Two people were hurt when a car struck several people outside a north London mosque, police said.

Eyewitnesses described hearing the driver "shouting anti-Islamic taunts" in the incident at the Al-majlis Al-Hussaini Islamic centre, Edgware Road.

However, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement that it was not being treated as terrorist-related.

Two people were taken to hospital following the incident at about 00:35 BST. The driver failed to stop.

The injuries sustained by the casualties were not thought to be life-threatening.

Scotland Yard said: "Officers are currently retaining an open mind regarding the cause of the collision."

A spokesperson for the Hussaini Association, which had been holding a series of lectures at the mosque, said: "We are in deep shock at such an attack taking place on our community.

"We remain proud to live in a diverse and tolerant society and as such we remain unintimidated."

Could be sectarian. There's lots of Anjum Choudhary type Wahabis in the UK. It's an opportune time for them to strike given that we're around 9th/10th Muharram right now.

That was my first thoughts too, but since read the occupants of the car were drinking.

"Eyewitnesses described hearing the driver "shouting anti-Islamic taunts" in the incident at the Al-majlis Al-Hussaini Islamic centre, Edgware Road." So that is not considered to be terrorism?

I don't think Wahabi's shout anti-Islamic slogans.

Potential terrorism from subhuman thugs and should be treated as such.

The front page of The Times has a large photo of Khalid Masood captioned 'Smiling killer', who was the culprit in the Westminster Bridge attack last year. Murdoch media knows how to keep the bad guys demarcated front and centre.

Apparently the occupants of the car were parked up in some corner of the mosque car park getting high, were asked to move on and then ran the car into a few people on the way out as a cowardly form of revenge, they will be caught eventually with the level of cctv around that area, locked up and regret their actions for a very long time.
