It is time to put all the negative talks to rest. Imam is one for the future.

So impressed withchis temperament. It seems like i am watching a 30 year old veteran. It seems i am watching a right handed Shoaib Malik.

He looks elegant as well with his strokeplay.

Living up to his uncles Legacy. Wish he can even become 50% of the player his uncle was

Sahibzada Farhan would have ripped India apart. Imam has been selected due to nepotism and he is keeping 3-4 legends out of the team.

Regards,

PPers who don’t know what they are talking about.

Hats off to his temperament. But, he needs to add few more shots and, moreover, his 70 str.rate won't help in Eng, SA and Aus (where pitches are flat), where you need to score 320+

Let's see how he overcomes it.

Yes. He's temperament is unbelievable. That's what separates man from boys in international cricket. Babar maybe more talented, but he is not fit to tie imam's shoelaces.

I m very happy for him.He has great temperament. He is shutting his haters up which is very satisfying to see.

From where have you found this guy? He seems to have nerves of steel.

To me he seems like at another levek compared to sloggers like Fakhar, Asif etc. Way better than even Bobby.

Good player. Very cool minded and his running between the wickets is fantastic- unlike Inzamam.

Unfortunately, he doesn't have enough shots and his scoring ability will hurt Pakistan when they will be up against top teams.

Nice addition to our collection of anchors. We are a ship that will never move with all these anchors holding us steady.

Rated him as their best player. He can be future captain too just need to work bit on striking ball more maybe. Quite underrated compared to other players.

He looks like somebody who has gone to English speaking school. A good student of the game who will learn and get better.

All this talk about his Strike rate is clutching at straws for his haters . He is a perfect foil for an inform Fakhar, sharjeel etc. The guy has the temperament , and given his age, I’m sure he will improve his game. We talk about openers having a 90 plus strike rate in England , South Africa, how many of our openers have ever done that ! Give the lad a break and move on .

If he discovers his powergame like kl rahul did who also was a classical steady batsman like imam, then he can be a real powerhouse in LOI as he already has the temperament to succeed

He is watchful of the field. He knows exactly where the gaps are and he will keep exploiting them.

Counting balls and runs. Amazing, he has match awareness. Talent is not only about pleasing shots.

Im very very impressed by his knock today.

Bevan type innings really.

Let's see if he can close it out for his team.

Not sure if he can sustain with his approach on flatter tracks but today he has been magnificent.

Pressure knockout game - ✓
Looked at ease against the new ball - ✓
Dealt with spinners - ✓
Maintained composure as wickets fell - ✓
Now batting with tail - ?

This is like a complete batting advert so far.

Amazing....first jinxed India in England, then Rahul...now Imam...=(

Jus kidding.... imam is a good find. Should be persisted with

Damn how did he miss that ball.

2 dot balls and the pressure got to him.

I don't understand why batsmen walk out of their crease if its not their natural game... Seen loads of such dismissals in a tight chase... That shot should be shelved unless its an absolute requirement....

Did all the hard work... Feel for Imam...

Imam has always played well and under pressure . Solid batsmen but people love hacks Asif Ali and fakhar

I put it in the match thread too and posting here also. You earned a fan today. I will watch every match where you will bat.

Imam is not ODI player -he is not much of an improvement on Azhar Ali.

Though if he works on his strike rate, he may become one!

Shame on some Pakistanis for not recognizing the amazing talent they have here to work with.

You really do deserve your hacks.

At the end, inexperience did him in. He was rebuking Asif for getting out not playing the spinner safely in the 'V' and then falls playing an even lower-percentage shot against a spinner.

Good knock though, needed more from Babar and the captain.

The boy has grit. If only he was a better stroke maker. The attitude of a champion batsman without the raw natural ability of one.

Pakistan's dilemma these days. Those who have the stroke-making ability are usually mentally weak or just don't apply themselves well enough and just try to ride on their talent, prime example is Umar Akmal, Kamran Akmal, Nasir Jamshed. Whereas the ones who do apply themselves and show mental fortitude don't have the natural talent and ability to make it beyond a certain level, prime example Azhar Ali, Fawad Alam, Imam ul Haq.

That is Imam's natural game. He hits most of his boundaries that way. He should have curbed his game and just stuck to the singles and doubles.

As usual another one of his minnow bashing innings although yet again he couldn't lead the team to victory. He only managed to do so against the mighty HK and tore them apart with his SR of 70%.

The difference is that when Asif got out the RRR was 6.8. Imam had to take the risk because the RRR had climbed to almost 8 and his partner could not be trusted enough. Asif messed it up, the match was within grasp at that stage.

I see...

He was milking Mehdi last over.

2 dots from Mahmadullah and he over-reacted.

He's a newcomer teams haven't seen much of him the honeymoon period always has an ending the real test will be in the future against the top 5 teams.

When in doubt, take the game deep.

It was a pre meditated shot.

Mahmadullah expected him to come dancing and fired it in. Smart bowling i must say.

Only those who have very good hitting ability would back themselves to take it deep such as Dhoni. Imam unfortunately is quite limited. Such a batsman would always look to make sure that the RRR remains in check. A more experienced cricketer might have gone with a more percentage stroke though such as a reverse sweep or a paddle instead of charging down. Might well have been a case of tunnel vision, when you lose your cool you don't see all the options and become fixated on just a few.

Also Mahmudullah expected him to do something and was ready for it. Don't think he expected him to play exactly that shot.

We got 99 problems, but Imam ain't one! For those picking on him for getting runs against lesser teams, what about the others who've failed even there?

Actual taking the game deep helps all types of batsmen.

You never know when a bowler might lose it or when the other batsmen might connect a couple of fluke 4s.

Yes, you can't let the run rate get to crazy levels but 3-4 singles in an over with a bad ball boundary can change the game slowly but steadily.

This Shaheen guy looked solid and could hav supported him.

Judging by the way he was approaching the game, he may have been too focused on getting the req runs every over as opposed to looking at the big picture.

He has shut a few of us up. I think he needs to improve his strike rotation. But with what he has shown in this tournament, I'm willing to give him another couple of series. Also hope he is selected in tests. I'm sure he will do well in tests.

Batting is in the genes. He will only get better and mark my words, he will be one of the best openers in world cricket when ICC abolish the 2 new ball rule and return back to a system that reduces the over the top huge scores

I want Sharjeel back given to date there has been no conclusive evidence to ban him. Imam can be the 3rd opener.

He showed a lot of heart.

Pakistan's batting resources ruined his effort otherwise a deeper lineup would have chipped in and grabbed the win.

He has the mentality to be a great cricketer, much better than anything Babar will ever be. Imam clearly can handle his nerves and is a more valuable investment than Babar because Imam seems to be more mentally composed. It’s a rare trait in Pakistani batsmen to keep calm under pressure and Imam has done brilliantly.

P.S. I don’t see any Imam haters on here. Must be taking a bread from PP. :babar

There is still the question of if he can score against better teams. Temperament wise, he's been solid.

UAE tracks are perfect for his style & tempo - still an asking of 4.8, before leaving he managed to take that to 6.8 after batting 40 overs - that too against a depleted attack with 3 regular bowlers + Mash ..... so I'll wait a little.

ODI, I am still not sure - for ODI, openers have to cash on every lose ball, otherwise they won't leave enough balls for middle order - I am not impressed at all for his boundary hitting ability, may be he'll improve with time.

But, he is definitely a quality prospect for Test cricket, which suits his slow burning tactics & sound temperament.

Mamoon hussain

This guy scores faster than Babur Akmal (I mean Azam). Imam has brilliant match awareness, and delivers impactful knocks better than this seniors. He has a good SIX shot. He has good drives. He just needs to not let frustration of his batting partners get in his way. He seems to be involved in run-outs and mix-ups often due mainly to the fact that his partners can’t rotate the strike. He sometimes gets frusturated that he throws his wicket away to premeditated big shot. He needs to lock his mind on the deliveries after getting to his fifty.

When you're early in your carreer and can show temperment like that, surely great things will follow. The question is, is he willing to put in the hard work to increase the SR and array of shots.

Babur Azam doesn't have the work ethic to improve himself. He is surrounded by "Akmal" and you cannot have high hopes for him. He has the talent, but no natural motivation to succeed.

Imam ul Haq on the contrary is influenced by Inzamam ul Haq. One of the most successful batsmen for Pakistan. Good news is that Ibtisam ul Haq is also a player that could find a way onto the Pakistan team.

TBH both Akmal brothers could have been much more as a player for Pakistan but fame took them on a different road. Talent without hardwork = failure to follow.

Imam looks like a good kid. hope he flourishes.

A minnow basher. A mediocre batsman. Belongs to the early 1990s.

So true, Two minnow bashing knocks in one tournament.... yes he is going to continue to minnow bash. Plz bring in Papua New Gunia, Fiji, etc for him to score another double hundred.
