At the end of the match you should be able to look each other in the eyes, shake hands and say ‘great contest’.

Virat Kohli could not do that with Tim Paine, shaking the Australian captain’s hand but barely making eye contact with him. To me, that is disrespectful.

Kohli gets away with more than most cricketers simply because he is Virat Kohli and he gets placed on a pedestal but this Test left the Indian captain looking silly.

Overall the banter out on the field was fine and I really enjoyed seeing the Indian four-pronged attack going hard at the Australians both verbally and with the ball. It got the crowd going and it is great for the game.

However, Kohli has contradicted the things he said at the start of the series. He said he was a changed person - that he was coming in with a different attitude to last time and wasn’t going to initiate anything. What we saw this Test says otherwise.

From my experiences with him and what I am seeing as an observer now, not much has changed. It was disappointing and that is not the only area where he let himself down.

In the first innings he scored a brilliant hundred and walked off to a standing ovation but he failed to acknowledge the crowd because he felt hard done by after Peter Handscomb’s catch. To me the catch was given out so you accept it and move on and as a player who has scored a hundred you acknowledge the standing ovation.

I was not impressed that he opted not to do the press conference that night. He was going to get asked about the Handscomb catch so he sent out young quick Jasprit Bumrah instead to take the heat.

I am not claiming to be a saint and I gave my fair share of verbals. However, I never said I would not initiate verbals heading into a series. I was also never captain.

It should be said that Kohli and I have our differences and it all stems back to 2014 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground when he drove a ball back to me and I threw it back. I was aiming for the stumps because he had left his crease, but unfortunately the throw hit him instead.

I apologised immediately because that obviously was not my intention but it sparked a heated debate. After play he came out and said he had “no reason to respect” me. He lost me then.

He is the No.1 batsman in the world at the moment and what he does for his team is great but I’m not sure this is how your captain should behave.

If he ever wanted to sit down for a coffee to chat about our differences, I would be open to it but I’m sure he has better things to do.

At the end of the day Tim Paine has handled himself superbly. He was not going to bow down to the Indian captain and he stood up for his team. That’s what the captain should do and he did it in the right manner.

This was a huge win for Australia and it came as a huge relief for the team. The way they showed their character throughout this Test match was absolutely spot on and having the stump mics turned up has allowed the public to see that.

I would have been nervous in my playing days if I had heard the stump mics were going to be turned up but not because I had anything to hide. I never said anything personal.

I would have been more worried about accidentally swearing, which can happen in the heat of the battle and that happens for both sides – not just Australia.

Having them turned up this match has just shown how harmless a lot of the banter is.

Kohlis cheesy sledges have cost Ind the last 2 away series, the last thing you want to do is rile up the likes of AB morkel Anderson broad cook starc etc.

He gets away with it because of his superior batting but his average teamates have to bare the wrath of the other team. You just need to look at there celebrations at the end of the series, makes kohli look like a fool.

.

Err noo, they lost the 2 away series because rest of his team was not good enough..

Now back to Mitch, I dont know why the Australians are all of a sudden wanting to judge and talk like they are saints, I mean Clarke's famous words as Captain on field to Anderson was: 'get ready for a Bleeping broken arm'... However Kohli has acted like an idiot this series...

Kohli looked like joker celebrating like won the match
When dismissing Australia in 2nd innings
As if 270 was like 120

How girlish is Johnson ! I thought he was better than this .Kohli is to play with full intensity and win for his country ,not for looking with respect in Tim paine’s eyes .Too much fuss about petty issue , it occurs every time when India travels to Australia . Aussies are getting taste of their own medicine .

You know whats weird. For all of Kohli's on field antics he never gets into major problems with the Pakistani lads. He actually seems to enjoy a good laugh with them!

Johnson still hurting from the thrashing a 26 year old Kohli gave him on the 2014 tour. That precipitated his subsequent retirement. None of his antics in that series worked against Kohli.

Winners take the prom queen home, it's as simple as that. I am personally ok with whatever Kohli does because all of us who have followed cricket since 90s would remember how Australians used to behave. But the important difference is that Glen Mcgrath/Steve Waugh/Ponting used to win a lot of matches all over the world, which Kohli's team is not doing. So while Australians used to come across as arrogant and rude in those days, Kohli is coming across as silly for similar behavior. Kohli should rather yell at his teammates in the dressing room, as they are the frustrating part, not Paine or Johnson.

Tim Paine gets a lot of credit from me. Simply because he took Kohli upon himself in terms of sledging and altercations and made it all about Paine vs Kohli. All the news in this Test match was about Paine vs Kohli. This shielded all his other players who would then just focus on their own performances. Good leadership from Paine. I mean Paine used to be the nicest shy guy from Australia and in this Test match we saw him taking on cricket's biggest superstar in a verbal duel and also sledged other Indian batsmen from behind the stumps.

Kohli can do his team world of good if he can keep his mouth zipped. He is losing his career credibility by being a little kid who will fight for anything. He is captain of India team, show respect for urself and others will respect you. He thinks taking on Aus in Aus like this will help them. I wont be surprised if this dont pump up aussies now and they will go on to win the series 3-1. I wont be.

Neither does he get involved with the Lankans, Windians or Kiwis. With SA, Eng he may sometimes act like a tool but doesn't get into fights. Only against Australia does he get into these situations, which suggests that Aussies are no saints either and there is some level of provocation from their end.

Silly as in? As a captain? Yes

As a player? No. Stop crying Aussies.

Crying? Lol

He has just said that virat has become the laughing stock of the whole world just like his team. His team is getting thrashed like nobody but he's acting as if he's ponting leading the great Australian side. :))

So we’re making up history now?

Johnson retired after making Kohli look like a fool in a WC semi and then winning the WC

It seems the aussies and their crowd are attacking the captain on purpose and he doesnt seem to be handling it well. Its the whole mental disintegration thing. I mean you would think the Pakistani lads would hate Kohli but they genuinely seem to like the guy and the banter is on the field. Does he try to make more of an effort with us?

Johnson retired a year later against NZ. He did retire from ODIs after winning the WC and getting 'Superstar Chaser' Kohli for 1(13) in the SF

Yeah because they genuinely respect him and fear him. The one guy that tried to give it to him was Sohail Khan and even though he did well against India in the world cup with his 5 wickets, he did not change the course of the match and nor did he gain any respect from the then best batsman of the world.

Kohli is cool like that, if you are cool with him he would be respectful towards you.

Australians really hate Kohli. Maybe they’re jealous?

They really don’t like it when the opposition gives it back to them.

They’re happy when Micheal Clarke threatens a broken arm and the opposition quietly takes it.

Johnson is right. Kohli should know it very well that he has KL Rahul and Vijay as openers. He can't win this series and verbal battle against Aussies with such average performers. :inti

The mental side of things....psychological warfare is on

Almost feel sorry for Virat now.

Kohli did nothing wrong.

It's good to see someone from Asia so confident and able to sledge back at the ozs.

It was Pak players who used to do it, legends like Imran, Sarfaraz Nawaz, Miandad, Wasim, Shoaib Akhtar.

Now, we have someone from ind as well, and it's good to see.

For far too long they were under the influence of Sachins losing and timid culture.

Things would have been different; had Kohli lasted a 100 (more) deliveries :kohli

I don't think he came out silly. It is a smart tactic but India lost

Aussies are godsend judges of human beings. They only know about human behaviour and noone else.

The only laughing stock are the aussies. Using Sand Paper to win test matches and then running their mouths.

His team is number 1 in the world and thrashed a lot of teams. Something Bangladesh fans wont understand.

Absolutely agree with the sandpaper comment - not with the Bangladesh bit though :)

Think it seems that Australian players feel they have been granted sainthood as a result of sandpapergate and some statement by their board on code of conduct.

You would be so naive to think Kohli would read all this and feel sorry for himself. It is the way how Aussie media operate and they have even called Kohli 'Donald Trump of cricket'. Come on Bhaijan, He is a Dilli da Munda and have scored a century next day after his father's death when he was a virtual nobody.Man is built of steel and all these are just white noise for him.

Kohli is a brilliant player but he is looking for fights that are not there and hence he ends up costing his team. The thing about sledging is that desi players don't have the vocabulary to put pressure on the Aussies and swearing at them by calling them a b##st## makes no difference to them but would hurt desi players because of our culture of izzat bezti.

How is that costing his team?

Australia becomes PC police selectively for years. Only team that has right to be PC Police is NZ.

Both the captains said no line was crossed, no personal abuses were said by either side. End of the matter.

Pundits are only trying to add more spice.

As I've mentioned earlier in the test, a bit rich of the Aussies to take the stance as the moral police here given the sandpaper gate and their history of personal verbal attacks such as the Mcgrath and Sarwan incident which only backfired.

First Hussey and now MJ who were a part of Aussie teams that stirred up a lot more trouble on the field with the latter being a part of it.

I'm glad to see a side from the SC give it back to the Aussies. India sides of the past would have bowed down and not said a word.

It's kohli who crossed the line. Paine just responded to put kohli to his place. All of the Australianns have been really nice to kohli but as expected, kohli failed to reciprocate that. How would u explain that chest bump incident. Paine was gracious enough get away from kohli. If it was someone like hayden, God knows what would've happened to kohli.

Imagine. Kohli will run away from the field. Makes you feel better?

I didn't see the handshake but what happened between Kohli and Paine was largely harmless. However, Kohli's bump into Paine and the silly sendoff was quite immature. But again, nothing to make a big deal about.

Indians are very quick to think about the past about what happened between Kohli and Johnson etc.

Truth is Kohli was extremely cocky and constantly looking for a fight this test match, he called himself the best player in the world and rightly so got humbled by the part time captain. Next time if you’re going to sledge, back it up with performance.

Eh what? KOHLI should back his talk with a performance from bat?
I could understand if you meant captaincy but lol at doubting his batting credentials.

I'm talking about the sledge he was doing in the 3rd innings, laughing at others and calling himself the best player in the world. He should have proven his point in the fourth innings but he didn't.

Lol what he played very well in 2nd innings, and he should play well in 4th too, then should be bowl as well?

Ross Taylor's 290 vs Johnson led to his retirement. Kohli had nothing to do with it.

Mitchell Johnson and Michael Clarke lecturing others how to conduct behavior as a sportsman, lol...

But tbh yes Johnson got the last laugh vs Kohli.
