To what extent is India meddling in Balochistan?

At least two security personnel were injured in a roadside bomb that targeted their vehicle on Quetta's Sariab Road on Monday.

According to security sources, personnel on routine patrolling were targetted with an improvised explosive device (IED) planted in a parked motorbike near the Wali Jet area of the provincial capital.

After the blast, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

Meanwhile, a team of bomb disposal squad also reached the site to collect evidence and to investigate the incident.

The blast came days after over a dozen terrorists stormed security installations in Noushki and Panjgur, Balochistan.

As per the military's media wing, at least 20 assailants were killed while nine soldiers were also martyred in the attacks.

Prime Minister Imran Khan, while paying tribute to the troops who foiled attacks on security installations in Balochistan, said no acts of terror can deter the Pakistani nation from moving forward as it was very strong and resilient.

Addressing officers and jawans of the Frontier Corps and Pakistan Rangers in Nushki on Tuesday, the prime minister vowed to give a befitting response to the terrorists who were trying to hamper the pace of progress, particularly in Balochistan.

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, federal ministers and senior commanders were also present on the occasion.

The prime minister's visit comes days after the armed forces thwarted attacks by militant outfits in Nuskhi, Panjgur and Kech. According to the media wing of the Pakistan Army, at least 20 terrorists were killed in the operation at Nushki and Panjgur.

Imran said no other army had faced unprecedented challenges due to acts of terrorism, in the wake of the war in Afghanistan. He said the Pakistan army excelled in its professionalism and helped in ridding Pakistan of terrorism.

The prime minister said he was shocked to hear about the terrorist attacks in Balochistan and wanted to stand along with his troops who were waging a "jihad against the terrorists".

“Not only me, but the whole nation stands with our jawans.” The prime minister said that he especially came to Nushki to express solidarity on behalf of the countrymen with the armed forces of the country.

He said all those who sacrifice their lives have a "special place in heaven and pointed out that the martyrs have the second-highest place after prophets".

The prime minister announced a raise of 15% for the officers and men of the FC and Rangers.

The prime minister said the entire nation had a firm belief in the capability of their forces to thwart any threat of terrorism. “The entire nation has the confidence that terrorists cannot cause any harm to the country,” he maintained.

'Huge spending on uplift projects'

The prime minister said the present government was spending huge funds on the uplift of Balochistan province, undertaking a number of mega development projects which had never been undertaken by any government in the past.

Mentioning the construction of the Chaman-Quetta and Karachi Highway as the ‘biggest project’ to transform the lives of the people and conditions of the province, the prime minister said the government had already allocated funds for the project.

The PM resolved that more funds would be allocated for the development of the province in the future as the government was fully focused on the alleviation of the backwardness of certain areas, including K-P's tribal districts and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The PM said the government was determined to bring an extensive development in the coming days that no outside power would succeed in misguiding the people to destabilise the country.

The next phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would hugely benefit the people of Balochistan as it would bring industrialisation, materialise the establishment of special economic zones (SEZs), and transfer technology in the agriculture sector to help boost the country’s productivity.

He said China had been assisting Pakistan in increasing its agri-yields and expressed the confidence that soon Pakistan would be exporting agricultural produce.

Referring to the global price hike, the prime minister said it had affected all the countries of the world, even the strong economies like the US and UK had been experiencing the highest inflation after 40 years.

The prime minister said that the government was cognisant of the problems faced by the salaried class due to the price hike. Therefore, the government was fully focused on the steps to bring ease to their lives. However, the prime minister expressed that as the government’s revenues were supplemented, they would increase the salaries of the employees.

Noshki visit

Earlier in the day, army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Prime Minister Imran Khan arrived in Noshki. In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the army chief will spend a complete day with the troops.

“COAS will be given [a] detailed update on [the] security situation in the area and operational preparedness of the formation to counter terrorist activities,” it said, adding that the army chief will also “meet troops who participated in repulsing [a] terrorist attack on Feb 2.”

On Saturday, the security forces had completed the clearance operations which were launched after terrorists attacked their camps in Panjgur and Nushki districts on Wednesday evening.

At least 20 terrorists were killed during the operations while nine security personnel embraced martyrdom, the military’s media wing had added.

In Nushki, the ISPR had said, nine terrorists were killed while four security forces personnel, including an officer, embraced shahadat during the “shootout with terrorists while repulsing the attack”. In Panjgur, the security forces had repulsed the terrorist attack after an intense exchange of fire during which some terrorists fled the area, it had added.

At least one person was killed and five others severely injured on Tuesday in a grenade blast in Balochistan’s Dera Murad Jamali town.

According to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) spokesperson, a hand grenade was hurled at a bus stand by unidentified attackers in the evening.

Police teams and the bomb disposal squad reached the blast site after being informed about the incident, cordoned off the area to collect evidence.

Further investigation into the incident is currently underway.

Last week, the security forces completed the clearance operations which were launched after terrorists attacked their camps in Panjgur and Naushki districts of the province.

Twenty terrorists were killed during the operations while nine security personnel embraced martyrdom, military’s media wing, the ISPR, said in a statement.

“Both [of the] attacks were repulsed successfully by the prompt response from troops at both locations,” it said.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Imran Khan, while paying tribute to the troops who foiled attacks on security installations in Balochistan, said no acts of terror can deter the Pakistani nation from moving forward as it was very strong and resilient.

Addressing officers and jawans of the Frontier Corps and Pakistan Rangers in Nushki, the prime minister vowed to give a befitting response to the terrorists who were trying to hamper the pace of progress, particularly in Balochistan.

Three policemen were martyred while 25 people were injured in a blast near a police van at Quetta's Fatima Jinnah Road, officials said on Wednesday.

Quetta Civil Hospital Spokesperson Dr Waseem Baig confirmed the casualties, adding that the injured were being transported to the hospital for medical treatment.

TV footage showed rescue workers dousing tall flames at the site of the blast. The nature of the blast has not yet been ascertained.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo, in a statement, strongly condemned the incident. He also directed hospitals to impose an emergency and for all doctors and paramedical staff to ensure their presence.

"Cowardly terrorists targeted innocent citizens in a terrorist attack," he said. "Efforts are being made to disrupt peace in Quetta and the province under a planned and well-thought-out conspiracy."

The chief minister said terrorists and their sponsors were receiving "external support", directing the IG to submit a detailed report of the incident.

"All resources should be utilised to bring those responsible for the incident to justice," the chief minister said in his directives, also telling officials to make security arrangements in the city more effective.

Meanwhile, Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab prayed for those killed and injured in the incident. "Terrible news coming from Quetta," he said on Twitter.

yet Pakistan generals are enjoying chicken biryanis in their AC rooms what the hell they are good for just beating and locking up locals? Beat the hell them out or if needed go and do surgical strikes in India. Just to make a point if nothing else.

If india could for a missile towards Pakistan why not Pakistan could towards India.

Real actions are needed not just blame game in words

Not hard enough but as per Art of War there’s no need to indulge in proxy warfare when the politicians and military leaders of Pakistan themselves are doing a good enough of job of screwing the nation. India’s strategy since last decade or so has just been to wait and watch. There was a short while when Imran Khan gave the impression that things might just get back on track for Pakistan but he proved to be a scammer. So it’s back to playing the waiting game.

This sucks but this is geopolitics and badlapur.

You are incorrect to assume that the TTP will become dysfunctional once Americans leave Afghanistan.American withdrawal will give Afghan Taliban an upper in Afghanistan which will give the TTP ideological stimulus.Besides,Afghan Taliban will provide material and human support to the TTP.(Mullah Fazaul ullah, master mind of APS attack was appointed by top leadership of Afghan Taliban.)
Your words proved prophetic 2 years later. "Good" Talibs' are sheltering "bad" Talibs.

Pakistan's caretaker interior minister, Sarfraz Bugti, on Saturday vowed to bring to justice the suspects who killed six laborers in the country's southwestern Balochistan province.

The laborers, who belonged to the Punjab province, were killed by unidentified gunmen in an overnight raid in Balochistan's Turbat city, according to local officials.

No one immediately claimed the attack, but the mineral-rich province has for decades been plagued by a separatist insurgency and attackers have a history of targeting workers seen as outsiders in the region.

Speaking of Turbat killings, Bugti said this was an incident in which terrorists had killed innocent Pakistanis and not a Baloch had targeted any Punjabi.

I extend my sympathies and condolences to the bereaved relatives. and assure them that the state will stand by the oppressed, the minister said in a video message.

God willing, the ones who have spilled this sacred blood will not be forgiven and the state will fight them with full force.

The separatists in Balochistan are fighting what they call unfair exploitation of the province’s wealth by the federation, an allegation denied by the Pakistani state.

They have in the past targeted ethnic Punjabis and Sindhis from elsewhere in Pakistan as well as foreigners working for energy firms, whom they believe are exploiting the region’s resources.

Balochistan minister blames ‘two neighbours’ for terrorism

QUETTA/GILGIT: Days after a series of attacks targeting security forces claimed over a dozen lives across the country, the Balochistan caretaker information minister claimed two neighbouring states were involved in these terror attacks as they wanted to “blackmail” Pakistan.

On the other hand, six soldiers who embraced martyrdom in the Gwadar attack, where militants killed over a dozen Pakistan Army personnel, were laid to rest with military honours in their ancestral villages of Skardu, Shigar, Ghanche in Gilgit-Baltistan on Saturday night.

Addressing a press conference along with Quetta Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat on Sunday, caretaker minister Jan Achakzai said Pakistan was being attacked from “both sides”, but this would not weaken the resolve of the state to crush terrorism. The caretaker minister claimed six militants who were killed in the Zhob attack had Afghan identity cards in their possession, which were recovered by the security forces.

He alleged India was spreading unrest in the region and its spy agency RAW was “involved in terrorist incidents in the country”.

“We have repeatedly said that India is involved in the incidents of terrorism in the country, especially in the province of Balochistan,” he said while referring to two attacks in the past week.
