would have advanced with 7 points.

Yes Zim played well but we screwed up against them, that was defn the day it felt like its Sachin or bust.

Yes Pak escaped not playing SA, but i think That could had gone either way, just Aus were mighty in momentum by then.

If my memory serves me well in ind v zim game, javagal srinath hit giant sixes in the end and run rate was never an issue i think, who was tht guy Henry olonga, he did few things.

That's a very fiery tone but quite misplaced. Pakistan topped the group stage, while losing only one game and then entered semis as #1 team. Their losses were in games, where their #1 position was almost certain. No one cared. And very few expected what happened in the final. And while we are at it, I watched 87 World Cup, and some of the ones before too (not sure if I should be boldly claiming this or not)

So why should India care about losing to England in this world cup? This thread and million other threads on PP whining and crying started after India lost against England.

I don't know what your position is in that regards but most of Pakistani PPers are complaining you should tell them this piece of history where "Pakistan did not care". Now India doesn't care.

Fact is we’re not consistent enough to be considered top 4. If we get through on others misery then ofc we’d take it but on our performance so far..we shouldn’t.

I agree in a tournament like this you need a bit of luck. Prime example of this is the contrasting fortunes of Pakistan and New Zealand. So far, New Zealand have a little bit more luck than Pakistan.

Both Pakistan and New Zealand had 1 game rained out. New Zealand's game was with India meanwhile Pakistan's game was against Sri Lanka. Not to say that beating Sri Lanka was a foregone conclusion but I would take my chances of beating Sri Lanka over India any given day. And of course New Zealand could've beaten India but that would be a pretty big upset.

Sri Lanka is even unluckier in this regard. The two games they've had rained out were Pakistan and Bangaldesh.

Also factor in the fact that New Zealand have had 3 very narrow victories (South Africa, Bangaldesh and West Indies).

So yes, luck has played its part and so far it's gone against Pakistan and Sri Lanka while heavily favoring New Zealand. But OP is right, you can't control luck and sometimes it goes for you other times it doesn't.

Overall, this hasn't been a disastrous world cup for Pakistan except the loss against West Indies. But again small margins, Pakistan could've lost to Afghanistan and that would've been calamitous.
