Three people have been killed and three others injured after a gunman opened fire in Paris.

A man, 69, has been arrested in connection with the shooting at a local Kurdish cultural centre, the prosecutor's department in the French capital said.

The French government asked police to reinforce the protection of Kurdish community sites in the country following the deadly attack.

Also this afternoon, protesters clashed with French police on Friday afternoon during a demonstration near the shooting scene in the Rue d'Enghien.

The prosecutor's office said the suspect had a prior police record, including an arrest for attacking migrants living in tents a year ago, before adding investigators would examine a "possible racist element" behind the attack.

The man was also wounded "in the face" during in the incident and is being treated in hospital, according to district mayor Alexandra Cordebard.

A lawyer for the Kurdish Community Centre said all three people killed in the shooting were members of the Kurdish community.

French interior minister Gerald Darmanin said the suspect is a French national and known by authorities, but not in the context of political extremism, and was not known to the secret service.

He added the "exact motives" of the attacker are so far unknown, and "as things stand" he acted alone.

The shooting took place at midday local time at a Kurdish cultural centre and a restaurant and hairdresser nearby, district mayor Ms Cordebard said.

Officers cordon off area

Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau said three victims of the shooting had died, while one is in critical condition and two others are in hospital with less serious injuries.

Police officers cordoned off the area on a busy street with shops and restaurants near the Gare de l'Est train station, and urged people to stay away.

Antiterrorism prosecutors said they are investigating the shooting but have not indicated any sign of a terrorist motive.

Paris Shooter Was "Clearly Targeting Foreigners": France Interior Minister

A 69-year-old gunman who opened fire at a Kurdish cultural centre and a hairdressing salon in Paris on Friday was deliberately seeking out foreigners, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said.

The man, a retired train driver, "was clearly targeting foreigners", Darmanin told reporters, adding however that it was "not certain" that the man was aiming to kill "Kurds in particular".

Paris Shooter Was Previously Charged With Racist Violence, Says Prosecutor

A 69-year-old gunman who opened fire at a Kurdish cultural centre and a hairdressing salon in central Paris on Friday had previously been charged with racist violence, a prosecutor said.

He was suspected of attacking at least two migrants with a knife in a Paris camp on December 8, 2021, Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau told reporters.

In that attack the Frenchman, a retired train driver, was also believed to have damaged several tents in the migrant camp located at the Bercy park in eastern Paris, she said.

He was subsequently charged with premeditated armed violence with a racist motive, and placed in detention, the prosecutor said, adding that the man had been released only recently.

She said the question of whether Friday's attack was motivated by racism "will obviously form part of our investigations which are starting now with the deployment of large numbers of people," she said.

Three people died Friday after the shooting in a central district of the French capital, with three others injured.

Whatever reason why int media is not calling him terrorist or headlines like terrorist attacked ?

He is not from a certain faith.

This was an act of terrorism, by any definition.

France as a nation has been spreading hate towards Muslims for years now, at a level no other nation has done.

France is a secular extremist nation, one in decline which will only lead to more hatred.

This is why I always attack Islamophobes because indirectly contributing to such hate which leads to murder. Its sickening there are so called Muslims who also parrot their propaganda while putting their own family members in danger.

I see! He was just a "gunman" not a "terrorist". Had it been a Muslim we know how the media wold have reacted. As the victims were most likely Muslim's it vindicates him even more. Good thing is some white people are now asking why are people of other faith's, no faith or white people never called "terrorists". Can any white person here answer that?

Because what you are saying is false, completely made up and no truth to it. Can't you wake up for one day and not play the race card.

France is one of the most Islamophobe nations in the world, so this attack isn't a surprise.

What exactly is false? Please elaborate on this. I never play the race card at all but call a spade a spade.

A 69-year-old white French gunman who opened fire at a Kurdish cultural centre in Paris killing three people told investigators he was racist, a source close to the case said on Saturday.

Violence has broken out in central Paris after Friday's deadly attack on the city's Kurdish community.

Protesters overturned cars, setting some on fire, and hurled objects at police. Officers responded by firing tear gas.

Three people were killed in Friday's attack, which took place at a Kurdish cultural centre and a restaurant.

The 69-year-old white male suspect said afterwards he was a racist who hated foreigners, a police source told AFP.

The same news agency was told that the man launched his attack with a "much-used" pistol and was found with a box of at least 25 cartridges and "two or three" loaded magazines.

Unrest began soon after the shootings. Footage showed people starting fires in the middle of the street and smashing car windows.

Utter failure of forceful multiculturalism has unfolded many times in the past and it will continue to unfold in the future too.

Forceful integration will never work between communities that have nothing in common other than the fact that both are humans.

I think France should hand over this 69-year old racist trash to this mob. Let them handle him.

I'am not a white guy but here is the reason why the world doesn't look at it the way you want it to be seen: It comes down to track record that goes back decades. So in order for the world to view this in the same manner as it does when it comes to Muslims, it will take many many more high profile events like these for that narrative to take hold. Afterall the number of Islamic organizations that have openly declared war against the West/Unbelievers is pretty large which you cannot deny.

If you think this is not the case and just a matter of "White Privilege" then ask yourselves why Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis Jews Mormons etc get the same consideration when most of them are largely not White.

Another thought exercise: Imagine a tragedy like the 9/11 were to have happened in Pakistan targeting Muslims lets assume for sake of simplicity that it was headed by a evil Hindu extremists. What would happen to the Minority Hindu population in Pakistan according to you ?

Robbery At Home Triggered "Hatred Of Foreigners": Paris Shooting Suspect

A French man suspected of killing three Kurds in Paris has confessed to a "pathological" hatred for foreigners, Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau said on Sunday.

The 69-year-old man was removed from custody for health reasons on Saturday and taken to a police psychiatric facility.

Mr Beccuau said in a statement that the suspect was "depressive" and "suicidal" and said he "wanted to kill foreigners" after a robbery in his home in 2016.

The shooting at a Kurdish cultural centre and a nearby hairdressing salon on Friday sparked panic in the city's bustling 10th district, home to several shops and restaurants and a large Kurdish population.

Three others were wounded in the attack.

The suspect said he initially wanted to kill people in the northern Paris suburb of Seine-Saint-Denis, which has a large immigrant population, before deciding to go to the 10th district instead.

The shooting has revived the trauma of three unresolved murders of Kurds in 2013 that many blame on Turkey.

Many in the Kurdish community have expressed anger at the French security services, saying they had done too little to prevent the shooting.

The frustration boiled over on Saturday and furious demonstrators clashed with police in central Paris for a second day running after a tribute rally.

The capital's police chief Laurent Nunez told BFM television channel on Saturday that 31 officers and one protester were injured in the disturbances, while 11 people were arrested, "mainly for damage".

The suspect -- named as William M. by French media -- is a gun enthusiast with a history of weapons offences who had been released on bail earlier this month.

The retired train driver was convicted for armed violence in 2016 by a court in Seine-Saint-Denis, but appealed.

A year later he was convicted for illegally possessing a firearm.

Last year, he was charged with racist violence after allegedly stabbing migrants and slashing their tents with a sword in a park in eastern Paris.

'He's an idiot'

"He is crazy, he's an idiot," his father was quoted as saying by the M6 television channel.

Often described as the world's largest people without a state, the Kurds are a Muslim ethnic group spread across Syria, Turkey, Iraq and Iran.

Meanwhile, a top aide to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan blamed the street unrest that gripped Paris following the killing on outlawed PKK militants.

"This is PKK in France," President Erdogan's foreign policy adviser Ibrahim Kalin tweeted, posting images of overturned and burning cars in Paris.

"The same terrorist organisation you support in Syria," he wrote in apparent reference to the YPG.

The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) is designated as a terrorist organisation by Turkey and its Western allies.

Ankara has been feuding with the United States and European powers about their support for Kurdish fighters in the People's Protection Units (YPG) militia, which it says is the Syrian offshoot of the PKK.

The YPG played a central role in the US-led campaign against Islamic State group jihadists in Syria. It is not proscribed as a terrorist group by either the United States or the European Union -- an issue of constant tension in their relations with NATO member Turkey.

Some of the people who joined the subsequent protests chanted slogans mentioning the PKK.

Why take the track record back by decades to suit the west instead of overall? When did these Islamic organisations or it's members attack any western country with millions of soldiers like the west did Iraq and Afghanistan? Where are the WMD in Iraq we were told about? Now you are reallyopening up an ugly can of worms.

"If you think this is not the case and just a matter of "White Privilege" then ask yourselves why Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis Jews Mormons etc get the same consideration when most of them are largely not White." You will have to come again on this one! As far as i understand you it is because the religions you mentioned are not sitting on gas, oil or other reserves that the west wants to takeover. People from the religions you mentioned are from dirt poor India that is happy to be slave of the west in every way.

Firstly I don't believe in the official version of 9/11 at all. Pak has suffered many more terrorist attacks then any other country including the USA since 9/11. Now Pak often accuses Hindu majority India of being behind them yet Hindu's in Pak are never targeted as being responsible.

Pakistan are not a danger to US or it’s allies. Pakistan had its importance when US was in Afghanistan. Now Pakistan serves no purpose for US.

Good! This means we get a clear break from the American's as well. Israel does see Pak as a danger but we are not gonna fight them to please the Arab's. The American's are still uncomfortable with a nuclear Pakistan.

Another attack in Paris.

Several Wounded In Knife Attack At Paris Train Station

Several people were lightly wounded on Wednesday by a man wielding a knife at the busy Gare du Nord station in Paris, French authorities said.

The man was arrested by police at the station, which serves as a hub for trains to London and northern Europe, after they opened fire and wounded him, said a police source, who asked not to be named.

"An individual injured several people this morning at the Gare du Nord," Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin wrote on Twitter.

"He was quickly neutralised. Thank you to the police for their effective and courageous response."

The incident has cased major delays to trains at the station in the early morning rush, according to the live departure board of operator SNCF.

The attacker's motive was not immediately clear. France remains on a state of heightened security alert after a spate of deadly attacks by Islamist radicals since 2015.
