"Thought we had best batters in Pakistan playing for us but I'm not 100% sure now" : Mickey Arthur
Some strong comments from Micky Arthur in the end of day press conference yesterday, but the one in the Thread title really stuck out for me.
Putting the batsmen in the team on notice that the Top 6 will need to be addressed before our next Test series and also sending a clear message to the batsmen in the domestic circuit - namely Fawad Alam - that there is still a chance for them in the Test arena.
Micky is someone who has always worn his heart on his sleeve and his emotions are very clear for everyone to see, and in my opinion its great to see him being so open and honest.
Micky went onto admit that he tactically messed up by not giving Asghar a chance in the Dubai Test match, which again is refreshing to see someone owing up to their mistake. Micky also admitted that if the second spinner we had at our disposal was Saeed Ajmal it would be a no brainer, however, the 2nd spinners we have are younger and inexperienced guys.
We knew there would be a period of uncertainty after YK and Misbah retire, however, the question now is - what happens going forward? What will our Top 6 be for the next Test? Does Azhar open, with Haris coming in at 3? Is there space for Fawad in this batting line up? Will Micky have the confidence of selecting a young second spinner if the conditions dictate so?
Interesting times ahead for Micky and the Test team.
