Round 1 is complete and super round is about to start. I was looking at the stats of top 15 batsmen and 20 bowlers.
Among the batsmen, only Saud Shakeel and Imran Rafiq (only 1 season) stood out in terms of yound age and decent career average. Rest were either too old, low career average (in low to mid 30s), or usual suspects like Khurram Manzoor, Salman Butt, Umar Akaml, and Fawad Alam.
Among the bowlers, I was mainly interested in the fast bowlers. Only 2 bowlers, Tauseeq Shah and Ali shafiq, stood out for their age. Rest were either spinners or usual suspects like Sadaf Hussain and Ehsan Adil. Rawalpindi hasn't qualified for the super round so Tauseeq won't be playing further in the tournament.
I am not worried about spinners because we have lot of left arm spinners in various age brackets. However, looking at batsmen and fast bowlers, it looks like either no decent young talent is coming through or they are not good enough to make their mark.
Seems outside the 11 that played in the last test against Aus, we are limited to the likes of Sami Aslam, Usman Salahuddin, Saad Ali, Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Junaid Khan, M Amir, and Hassan Ali as backup. All, except Saud and Saad, have been tried.
