If they ask for flat pancake 500+ wickets, the likes of which we saw early on in the QeA trophy, Pakistan will risk losing the Test series. I'd predict SL wins 1-0.

I hope they look at how India have changed their outlook towards pitches in the country and ask for some bounce and pace. They need to give their bowlers a chance. Our batsmen will bat well on those tracks, given they've just returned from Australia. Our bowlers need all the help they can get at this point.

If I am not wrong they were pretty flat in 90s too except maybe Rawalpindi which offered some assistance to the pacers. Reverse swing was the main weapon in those wickets and they were pretty much the same even in 2009 when Srl last toured Pakistan.

In terms of pitches, I remember mornings in Karachi would produce some swing and the early evening would have a similar effect as the sea breeze rolled in. If I am not mistaken, a cool day in multan would also offer something to the pace bowlers.

As the pitches wore on they would provide both reverse swing and some turn.

It has been years since international test cricket has been a part of Pakistans cricket structure so I assume the pitches are all now slow, low and maybe offering some turn late.

That was one of the reason almost every bowler from Pakistan had pace and reverse swing as a weapon in those times as there wasnt much in the pitches to help. Ideally there should be good carry in the wicket to encourage good contest overall as in Australia they have good wickets but they arent green or pacer friendly.

Certain part of cricket community feels that having less pacer friendly wickets or flat wickets encourages bowlers with pace to come forward rather than medium pacers. That is why many experts have linked poor and low scoring green wickets in Pak domestic tournaments in the last decade with medium pacers and not the genuine prospects in Pak bowling coming forward.

If you look at the bowling averages in QAE trophy before 2019, many pacers were averaging in teens and they weren't of international quality at all.

Yes , far too many cameras these days to get the kind of movement Imran, Wasim, Waqar and Shoaib used to obtain consistently. This is the bitter truth. You just can't fling a roughed up ball at a full length and get the job done anymore. Pakistani bowlers need to hit that good length hard with the odd bouncer and do that day in, day out. It's the only that works in test cricket.

Heard of a guy from Yorkshire many years back who just loaded one side of the ball w/ sweat and saliva to get it reversing towards the heavier or 'shiny' side. Would that kind of a thing work consistently?

I feel bowlers should be allowed to do whatever they want with the ball as long as they use their hands and no foreign substances.Even umpires begin calling fielders out these days when you begin throwing the ball in on the bounce to rough it up.

"Our instructions before this series were clear. We want supporting pitches. We are coming from Australia in tough conditions with pace and bounce, if we get conditions slightly supportive for fast-bowlers here with a bit of bounce and carry, no matter the result, but it will be good for team development and for us to play well in every conditions. We have to take this decision so that our fast-bowlers develop and batsmen also for England, Australia etc. and we can set the formation of our side. Anything can happen in this case, SL has good pacers and their medium pacers are experienced. But going forward, for Pakistan cricket, I think it's better if we play on such pitches that support pacers a bit"
