Tristan Stubbs (21 years old), the name was doing rounds in SA cricket circles in last season or so. He has scored 2 100s in his first 8 FC matches, currently averages 46.50. Averages 36.25 with SR of 163.4 in 22 matches.

Debuted yesterday vs Eng and hit 8 sixes scoring 72 off 28 balls (Yes the boundaries were relatively small) but, he showed a lot of ability and composure.

Looks like a potential.

Fantastic knock yesterday.

Looks utterly focused and fearless this kid!

The kid looks special. Shots all around the park and wasn't flustered. A real find.

South Africa needs young black batsman to appear and that moment all the talent is white- Brevis, Stubbs, Rick Rickleton etc

He looked assured against pace and spin. Very promising.

England seem to have figured out that the best way to disrupt this fellow is to starve him of deliveries. He loses his timing when he is the striking batter then.

Watch how talented players like Brewis and Stubbs are kept out of the t20 and odi team by quota players like Bavuma.

I think nerves start to play a role when he is not in action as can be the case with some young players. When they are playing that adrenaline rush kicks in and other feelings on occasions can subside however, at non-striker end for too long can sometimes allow for that extra thinking, doubts and realization of the magnitude of the occasion of representing your national team in the middle.

Most likely will get better at handling that as he mature.

Not a bad fielder either.

What a brilliant catch to get rid of Moeen Ali.

Seems promising.

South Africa seem like they are rising again. They have a strong side now.

Out for 28 - no use that innings.

Although 3 sixes must be fun to watch

The point is that he absolutely tore apart Rashid Khan in that over. How many batsmen in the world can do that? I know Babar can’t

South Africa set to give Tristan Stubbs a new role for WTC25

The 23-year-old is set for a long run as South Africa's No.3 Test batter

South Africa batter Tristan Stubbs is set to make the No.3 spot in South Africa's Test batting line-up his own, according to coach Shukri Conrad.

Stubbs, just one Test match old, is already making his mark in white-ball cricket for the Proteas, but his red-ball numbers in domestic cricket are as impressive.

In 18 first-class games, Stubbs has 1205 runs with five centuries, the most recent of which was a mammoth 302*, compiled off a mere 372 balls.

He finished the CSA 4-Day Series Division 1 domestic season 2023-24 as the second-highest run-scorer with 562 runs at a staggering average of 80.28.

The extraordinary season, combined with his obvious talent, has seen Stubbs being backed at the No.3 spot, likely for the rest of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle.

"I'm going to give him a good run," Conrad said ahead of the first Test against West Indies.

"I'd be surprised if we didn't back him throughout the rest of the cycle. I'm pretty confident Tristan is going to come good.

"Technique is obviously a big factor because you're going to be facing the new ball the bulk of the time. And he's quite an imposing character, a big, strong, strapping boy, and I quite like that.

"I like the fact that at the top of the order, they are quite imposing guys, guys that have got a good aura about them and strong body language."

Since 2020, South Africa have played nine different batters at the No.3 position, with Keegan Petersen the only one to make over 500 runs, which came at an average less than 30.

The last South African batter to make a men's Test century from No.3 is Theunis de Bruyn in 2018, over six years ago.

Historically, No.3 has been a tricky spot for South Africa with only four batters ever making more than 1000 runs for them in Test cricket.

One of them (Hashim Amla) has had considerable success for an extended period, with 25 of the last 27 Test hundreds for South Africa from No.3 coming off his bat.

With batting being a major concern for the Proteas through the last two ICC World Test Championships, a young Stubbs has been backed to bring stability to the middle-order.

"His psyche and his technique speak to someone who will do that job really well," Conrad said.

"Because you’re going to be facing the new ball the bulk of the time, I know Tristan ticks all of those boxes.

“But ultimately, the proof is going be in the tasting. But yeah, I’m going down this road, and I’m confident we begin to reap the rewards. We've got a good one for the future of South African cricket."

South Africa have eight more Test matches in the ongoing WTC cycle to push for a top-two spot – two against West Indies (away), two against Bangladesh (away) and two each against Sri Lanka and Pakistan at home.

The first Test against West Indies begins on 7 August in Trinidad.

Tristan Stubbs gets his first Test fifty in good time against West Indies in 1st Test , scored 68(50)

Tristan Stubbs is the best batting talent that SA has. It's nice to see that they're giving him more chances in Test cricket, because you don't want a player of his calibre to go the franchise cricket way.

Tristan Stubbs scored a magnificent 76 runs off just 42 deliveries to bring his side to a par score against West Indies in the 1st T20I.

South Africa 174/7

West Indies (17.5/20 overs T:175) 176/3

Tristan Stubbs doesn't get to his maiden international hundred

An excellent knock 79(86) nonetheless, his 152-run partnership with Ryan Rickelton has brought South Africa right into the game in 1st ODI against Ireland

INCREDIBLE knock from Stubbs to bring up his maiden ODI century against Ireland in the 2nd ODI.He's playing some of the best cricket of his life! The talent this young player possesses is unmatched; he truly has the world at his feet right now. He's definitely penciled in for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025

This guy just struck a hundred against Bangladesh. 1st one of his career. Got out for 106.

Great inning from this youngster, surely South Africa needs him.

Tristan Stubbs single-handedly won the game for South Africa against India wher he scored an unbeaten 47 off 41 deliveries.

After the 2nd T20I between South Africa and India , former South Africa wicketkeeper Mark Boucher while speaking on a local broadcast media:

"Tristan Stubbs came in under a lot of pressure. There was no momentum at all. But Stubs stayed till the very and and took the game right to the death."

"But a great knocked by Stubbs. I mean, he saw it all. Guys coming in, playing terrible shots but he managed to keep his head and steer South Africa to a very interesting victory."
