Seems this guy doesn't have a thread yet.

Running through the South Africans on his Test debut at the moment... 4/20.

Haven't been able to watch, what's the verdict? Taking out the likes of Elgar, Amla and de Kock is no joke.

Know nothing about him but an amazing spell of bowling. He is all over South Africa at the moment.

Very helpful conditions though. Might turn out to be another Bob Massie if England media hype him up as the God of Fast bowling already and he loses focus to fall back as fast as he got up. Seems ok though.

Decent spell- not express (hovering between 80-83mph) but he is hitting a length and is being rewarded in helpful bowling conditions (very overcast). A couple of loose shots by Kuhn and QdK, but the delivery to Amla was brilliant.

Too early to make a call on him, but tbh he should have played at Lord's (which is his home ground).

I wouldn't call him a "pacer" as he's at about 84 mph.

Good start but there will be harder days ahead for him.

Nice to see possible replacements for Anderson emerging.

Anyone see some similarity in run up/action to Angus Fraser?

Was about to say the same.

Will be a decent option in home conditions favourable to swing/seam but don't see him doing much outside England on flatter pitches.

Impressive debut, but they've called him up at the age of 29, which isn't ideal for a seamer. However, he doesn't seem particularly reliant on pace, therefore, he might be of use for several years assuming he has the skill and adaptability.

did really well at exploiting favourable conditions. Jury is out to see if he can do it when its a bit tougher.

Don't think he'll really do well outside England and maybe South Africa. His 80 MPH deliveries can't do much of there is no side to side movement. It would be a big mistake if England take him to Australia, he'll get hammered by Warner.

I'd say, take Jake Ball or Steven Finn instead.

Good start but his true test is outside of England and when there isn't any lateral movement on offer.

I agree with all of the comments above. There are bigger Tests around the world to come for him. HOWEVER that was the best debut bowling innings by an England paceman in a very long time. And not against shabby batsmen either. TRJ was all over De Kock and got the better of his aggressive instincts, and of course the ball to dismiss Amla was a gazumper.

I think he will be a very decent bowler for England in English conditions.

He hits the seam regularly and keeps it in a simple corridor of uncertainty. Plus his height means he will get bounce as well.

Pace and age is not on his side but he will do well I reckon at home for England. But it will be a much bigger test Outside his comfort zone where he will not get much assistance.

They should give him a good run now though. He deserves it after his dream start.

Haven't watched him but sounds like a typical English conditions bowler that will have a 10-20 test career.

Batting average is 48 and bowling average is 11.

Should just announce his retirement now and will be the best all-rounder ever. :)

ROLAND-JONES RULED OUT OF REMAINDER OF DOMESTIC SEASON WITH STRESS FRACTURE

Middlesex Cricket are extremely disappointed to announce that the result of the medical scan which Toby undertook yesterday has revealed that he has a stress fracture in his L5 vertebra (lower back), which will mean that he will take no further part in the domestic season for Middlesex.

All at Middlesex Cricket wish Toby a speedy recovery.

Blessing in disguise for England, be wouldn't have been successful on Aussie tracks, except the DN match.

England pacer Toby Roland-Jones to sit out of 2018 season due to stress fracture

Toby Roland-Jones made an impressive start to his international career taking 17 wickets in four Tests against South Africa and West Indies at an average of 19.64 in 2017.

England and Middlesex seamer Toby Roland-Jones has been ruled out for the rest of the 2018 season after suffering a recurrence of a stress fracture to his back, the county announced on Thursday. The 30-year-old made an impressive start to his international career last year, taking 17 wickets in four Tests against South Africa and the West Indies at an average of 19.64.

Roland-Jones suffered soreness in his back during the recent game at Derbyshire, which ruled him out of bowling in the second half of the match. Scans confirmed a recurrence of the stress fracture he suffered in September.

"Everybody at the club is devastated for Toby and our immediate thoughts are with him, and that he makes a full recovery," said Middlesex managing director of cricket Angus Fraser.

"I know how frustrating it can be to miss a summer of cricket through injury, having been through this myself on two occasions. The ray of light is that you do recover and you do come back stronger and even more determined," concluded Fraser.

Hardly bowled in the last Middlesex match.

Wish he had been available in NZ.

His test bowling average is 19. This makes him better than Truman, Lillee, Marshall, Wasim, everyone! Those old era players are overrated. The games was not professional then. Wasim didn’t even play T20, so you can’t call him a good bowler.

There is no way that Anderson and Broad can bowl in every Test match this summer at their combined age, and “everyone else” is injured.

A potential way back in here for Toby.

I’d pick Jimmy on seamers, while Woakes is injured. But swap him in and out with TRJ by all means especially if ENG win this match.
