Time to sack Misbah-ul-Haq and Azhar Ali!

One of the rare Mamoon posts I wholeheartedly agree with. This is the end result of giving Misbah ul Haq so much power and authority in Pakistan Cricket for the last ten years. Azhar Ali was appointed as captain on his recommendation in 2015 and now in 2019. Any other team would have axed Azhar a long time ago

I feel Azhar Ali was given captaincy because he is a YES man. He doesn't have the personality/guts to stand up to PCB/Misbah. He has no presence on the field. What a waste. Pakistan should have won first test match.

Azhar Ali himself chose to resign from the captaincy in 2017 as in his own words he was not good enough for the role and Sarfaraz was the better candidate and Misbah immediately retained him as captain upon taking over and the PCB blindly accepted Misbah's demands

Yeah. Hard to be motivated by a captain who himself was previously not good enough for captaincy. Lahore also sacked him in PSL for his captaincy.

Add that he's been a player in the decline, averaging less than 30 in the last three years.

Sarfraz still might be the best choice as captain, he's the only captain anyone really respects and has a record. His form was atrocious though, but now he has lost weight again, he might actually be decent again hilariously when he couldn't be bothered to lose weight before being dropped. Sarfraz is the only proper choice out of the experienced guys otherwise we have to take a gamble on a younger/inexperienced player.

I'm interested to see how Shan might work out. I dunno how long he'd be in the team for, but he is right now, and might be a decent stop gap regardless until Babar has developed as a test player enough to take on the test captaincy too. And he did at least have a decent outing as captain in PSL which involves international players and pressure surroundings. But we're scrapping bottom of the barrel here, captaincy options are very slim. But even then no way would i select Azhar.

Misbah was the worst ODI player to play for Pakistan. The most defensive and inept player I have ever seen. He has carried on his cowardice to his coaching job.

The decision to bring back umar akmal and ahmed shahzad for SL T20's sealed it for me. He is downright atrocious.
Very soon we could be playing likes of Nepal to qualify for ICC events.

That’s the problem. I can’t seem to pick any XI that would be remotely good. You throw these players out and the alternatives are going to be equally bad if not worse.

Realistically, you could bring Haris back to shore up the middle-order. Talent wise he is right up there with Babar, but he has no hunger to succeed and is willingly throwing his career away.

I might be tempted to bring Sami Aslam back. Yes he has failed so far, but if he shows a bit of guts he can be far better than talentless Masood and an over the hill Abid.

Didn't Sami Aslam top the averages in England in 2016? He averaged 54 while Misbah averaged 40.

He averages 32 in a career almost entirely outside Asia, in which he played his last test at 21.

Two things tell me of Sami Aslam's character.

He was brought back at Edgbaston in 2016 after a row between Misbah, who wanted to retain Hafeez, and Arthur and Inzamam, who wanted Sami to play.

And he scored 82 and 70.

Three Tests later at Hamilton, Pakistan needed to bat out Day 5 to draw. And Sami Aslam hit 91 in 238 balls to survive 72 overs and get them to 181-3. Only for Younis, Shafiq and Sarfraz to throw it away with the finish line in sight.

There's nothing wrong with Sami Aslam.

For a mid tier team like Pakistan, Masood is good. If he could average in the range of 32-35 with an average of 30 in overseas conditions, he would have done his job.

Braithwaite has been WI opener for a while and he averages 33 after 62 tests.

IMO both Shan and Sami should open in NZL if Abid Ali fails in the 2nd innings

You cant have wk Captain in Tests, especially who doesn’t warrant his place permanently yet. Babar Azam and Shadab Khan should be captain and vc Captains in all formats.

Not sure babar azam is ready for test captaincy yet and wk captains is what Ms dhoni was famous for

Don't forget how he then booted both out for the 3rd T20, humiliating both in the process. They're not good cricketers but they didn't deserve that sort of treatment in that series. Shameless man.

Hes had a few howlers so far hasn't he.

1. Bringing back Shezza and UA
2. Randomly selecting Qadir and then not playing him.
3. Selecting random untried bowlers for Australia tour.
4. Not picking Fawad for easy home series and throwing him in the deep end here.
5. Test squad for England tour packed with fast bowlers and then not rotating them at all.
6. Similar to his captaincy days but a complete overreliance on Yasir Shah.
