This World Cup seems to be going the way of the 2003 World Cup for Pakistan

More or less similar circumstances, the 2003 WC team had toured SA for 5 ODI's and 3 test matches prior to the WC and then had the same practice games as the other team but no difference what so ever, the batting flopped, the bowling flopped and the fielding was sub par and the overall squad while great on paper just looked out of form, devoid of confidence and a lot of players who were too old, playing on reputation and not able to compete at the highest level anymore.

Same situation in some ways for this WC where they team arrived for a 3 T-20 series, 5 ODI series against England while the rest of the world was busy in the IPL and then had the same number of practice games as the other team. This team had the competitive advantage compared to other teams. What we are seeing a squad that has been selected without any serious thought, strategic planning and picked in a hushed manner for a tournament of such a magnitude whereas the rest of the world were pretty certain of their final group of 15-18 players months in advance.

Ehsan Mani and Wasim Khan will definately take a deeper look into this debacle and clean up house once the painful humiliation is over. The gap between Pakistani players overall and the Big 5 is just too big now and i just don't see our players taking on that personal responsibility themselves to try to get to that level therefore the PCB has to by law now promote those players willing to get there and kicking out others who are not consistent enough and are coasting on past laurels.

Just like Mamoon pointed out a few years back. People always have tried to ignore him but its visible now.

We are just not good enough. There is no one we could have added to make it better.

Pakistan cricket will remain like this till we produce better modern day cricketers. Will this ever happen? I hope so. Don't need another sport going the way Hockey went.

This talk of modern day cricketers is made over complicated than it really is or appears to be? Who are modern day cricketers? Modern day cricketers are now complete professionals who have taken their fitness and nutrition to another level? Who have a scientific approach to the game analyzing the opposition inside out. Who spend countless hours in the nets honing their skills to meet the modern requirements of the game and players who know full well if they don't perform their is someone else out there waiting to take their spot

Our players are still playing and approaching the game as if its the 80's and 90's where you just had to turn up and just rely on your natural gifts and abilities and eat and enjoy life carefree like the players in the 80's and 90's. Cricket does not work like that anymore. Like i said i don't see Pakistani players taking on that personal responsibility to do the needful and this is where the PCB and the selectors need to come down hard by selecting only those players with the right mindset and attitude to represent Pakistan and axing those who are too inconsistent and coasting on past laurels.

It's a bit of 2003 and 2007 mixed in.

If those teams failed we shouldn't be surprised that the current team failed.

Other countries are just playing much better cricket.
