Just 2 List A hundreds which is understandable as he does come in late but the form he is in at the moment, its criminal to make him wait this long

Should he not be promoted above the likes of Shoaib Malik and/or Mohammad Hafeez?

His List A average is the same as Umar Akmal and better than Asif Ali.

But if Imad is promoted up the order who will bat at 7? Shadab isn't good enough to bat 7, he's more of a number 8 bowler who can hold his own with the bat.

Faheem never developed his batting otherwise Imad at 6, Faheem at 7 and Shadab at 8 would have been ideal.

If we go with our standard / best XI:

Fakhar, Imam, Babar, Haris, Sarfraz, Hafeez, Imad, Shadab, Hasan, Shaheen, Junaid/Hasnain/Amir

I think Imad can move up and Sarfraz can drop down to 7.

big tournament coming up, plenty of games to warm up, in form, should bat at six, but we know hes not senior enough to replace malik....

he warrants his place in the team on his batting, his odi bowling although controlled is not penetrative enough to warrant ten overs if pak are pinning hopes on bowling winning them the WC

Just use him in the slogger slot that we usually give to Asif One Six Per Innings Ali and add an extra fast bowler.

Should bat at 6, because this gives Pak the luxury to play an extra bowler or an all-rounder.

1) Fakhar Zaman
2) Abid Ali/Imam ul Haq
3) Babar Azam
4) Haris Sohail
5) Sarfraz Ahmad
6) Imad Wasim
7) Shadab Khan
8) Fahim Ashraf
9) Hasan Ali
10) Muhammad Amir/Hasnain
11) Shaheen Shah Afridi

This would be mine lineup post-WC when Hafeez and Malik retire.

And in case of Sarfraz gets dropped I’d slot in Sharjeel Khan/Asif Ali at 5.

That makes space for Asif at 7!

Can be promoted dependent on the situation but he is fine at his current position.

Well after the ENG tour of 2016 in a normal world it would have been bye bye S. Malik with Imad batting in the top 6.

By now Imad would have been a regular in the top 6. Instead 3 years later we still keep playing Malik!

He’s 10x the batsman our captain can ever hope to be in his current state.

Only bring him up if needed. If not needed then keep him where he is so we can get a quick 40 off 20 from him near the end.

When did he ever struck a winning 40 from 20 balls?

He should bat in the top 6 and Malik needs to sit out.

Didn't say winning anywhere in that post. Just said that he can be used as a fast run scorer near the end of the innings if the batting is doing well. If not then let him bat at no.6.

Looking at the standard of bowling, I would not read too much into it, but the same weak team did not treat our Shah Jee well.

Imad has batted only twice while chasing in 13 won ODIs.

In other 10 won ODIs when batting first, he has a very decent record (at #7/#8) with a S/R @100.

In 9 lost matches while batting first, he has done very well - specially in most cases when the top order must ave failed - a S/R of 127 in excellent;

Lastly, in 2nd innings of the 9 lost matches his record is worst;

I would swap his position with Sarfraz for a few matches in the series against England and see what happens.

What annoys me is that we were 150 odd for 5 against this pinky ponk bowling attack and we needed an extraordinary knock from Imad to get out of jail.

Isn't that expected when you have shoaib and Sarfaraz in your team? Did you see the shot sarfaraz got out on?

Number 5 for sure.

Needs to back himself and play the Morgan role for Pakistan

Fakhar
Abid/Imam
Babar
Harris
Imad
Hafeez
Sarfaraz
Faheem
Shadab
Hassan
Shaheen
Husnain

I think, Imad is good for the role of No. 7-8 - don't think he'll be better as No. 4-5 (6 is in between both). One mistake that we tend to do is judge a batsman on stats for a particular position, then expect him to deliver at other spot - which will never work. ODI batting strategy is highly position dependent and the skill set required for different position is different.

Imad at 6 and Aamir Yamin at 7 would have been a neat addition.

Even Anwar Ali but Anwar Ali's bowling has regressed at an alarming rate... He was only bowling at 101-109 kph in the PSL

He is batting well but.. he is an all-rounder and should bat at 7 and should be promoted depending on situation. As for no.6 we should develop a good batsman

his skills and luck is only good in his current position. don't fool around with any of that. Don't fix something which ain't broken.

Imad Wasim is going to cost us many many matches if we continue to play him down the order.

Why?

Because he cannot hit the bowlers or accelerate at will when the required run rate is increasing and few overs left.

Just like he showed us in the Aus series. Many others.

He does try to slog but he's not a natural hitter or timer. Just doesn't have the ability.

What's the solution?

Play him up the order! His 100 sr batting can actually help us if he comes at 4. Good SR for that position.

But it's going to lose us countless matches if he comes at 6 or 7 or 8.

TBH whenever I've seen Imad play up the order. He dosen't perform the way he does when he comes down the order and besides we have plenty of top order batsman. If he dosen't play at no. 7, who else will?

He has something about him. He fights. If you look at the last game vs Australia. He tried his best to get Pakistan a victory, even though it was looking impossible.

He is a risk taker. We don't have many in our team

THis kent bowling lineup was below average to say the least , lets see how he does against eng;and side.

Watch his innings vs ENG on the 2016 UK tour. He is very much capable at no 4 or 5 had they given him some time. But no Malik was there of course.

You had to refer an innings almost 3 years back, which probably tells lot about his batting. Anyway, No. 4-5 needs different set of skills which I don’t think he has, but if he can do it, why not? This 4-5-6 of Hafeez, Sarfraz, Malik doesn’t give much confidence.

He isn't perfect but is the closest thing to a finisher Pakistan have in their set up, Asif Ali can be considered for that role to but he is very inconsistent ; I agree Imad's position should not be changed. Apart from Ali and Imad is there anyone else capable of playing a sort of Abdul Razzaq role at the end? am not sure

People are taking this match too seriously. It was against a second string Kent side. Only talk after the eng series.

Well how many times has he batted at no 4 or 5 for PAK?

3 years back was the right time to have that implemented.

Not really, did you not see how he has played recently?

His T20 batting stats..... average of 12 and S/R of 154.

This is how Imad should handle the short balls.

I was hoping he'd play this shot yesterday.

Also should have promoted Imad to 5 instead of Haris.

I remember a couple of series ago he played very well with the bat and got a lot of fifities in that series. May be a better no 6 choice than asif who u can leave for last over impeteus. Might also allow management to drop Imam and play Malik and Hafeez.

His innings yesterday was not very intelligent. Pretty much a blind person knew what was going to be bowled to him. He played an afridi like shot. he should give himself more time.

Yes he needs time before he is able to strike big , unlike Asif who can strike from ball 1

Pakistan should have finalised there 15 one year back , and started working on certain skills . For eg : why not give Fakhar and Harris more bowling in match situations , that way they could be good to bowl 4 - 5 overs a game.

Imad and Shadab could have both being promoted up the order in live games , and that would have improved there batting,. After that they would have been better position to get in different combos for different games.
