Pakistan’s emphatic 191‑run win in the U19 Asia Cup final shows the depth of serious talent emerging from their youth ranks. Bring the new kids in, trust their ability, and watch what happens.

Who do you think can be a good prospect for upcoming pool of Pakistan cricket?

nope, the problem was never the young players, pak always had one or two exciting young players in each under 19 batch. the problem is the pathway between under 19 and international is broken. first class cricket is substandard, there is no 'A' cricket, the PSL is too short for skill development and the senior team play too little red ball cricket.

you need under-19 4 day games, you need two or three full 'A' team tours during the off season. your young playes should be playing at least 50 professional games, 20, 15 first class, 10 list A and 25 t20 a year. only then will you have enough development for progress.

It's all about how they're developed.

Talent can win you a few games here and there, but proper development is needed to win consistently at the highest level. The good thing is they have 3-4 prospects that can legitimately be worked with in the coming years out of this batch.

We’ve seen many of these threads come and go over the past two decades.

Truth is, Pakistan cricket will not produce top talent that can play long careers due to the value given to PSL over FC cricket. Furthermore, investment to improve grassroots cricket has not escalated like it has in India and Bangladesh since 2007. Until that is improved, then we can see consistent and fruitful results.

Ask yourself, how many world class or elite talent have we produced since 2003 that have gone on to become legends or elite players?

Saad and Minhas are the players I’d keep an eye on though.

Well Pakistan u19 won against India and it was a good achievement. Over the year there have been no concern regarding talent at disposal of Pakistan. We have seen success at u19 levels from Pakistan previously as well but that doesn't translate into success into national team. I have said it before here that there is a much deeper social reason why Pakistani players fail to develop into international level athletes. Most of Pakistani players come from small background or villages where their goal at a young age is always to represent Pakistan national team. These young kids undoubtedly put a lot of effort and hardwork in their game and ultimately achieve their goal of Pakistan representation. The problem starts after that. These kids by the time they represent Pakistan start getting traction or famous within their small villages. These kids fail to evolve their goals from national representation to being competitive / world class at international level. For these kids they have always lived in a small bubble and within that bubble if they are a big shot by being Pakistani player that that is enough for them mentally. This is the sole reason we see the levels of hardwork and dedication starts dropping in Pakistani players after their national representation is completed. For a country like Pakistan we would need a superstar like Virat Kohli to tell the youth of today that achieving success is temporary but sustaining success is legendary. I hope we see that day when our youth cricketers actually aspire to not be best in their bubble but aspire to be the best in the world and work hard to sustain that success.

On the current success of the u19 team some of the standout performers for me were follows:

1. Sameer Minhas - The guy is gifted strokemaker. He has amazing balance when playing his shots and to top it off he can play all around the park with amazing repertoire of shots selection. If I have to make a constructive criticism of this lad it would only be that he need to be more watchful in his first 20 deliveries. If he can mentally be able to survive the first 20 deliveries then I can see him scoring big often. For now he should bask in this success and take his game forward.

2. Farhan Yousaf - He was the captain of the team and another person I believe will be part of the national team in the long-run. Similar to Sameer he has good range of shots selection and to add to the fact he is a middle overs player we should cherish such players. We haven't had many success for past decade of more of getting any middle order bat after Inzi that we could rely upon. If we invest in this guy proper he can plug the number 5 issue for us for a long-run. Adding to this he is also a very good fielder.

3. Hamza - He was the wicket-keeper in the tournament. I'm very impressed with his keeping skills throughout the tournament. As a batsman nothing very noteworthy but as a keeper he was top shelf throughout the tournament.

4. Ali Raza - We all know him by now but I'm happy to see him put on weight and height. His speeds seem to have increased and that is a good sign. We have had many fast bowlers come through u19 before going into oblivion but here's me hoping that he can be much more of a test prospect than wasted in T20s. He needs to improve his fielding though.

With a lot of T20 cricket now being played there is a chance that most of these youngsters would go down that route. For any decent cricketer 4 day game is the best way to improve their ability so I hope PCB ensures that they partake in 4 day tournaments and not just meaningless T20s.

Pcb should make it mandatory that 1 younger from under 19s has to be picked for the first class/list A xi.

Very good analysis.

I also think Farhan and Hamza who currently are not good enough even at U19 level as a batter but they do have potential to improve and get better and play modern cricket in couple of seasons, but Shayan and Usman are very limited batters and will struggle to find a FC team and I am not seeing them improving either.

Haven't seen Ali Hasan enough to say anything but one thing is for sure he is one timid batter in the mold of Abdullah Shafiq.

They should add one U19 team to Quaid Trophy or President trophy and let them play 4 day cricket with the big boys early on in their careers as our board has not got enough money for U19 tours.

They can atleast use Australian drop in pitches for U19 leagues as this will make them prepare at the grass root level, Surely if Dubai can use Gabba drop in pitches with amazing results then why we can't?

I dont think they should add an u19s team but add players to the xi in the teams already thiers.Pakistan doesnt really play much u19s tournament/matches so having drop in pitches is pointless rather should be done in Qaid E Azam at a few grounds.

Agree with most but Farhan has lots of qualities( fielding) but doesnt have the raw talent.

If Haroon Arshad is of the age claimed, he has to play. Although his footwork has all the life of corpse, he still has enough talent to be in this team

Appreciate that everyone is skeptical of Ali Hassan Baloch after this tournament after his unimpactful performances, but domestically he was the best batter in this group (comfortably more than Minhas).

I think the management will give him most games in the upcoming tri-series, to get his confidence and rhythm up. Because ultimately the team needs him, as we’re playing one specialist batsman short in the current lineup.

Some of the pakistani upcoming white ball talent based on recent series including emerging cup and Under 19

1..Maaz Sadaqat
2. Shamyl Hussain
3. Sameer Minhas
4. Sufiyan muqeem
5..Faisal Akram
6..Ali Raza
7..Ahmed Daniyal
8..Usman Tariq

Hold your horses! , no era is ushering , these u19 guys blew away quicker than fog , the success rate in terms of longevity is less than 50%.

Zia ul Haq, Umer Waheed, Umar Amin etc etc long list of so many players gone out of radar

I like this energy, you are right to be excited. Why not?

You’re just gonna get the same response from a lot of knowitalls here who will keep repeating the “red ball cricket”, improve the structure etc etc.

But there are some players here who should be earmarked to progress. Why not?

Let’s face it, our domestic cricket is pants. I can bet even if our promising u19 pacers play a lot of 4 day cricket, all that will happen is they’ll turn in to decent trundlers on helpful tracks - that’s it. Pace will be gone, danger will be gone.

I’m sick of having the same discussion over and over again about structure, grassroots etc etc. it ain’t gonna happen. We all know it.

Bring these kids in but of course be selective on what you need. But also on top of that, get rid of any cowards in the current team as they will inherit that mentality

As alluded to by some of the other posters, Pakistan's main issue is processing that raw talent and turning them into the finished article.

We all know gifted Babar Azam was since he was a kid but look how that turned out. Misbah-ism is also a major issue and has ruined a number of players like him.

If PCB really cares about Pakistan cricket, which I am convinced it isn’t, it will send these kids to play county cricket and have them play the long format of the game for a minimum full season, even before they play PSL. First class cricket in Pakistan is meaningless and PSL is a very pathetic metric to judge or develop a player.

Most likely, these kids will be fast tracked for PSL where they will never develop as players or fix their flaws. Another U19 batch down the drain.

Pipeline of converting these players to internationals is missing / broken or they become selfish once they enter sr team and play for themselves. One of these 2 things happen

Youngsters are doing a fine job atm... Saad baig, azan, saad khan, Ali Raza, Shamyl, to mention a few.

But we gotta be patient with them... Cannot do bhangra right now as they are still not tested at the international level... We have seen many domestic bullies already so we cannot trust anyone atm.

Babar was always a low SR batsman.
