Zimbabwe's massive squad is the latest in several schizophrenic selection decisions.

First ODI starts in about 3 hours.

Clarke is injured and will miss the first test. Australia have selected an extremely odd side and it really looks like we're more interested in trying out various allrounders and bowlers than anything else (which the Australia A Squads also showed). Could be some truth in what I hear about Watson's test future (or lack of it).

But Hughes misses despite only one other top order batsman in the squad, Clarke being injured and having scored two double centuries in the Australia A series. I'm really wondering why they bothered to give him a contract.

Johnson, Richardson and Starc is a very quick attack with Richardson being quicker than Pattinson. Marsh when fully fit can bowl 140kmph but he hasn't for a while but it's still good to see him get a run.

Don't expect too much. Very experimental team with 8 bowling options (though Smith is very much a partimer). I expect that Marsh, Maxwell, Lyon, Faulkner etc will be given their opportunity and that Johnson and Starc won't bowl their 10 overs.

Warner/Finch/Watson/Maxwell are all match winners on their day and there is a good chance one of them will click on any particular day.

They also have a capable lower order with the likes of Faulkner/Starc/Haddin who can all score quickly and use long handle well.

I do not want to talk about their bowling. Too many Great-Good choices to pick from. MJ/Rhino/Pattinson are probably their main bowlers and their 2nd choice bowlers like of Cummins/Starc/Faulkner can walk into most International sides.

Overall, Aus are a Monster of a team and IMO, anything short of Finals is a unacceptable. They should be terribly disappointed if they do not win it all. Only SA on their day can challenge this Aus side.

India with their weak bowling and Pak with their weak batting are no Match for them. Lanka like India has good batting. But they too like India do not have fiery bowlers.
