What's new

Thoughts on Josh Hazlewood?

That new tattoo that Johnson has looks awesome!

And don't worry too much about Hazlewood. Moises Henriques was apparently the next big Aussie thing, and he was utter crap at international level.

He's nothing special! Only has a bit of pace nothing else, just because he is an aussie player hype is created. :aamir beats him in every facet of the game by a long way. p.s. :aamir is younger as well.

is he the one bowling in the u-19 wc? if so, i remember him getting bounce at around 88mph. he's a real prospect. he looked miles better than any other fast bowler in the tournament.

can't understimate any aussie player. they are beasts. they have so much bench strength its ridiculous. they could probably sport 2 or 3 international quality teams.

Just because our cricketers happen to be good at playing cricket?

You are dreaming if you seriously think he is nothing special. He is talked about as a player who will lead our bowling attack for ten years.

Surprised they called him up this early but he is a huge prospect for us. Good luck to him.

Have to remember our players, unlike Pakistan players, do not come into cricket fully formed. Moises is young and will be given time. He is not ready for international exposure though.

I have to agree with you RA ,

having played GRADE A in NSW , i can easily make a statement that an average Club cricketer in Aussie Land is more professional and focus than Pakistani International Cricketers But talent wise, given the conditions Pakistani Cricketers play in , Pakistani's are definitly more talented but RAW ;-)

You must be quite good at cricket PP.

No doubt Pakistan produces the raw talents, that is the only reason you can compete despite the horrendous PCB and team infighting.

Agree , if there are proper facilities in Pakistan like we have here in Australia, Pakistan Would be SUPER POWER of cricket but unfortunatlu its not possible in next 100 years.

Josh Hazlewood [Watch thread]

Young Aussie medium pacer just takes a Pfifer against Proteas. One to look out for in the upcoming tri-series and maybe world cup as well. :13:

Looks like a more than decent bowler for Aus/SA conditions!

Its always annoying when teams come up with new bowlers just before the world cup. Hope he doesn't cause much damage with his mystery factor.

Where is Convict? I put my hand up mate - you called it right about Coulter-Nile (first game) and Hazlewood (this game)!

Though Coulter-Nile did get a flogging today

He is remarkably similar to Ehsan Adil.

You need to shine that diamond - he might not be well-suited to the UAE, but he will take buckets of wickets outside Asia.

Bit of a trundler but,i can see Rohit Sharma eating him for breakfast in India.

Hazlewood and Coulter-Nile are both average. The WACA makes every bowler look like Curtley; Hazlewood hasn't got the skills in the air to get international batsmen out yet.

It's time for him to play tests.

Offers more than Siddle

He's been close before but always got injured. His height could be a good balance with Johnson and Harris. Our other pace hopes like Starc and Cummins are more quick and flashy. Decent to have a new workhorse amongst them now.

His name has been mentioned in hushed tones for quite a while now. I hope he is the real deal.

looks great prospect for ODIs.Not sure about Tests yet

He's ready for Tests. Unlike Pattinson/Starc/Cummins, Hazelwood actually plays domestic cricket and is quite good at it in between injuries. I'd bring him in for Siddle at the Gabba. He's class, you can see it.

Very similar to Mcgrath. Great bowling acumen as well. With a healthy Harris, Johnson and Hazlewood will be too much for India.

Pretty ordinary looking but I like his name though, sounds like chocolate.

Action looks exactly like McGrath. Also looks like got some good yorkers.

We will send this Aussie trundler back to the woods if the Aussie dare play him against us. A nothing bowler #BleedBlue

Why is he being called a trundler? He is tall, bowls 135-142,gets good bounce, can swing the ball too

His performance in the shield final last year was what I'd expect of a test bowler.

When youre used to seeing imran, wasim, waqar & shoaib everyone else is a trundler

Hope someone like Ehsan Adil can emulate him.

Also, no offence, but the Shaun Tait comparison in the OP is just lol-worthy.

Line-length wise similar to Mcgrath.. However swinging skill which made Mcgrath so deadly isn't there..

McGrath was capable of swinging the ball a bit but generally didn't.

Hazlewood has always done it more and has at times been a bit too reliant on new ball swing and not doing enough in later spells.

He's improved a lot at that and was rewarded with test selection.

Not great game reading skills if u think that Hazelwood is ordinary.

Is almost mcgrath like and time will show

I'm talking about his looks here, not bowling. Hence the 'name sounds like chocolate' comment.

He's not bad, but I don't consider him to be in the same class as Starc, Cummins or even Pattinson ability wise. However, the latter can't play 3-4 matches on the trot so they are out of the equation.

Please don't insult one of the top 3 pacers of all time by comparing him to someone with less than 10 Tests to his name.

This how I rate current Australian bowlers on potential:

Harris
Starc
Cummins
Johnson
Pattinson
Hazlewood
Siddle

Don't agree with Chris all the time but I enjoy reading his views:

1) Warner is already a better Test batsman than Sehwag because he averages 90 over 3 Tests in South Africa

2) Holding is not an ATG

3) Sobers is overrated

4) McGrath swung the ball

:asif

Have changed my opinion of Sobers.. Rest remains unchanged for now.. McGrath was a seam bowler primarily but he did employ swing from time to time.. Op said he didn't swing

First he didn't swing.. Then he "swung odd ball" . Are you sure you don't wanna change something this time around ??

Do read what you said previously.

You're indicating it was 'swing' which made Mcgrath so deadly when in reality Mcgrath was a seam bowler and swinging the odd ball does not make you a deadly swing bowler.

But obviously Chrish knows better.:srini

Hum.. It was op who said "odd ball" not me.. A reference to his comment

Terrific prospect. Accurate and moves the ball both ways and at a rather decent pace as well. Something about him reminds me of Stuart Clark. But Hazlewood is obviously better.

He will be the leading wicket taker against Pakistan next year.

Josh is in the mold of Stuart Clark than mcgrath.. accurate wicket taker. But nothing special about him! I'll reserve my judgement on him after he performs on graveyards of India,UAE and Lanka

Well his action aint that rewarding as McGrath's! Hazlewood's action kills some of his momentum! But still he is taking wickets! Lets see if he can continue this! But I highly doubt it!
