So what are your 5 favorite superhero movies of all time mine would have to be the following -

1. The Dark Knight This movie just brings back memories I remember when I was a young kid and went to watch this movie with my family in theaters I absolutely loved Batman and still do, it is one of the few DC movies I like. Therefore it is my all time favorite movie and I don't think that will ever change. It's not only my favorite superhero movie but probably my favorite movie ever!

2. The Avengers
This movie was another one I watched in theaters like lots of other Marvel movies. The movies was quite unique and I didn't know what to expect from it, but when I sat down and watched this movie it was amazing no other movie ever got me so drawn into emotion other than The Dark knight.

3. Doctor Strange
I didn't know what was happening in the first 15-20 minutes of the movie but my word this movie was amazing and I absolutely loved it. The way Doctor Strange transforms from an arrogant guy to a Hero is amazing to see loved this movie and it's quite new as well.

4. Captain America: Civil War
This movie was a killer absolutely amazing to have such a big cast and not make anyone seem irrelevant was genius. I must say the way the Avengers fell apart was quite heartbreaking it was an amazing movie till the end. I hope Captain America remains Captain America because rumors are him dropping the shield at the end of the movie is a signal to him dropping that gimmick. I sure hope not because he is one of my favorite super heroes.

5. Batman Begins
Yep another DC Comics Movie. I didn't watch this movie until just recently and I have to say it was amazing. It was no where near the Dark Knight but for a series starter this was something special and I couldn't leave it out.

Well that's my top 5 had to skip some amazing films since I could only put 5, I didn't really know which Captain America I should put since I enjoyed them all, but I believe that these are my favorite super hero films.

So what are your top 5 favorite super hero movies?

Agree with the Dark Knight Trilogy, but interesting to see you rate Winter Soldier higher than Civil War.

Dark Knight

Avengers (this first one)

Spider man 2 (tobey maguire )

Batman Begins/ Iron Man (the first one)

The Mask (he was a superhero too, well kind of :yk)

batman begins
guardians of galaxy
winter soldier
captain america the first avenger
wonder woman

im expecting big things from black panther movie.

5 is too small a list for me , I'd go with 10 :

1. The Dark Knight Trilogy -
Just like aliasad1998 said, have to take all three as one . Though the 1st two are superior to the third, still they work well as a unit . TDK may be the greatest single Superhero film ever, and BB one of the better origin stories

2. Logan :
Won't group this with the other X films. Closest contender to TDK as the best ever superhero film, but it's actually the closest Superhero films have come to proper "Quality cinema".

3. Wonder woman :
Debatable choice here, but I feel its the best origin story for a superhero that COMPLETELY captured the essence of the Character and the motivations, values, principles of the hero . Picture perfect casting, and a very faithful adaptation.

4. Avengers :
The best superhero - superhero film ! The big crown jewel of the MCU, the movie that broke all expectations and proved that multi-movie, multi-storied ensembles could WORK. It was let down by the poor sequel though, lets hope part 3 & 4 redeems it .

5. X2 - X-men United :
The best ever X-men film IMO. The 1st X-Men was great too, but the performances were not as polished like in later films, especailly Hugh's. Great plot and action, but the setup was destroyed by the poor sequel , which spoiled the whole "Dark phoenix" saga.

5. Iron Man 1 :
Best Iron man film period. Launched the MCU and moreover the best casting choice in a superhero film ever, but keep in mind Iron Man was never as popular as the DC trinity, so RDJ actually got a lot of leeway with the character. This is the only case were the STAR actually elevated the HERO ! Stood out alongside the Dark knight which released the same year, so that is saying something !

5. Captian America :
Winter Soldier
: Best standalone Marvel Film , great story, great action, very tight plot . You can maybe replace this with Civil War sand still do no wrong.

8. Spider Man trilogy (Sam Raimi) -
Arguably the 2nd best Superhero trilogy ever. Big BO smash , great stories and execution (except 3rd one) . Though not as faithful to the comics spidey, the 1st and 2nd films were miles ahead of anything that came out till then. The action sequences were a revelation, and one scene (spidey stopping the train crash ) is an ATG superhero moment in film. !

9. SUPERMAN (1978) :
The PROTOTYPE superhero film . I saw it first in 2004 , but it still awed me ! How can a 30 year old film do that ?? If you aren't used to superhero films, this movie will still fill you with joy, outdated special effects notwithstanding . Also it had the second best casting choice ever in Christopher reeve after RDJ for Iron man or Ryan Reynolds as deadpool . The man IS SUPERMAN and defines everything about the character. And he SMILED ! Like superman always does.

10. Blade (I and II) :
Never knew blade was a marvel hero until years later, but those two were smashing films, which saved Superhero flicks from the campy flops (like batman and robin) that had destroyed the genre in the 90's. Dark, scary and gothic, it was different from the usual superhero genre.

Honourable mentions :

Deadpool :
Complete subversion/spoof of the superhero genre, one of the most faithful adaptations of a character, and proof that there are still people who make superhero movies out of passion and not business targets. Funniest superhero film ever and maybe the greatest R-Rated Super-flick.
Hellboy :
Another gem from Guillermo Del Toro (Blade), though not as popular like the other films on this lot , I found the 1st film very entertaining and a far cry from the "Human God" superheroes that we always see. It's an entertaining watch.

Xmen First class
:
Another well made origin flick. I find it better than DOFP, because it does much more character development than the sequel, which has the better action and plot .

Sorry to miss out on Guardians of the Galaxy . But the director James Gunn has maintained , it is a 3-part story. So i'll reserve judgement till part 3 is out . 1 & 2 are fantastic. And I see it more as a space opera like star wars than a superhero film.

Unbreakable and kick *** are two different kind of super hero movies which are under rated

Great thread. Big fan of superhero movies although there seems to be a whole lot of them these days. I cannot decide on five and to save myself a lot of stress, I'll list my top ten:

1) The Dark Knight
2) Logan
3) Avengers: Civil War
4) The Avengers
5) X-Men: First Class
6) The Dark Knight Rises
7) Suicide Squad
8) Guardians of the Galaxy
9) Captain America: Winter Soldier
10) Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice

The new Thor is going to be right up there, me thinks. Deadpool didn't really cut it for me.

I personally found Guardians of galaxy extremely boring and lame.Acting was sub standards along with the same old ghisi piti script of saving planet from a lunatic villain (Who btw was so pathetic that I can't even begin to describe). Racoon was nice.Only saving grace of otherwise an extremely overrated movie.

Lots of potential for that one . But people are getting fatigued by marvel sequels. Dr Strange was fresh, but the sequel will be boring .

I'm looking forward to Black Panther. Dope trailer ! ALso Black people and African culture (not African- american) are about to get mainstream representation, which is rare.

Watchmen and "V for Vendetta" were decent films but compared to the Book's impact they felt mediocre.

And actually we all are missing the certified goat : The Incredibles . But it's animated, so I don't feel like putting it alongside these.

Dr. Strange didn't do it for me. Not into magic and stuff like that. I didn't even like much of the Harry Potter stuff.

Black Panther, Thor, Spiderman and of course, the next two Avengers movies will make Marvel a lot of cash. They're all pretty fresh too, in terms of characters and storyline.

You guys think we'll ever see a DC, Marvel and Fox joint production? Justice League vs The Avengers vs The X-Men.

1. Batman Begins
2. Logan
3. SpiderMan 2
4. Batman (1989) / Batman Returns (1992)
5. The Dark Knight / Superman 1 / X-Men

SandyB there's a stereotype that superhero movies are meant to be goofy, those who think Nolans TDK series is beyond the genre are ignorant because the entire premise of the series is based on frank millers gritty Dark Knight Returns graphic novel which was used as the source material. You have a thriller/Mystery/drama/crime genre's all these themes exist in frank millers work in fact he innovated them so its silly when people say oh TDK or Logan are above the superhero genre well no if anything their depiction in edgier movies finally does their origins justice! Just because there are not many ATG superhero movies doesn't mean we classify those which are ATG beyond the superhero genre to make sense of things.

TDK and Logan are both movies which should specifically be classified in the superhero genre which is in fact very diverse when it comes to the possibility with regards to various themes and influences.

Way too many egos involved. We might see X-men return to marvel studios from Fox though. That has colossal potential . But by that time the present group of 1st stage Marvel and X-Men stars will have aged out .

1. Batman Begins
2. Logan
3. SpiderMan 2
4. Batman (1989) / Batman Returns (1992)
5. The Dark Knight / Superman 1 / X-Men

Very Shazzy list. But TDK below Batman 1 & 2 ??

Supes 1, Supes 2, Iron Man 2, Avengers, Watchmen.

Wasn't Supes 2 panned critically .? I personally prefer 1 .

I've read most of the best/greatest DC comics arcs. What I mean is that , while the comics too delved a lot into crime, mystery, horror and what not , the superhero movies usually never go into depth with any-such themes. They just deal with issues on a very superficial basis or simply as plot advancing devices (MCU is quite guilty).

These films (Nolan trilogy and Logan) on the other hand, made the effort to delve deep into the comic mythos. In a sense they are actually being faithful to the better works of the Genre, but these films can also easily appeal to a complete Superhero film novice, in a way most Marvel,DCEU or Xmen films wont .

Not targeted at you but there are other folk who seem to think that TDK, Logan don't belong in the superhero genre because they are too good for it when that very genre influenced the categories they want to place those movies in because like you say Logan etc made a better effort to delve deep into the comic mythos.

SandyB And yeah those movies are my favourites, Bats 1 and 2 made me fall in love with the character growing up and re watching the movies when I got older they still stand the test of time and are fantastic in their own right and very influential. I find myself re watching Batman Begins more then any other SuperHero movie but I never get a craving to see TDK as much, not even more then Burtons Bats 1/2

The SpiderMan movies are CRIMINALLY underrated, they are not fresh in people's mind and were not released during the golden age for superhero films which is why they fall under the radar. The Avengers, IronMan etc are so overly rated; the best stuff from Marvel outside the X-Men (Which I don't consider as a part of MCU anyway) was the work they did with Captain America, Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy.

1 - Dark Knight
2 - Batman Begins
3 - Wonder Woman
4 - Avengers
5 - Logan
6 - Dark Knight Rises
7 - X-Men days of future past
8 - X-men first class
9 - Captain America - Civil War
10 - Iron man 1

Agree on all points. I remember the huge splash the spidey films made, especially because it was not an age conductive to superheroes. Everyone was into Leather jackets and guns post The Matrix.

The Sam raimi trilogy was brilliant , except for the sobbing characterisation of Toby's peter parker .

My opening to Batman was the seminal Batman :The Animated series (1992), which I still believe is the defining batman portrayal on screen . The series captured every essence of Batman - his voice, the darkness, the loneliness, the psyche of his villains and how they interacted with him, the personal life and relationships of Bruce wayne and Alfred in particular.

Nolan may have made the more critically acclaimed works, but for me purely from the character/comics perspective, nothing beats what that series achieved. And they did it in a medium where extreme violence and sex was banned.. There are certain episodes that still give you the chills , especially with Mark Hamil's Joker. Fantastic music too , including the beautiful opening montage !

The subsequent JL series too was great, even though it made Batman more of a side player.

SandyB That dance Peter does in the third movie under influence of Venom is something I would never be able to get out of my head.
Gross.

I have to agree with you there when it comes to Bats greatest depiction beyond the comics! was a huge fan of the animated series as well growing up! I believe that after the success of Burton's movies the animated series was released? all the episodes are available on Amazon Prime for those who want to catch the series. Am currently watching the latest season of Samurai Jack which is exceptional! I loved the original series which was edgy in itself but the final season which has been released this year after 12 years has a TV-14 rating meaning there blood and it's a bit more darker/gritty whilst retaining the originals authenticity

It was hilarious. I have a soft spot for spider man 3 because it was the first movie I watched in a cinema

How awesome is Jon Bernthal's The Punisher? Best TV superhero, along with The Daredevil. Apparently, Deathstroke is going to be the main villain in the one of the upcoming movies so that will be epic.

He's DC ? How'd he appear in a Marvel film ?

It's the new Batman solo where Deathstroke is allegedly the villain.

Okay, heard that rumour too . But B.Affleck has pulled out of directing it . Let's see how it pans out . But Deathstroke alone won't cut , his motivations are not that great like the main Bat-villians.

They Should do a "Civil War " and pull Will Smith back as Deadshot , against Batman .
