308 runs in 3 matches for Saud in the ongoing QeA20.
Compare that to Asad on 187 in same number of games.
So why not simply give Asad's role to Saud? Worth a try if we wish to move on and get some newer/better players in.

Based on the table why not give it to Hussain Talat? Adds a bowling option too.
Saud doesn’t have that oomph in him. The X factor is missing.
Yes something which azhar and asad shafiq have.

Obviously having more of Asad Shafiqs and Azhar Alis is good for the future of Pakistan. Am I right?
I Am thinking similar types of players - consolidators?
I would much rather have a player that can take the game on at number 6 and bump Rizwan up to 5. So rizwan, hussain, shadab, yasser. This is only if Rizwan continues to play well and spend time at the crease consistently. Otherwise still, hussain, rizwan, shadab looks better than the current state esp because we never take 4 pacers and in swinging conditions a 4th medium pacer can be very useful, vs a yasir or shadab going at 4- 5 an over
Misbah wont take a risk...he knows he will get battered in kiwi land anyways..
Talat is defo an good idea useful bowler on those conditions and saud should go with shaheens and if needed can easily come to to test team from there
I was being sarcastic. Want both of them gone.

At 33 he will be too young for a debut. Needs to be atleast 38. Then Misbah will bring youngsta beauty.Saud Shakeel needs to be wasted for another 7/8 years before he's selected. By this time Azhar and Shafiq may have decided to retire although Misbah would be gutted.
Shakeel can then make his debut at the age of 33.
High time ....but not ideal place....home test series v BD n SL were best series and it would be better 2 give him debut in a home series.....

I would give Asad's place to Fawad Alam and bring in Hussain Talat as a batting all rounder at number . . again not sure where Hussain's bowling is at these days, but if he is where he was at . . then he could be a decent 4th seamer . . especially in places like NZ . . clearly, his batting is looking in decent order . . Fawad deserves to be given a proper run!
Saud Shakeel can be brought into the squad to ensure there's competition for places . .
My team in NZ would be:
Abid
Shan
Azhar
Babar
Fawad
Hussain Talat
Rizwan
Shadab
Shaheen
Naseem
Abbas
Yes send him to New Zealand.
However Azhar Ali would rather jump off Minar-e-Pakistan than part with his beloved buddy Shafiq.
Yes something which azhar and asad shafiq have.
If Saud is picked for PAK A in NZL, I guess it’ll be another scam - basically giving the guy bones to stop barking ......
He averages 48 in FC, this season 3rd in run scorers list, fourth on average table, has scored the best hundred of the domestic season by some margin ... and he looks like a peacock with his footwork, timing, placement and top-hand touches among crows with stagnant feet and bottom hand butchery - if the coaching/scouting staffs can’t recognise a batsman from the looks of it, don’t think they can ignore numbers at least.
He is been playing in age group, A team, emerging team cricket for like 10 years now - no more mockery. He should debut on the first Test in NZ or think for another career. After this innings, if he is not picked for Test debut, I don’t think he’ll make it in future - they’ll always find an excuse. Ideally, PAK should open with Azhar, play Saud at 3 & Haris at 5, May be Asad at 6 one for the last time (Or Talat, why not, he is in form of his life) and four pacers (no Shadab - Haris & Saud can provide enough spin coverage for NZ conditions) .....but then again, the formula I am suggesting is Shan-Azhar opening pair, means nephew misses out - not happening.
Hussain Talat deserved a call up before anyone else. The guy has been in tremendous form in both the T20 cup and now QeA.
I like Shadab but i think his bowling isn't right for the longer format and so i would like to opt for Numan Ali who's done well for the last 2 season now or Zafar Gohar, we must remember though that a spinner can be old look at Zulifiqar.
1. Abid (not impressed but should still be given a chance)
2. Shan
3. Babar Azam
4. Azhar (not impressed and feel he's not done enough)
5. Fawad
6. Talat
7. Rizwan
8. Numan Ali/Zafar Gohar
9. Muhammad Abbas
10. Taj Wali/Naseem/Muhammad Umar
11. Shaheen Afridi
Imam isn't in the first choice starting XI to begin with . . It's going to be Shan and Abid barring any injuries! that seals the top 4 . .
Harris can go head to head with Fawad! I think Fawad should be given a proper run . . Harris will hve to wait his turn . . though I am a big fan of his batting, but we can't play him when he is injured in every other series . . so I am okay with him being in the squad, he wouldn't be in the starting XI for that first test . .
that leaves number Asad . . I'd play Hussain Talat instead of him just because in NZ he could be a useful bowler! and he sure as hell won't do worse than Asad has been doing with the bat in the last few series (esp away from home) . .
Rizwan at 7
That is a terrible batting line up. Really nothing there apart from Babar. The following is our best bet going forward:
Imam
Shan
Abdullah Shafiq
Babar Azam
Haris Sohail
Saud Shakeel
Rizwan
He should have played a couple of years ago and by now he would have been an established Test batsman.
But as usual we've stuck with a tried and tested failure.

With Azhar getting axed, Shafiq could finally be put out of his misery.
The good news is that he is definitely closer to getting dropped than he was 2 years ago, and that is when the plug should have been pulled on his sorry career.
A poor Nz series can bring an abrupt end to Misbah's coaching career too
Should have been selected in place of Fawad Alam to join the England biosecure bubble.
Saud will be selected at the age of 33 when another performing 24 year old should be selected instead.

He is from Karachi obviously he won't be selected.
Really shocking that he couldn't even find a spot in Shaheens squad. If space in squad was issue, I would have picked him even above Fawad Alam or Danish Aziz or Imran Butt or even Fakhar, or even dropping one of the bowlers that keep going for free rides with nothing performance like Musa and Faheem.
I guess it was a toss up between Saud and Imran Butt and Imran got the vote.
I guess it was a toss up between Saud and Imran Butt and Imran got the vote.
I don’t think so, to be honest. I might be wrong, but the way Saud got a special mention, it means he wasn’t in the original 45-man squad and if he was, he would have been selected in the final 35 based on his recent performances. Meanwhile, Imran Butt was in the original 45-person squad and his recent performances for Balochistan have helped him confirm the spot.
Considering that they’re both contending for different positions, it seems that at the time of deciding the 45-person shortlist, Saud was compared to other middle order options and since there are just 2 four-day matches and 6 T20 matches, especially in light of the recent National T20 tournament, they passed Saud up for T20 middle order batsmen Hussain Talat and Danish Aziz.
The real issue is that they gave T20 matches way too much priority for some pretty serious four-day selections - that’s my guess.
I agree. I think the way selections are going the only way to get noticed is performance in national t20 or psl. Forget batsmen even test match bowlers have been selected after little bit of psl performance instead of first class record for example Musa in last whole year.
I know this thread is all about the negativity and anger . .
But Saud Shakeel will do well to look at Fawad's trajectory . . and I am sure Saud won't have to go through the same hardship as Fawad . .
If I were Saud, I'd be looking at it the following way:
1. NZ is a very tough place to bat and Pakistan's recent performances have shown that as well . . the batters may not have a great time .. Azhar Ali's time is coming to an end . . Harris Sohail is very iffy . . one series in, one series out . . Asad Shafiq is gone . . there is a potential spot for him in the team . . he is on the brink
2. He needs to ensure he has a bumper QEA! He has had a good start . . he needs to pad it up with some more amazing numbers/innings! I am sure he will be in the team very soon . .
The last thing he can afford is for him to get disheartened and performances to drop!
We've got test matches coming up against SA at home . . if he continues to do well, I see him being part of that squad!
