Liverpool apology
Liverpool v Man City (19:45 BST)

Liverpool

The club condemns in the strongest possible terms the scenes which preceded our Champions League quarter-final, which resulted in damage being inflicted on the Manchester City team bus during their arrival at Anfield.

We apologise unreservedly to Pep Guardiola, his players, staff and officials caught up in the incident.

The behaviour of a number of individuals was completely unacceptable and the club will cooperate fully with the authorities to identify those responsible.

The priority now is to establish the facts and offer Manchester City whatever support is necessary.

3-0 to Liverpool already. What on earth is going on?

Liverpool absolutely destroying City. Making them look like a second tier team. Salah is Ronaldo-Messi level right now.

Liverpool v Man City: Reds apologise for damage to bus before Champions League tie

Liverpool have "condemned in the strongest possible terms" damage caused to the Manchester City coach outside Anfield before the Champions League tie between the two sides.

Videos on social media show cans, bottles and flares being thrown at the City coach as it arrived at the ground.

No player or staff were injured but two police officers were hurt and the coach was left unsafe to be driven.

Liverpool called the behaviour "completely unacceptable".

Merseyside Police match commander Superintendent Paul White said the force "will conduct enquiries to identify who was responsible and bring them to justice".

He added: "The officers and stewards are there to protect the public and keep them safe. It is disappointing to see that a number of people behaved in this appalling way."

Liverpool said in a statement: "We apologise unreservedly to Pep Guardiola, his players, staff and officials caught up in the incident. The priority now is to establish the facts and offer Manchester City whatever support is necessary."

Earlier on Wednesday, Merseyside Police had issued a statement saying the two team coaches would "not be taking their usual route" because of "building works and to ensure the safety of fans".

Liverpool had asked their supporters "to gather to show their passion and support for the team... in a friendly, respectful and considerate manner".

'Hopefully it doesn't happen again'
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp: "I really don't understand it. We tried everything to prevent a situation like that. When we came through it was obviously very positive. For Liverpool FC I have to say sorry."

Man City boss Pep Guardiola: "Thank you to Jurgen for his apology. We didn't expect that, I didn't expect that. I know that is not Liverpool, the history of the club is much bigger than this four or five or 10 guys. Hopefully it doesn't happen again."

Liverpool 3-0 Manchester City

Brilliant Liverpool hammer Man City. Salah scores 38th goal of season but goes off injured later. Oxlade-Chamberlain drive and Mane header give Reds huge win.

Barcelona 4-1 Roma

Two own goals, Pique & Suarez for Barca, Dzeko with Roma goal.

Amazing win!

Blew them off the park in the first 30 mins. Second half was tough, had to hang in there but we didnt concede a vital away goal. One away goal for us in the second leg and City will need to score 5!! :)

Hope Mo Salah is not out for too long.

Long live the Reds! :klopp

I still think MCity isn't out of the tie - they can win 2nd leg 5-1 or at least 3-0. Apart for individual quality of players, Pep will be able to rest his entire starting XI and still can put a good squad against MU; for us Chelsea is breathing on neck - not much chance to rest key players in weekend. Things are desperate when in CT QF, Manager has to replace Salah, Firmino and Ox for Solanki, Wijnaldum & Moreno ...... I think, Sir Hendo is out, not sure if Can can make it in 6 days, which makes the midfield a little better than Championship quality :)

Tactically, this was a brilliant game for Klopp, almost schooling Pep. He knew, he can't compete for 90 minutes with that squad, his only chance was go flat out and get may be 2-0 lead in 35 minutes, then anchor the air-craft carrier ....... We got 3 and kept MCity at bay for 63 minutes.

Hope we loose the return leg not worse than 4-1.

As of now, 3 Semi Finalists are certain -

- Real (Juve needs 3-0 at S Bernabiu, then tie-breaker)
- Barca (Roma needs 3-0 at Stadio Olimpico)
- Bayern (They are 2-1 up from away leg)

4th one is highly skewed to Liverpool with 3-0 home advantage, but still not dead. Klopp with his bikini thin squad has to play Saturday EPL game at Everton and must have to get at least 1 point, otherwise Chelsea catches up for the all important 4th spot

I am sure Klopp has got enough phone calls from Boston - if required, sacrifice the CL, but don't slip from 4th spot - for a business case, difference between QF exit & winning CL is around 35mn additional, may be 40mn, BUT difference between 4th & 5th spot finish in EPL is around 85mn, could be even 100mn - Yanks do know their business.

As of now, Matip is injured, Can is 50-50, Sir Hendo is booked and Mo Salah has a slight muscle strain. So, basically, we are going to Ittehad with a line up that could have Moreno as left mid-field, Barron Milner as DM, Lord Ox as right mideo while Wijnaldum pulling strings as AM. Add to that, the next Linekar as No. 9 (and he is better than Danny boy Inggs) - Yanks must have enjoyed that 3.5mn wage saved from Sturridge's loan deal.

There is no country protection from QF stages, hence, I would like to see SF line-up like

Barca V Real (Confirmed double El Clasico, and it ensures one Spanish side in Final, instead of 2 or 0)
Bayern V Liverpool

Both ties will be spicy - 1st one obviously, 2nd one as well be it Liverpool or MCity. Klopp declined Bayern job and he has few scores to settle against flagship German Club while Bayern didn't renew Pep's contract (he was actually an under achiever at Bayern). It couldn't have been better just before WC - I am inspired enough to write something on WC soon in PP!!!!!!!!

Merseyside Police have asked the public to send them footage of Manchester City's team bus being attacked at Anfield on Wednesday.

Cans, bottles and flares were thrown at the bus as a crowd gathered before the 3-0 Champions League quarter-final first-leg loss to Liverpool.

European football's governing body Uefa has opened disciplinary proceedings against Liverpool.

City manager manager Pep Guardiola said he "doesn't understand" the attack.

And his assistant Manuel Estiarte posted footage from inside the bus on social media and called the incident "unacceptable".

No players or staff were injured but two police officers were hurt and the coach was left unsafe to be driven.

Uefa has charged Liverpool over the setting off of fireworks, throwing objects, acts of damage and crowd disturbances.

"The charges of acts of damage and crowd disturbances relate to incidents involving the Manchester City team bus," a spokesperson said.

The case will be dealt with by Uefa's disciplinary body on 31 May - five days after the Champions League final takes place.

Before the match, Merseyside Police had issued a statement saying the two team coaches would "not be taking their usual route" because of "building works and to ensure the safety of fans".

Liverpool also shared the statement and asked their supporters "to gather to show their passion and support for the team... in a friendly, respectful and considerate manner".

However, BBC Sport understands the police are unhappy at reports insinuating the route notification was partly to blame for what happened.

They believe that not publicising the changes could have resulted in fans gathering along the original route then rushing en-masse to where the coaches did arrive instead.

And they point out that both areas are close to Anfield and that fans were going to gather outside the stadium regardless.

Merseyside Police match commander, superintendent Paul White, said two officers suffered cuts and swelling after one was struck by an object and another cut by glass during the incident.

He said the force would do "everything in our power" to find the people responsible as they review CCTV and officers' body-camera footage.

"We know many people were filming the events with camera phones and ask that anyone with any footage of the projectiles being thrown send it to a dedicated email address so that it can be reviewed: team.coach.incident@merseyside.police.uk" he said.

Guardiola said he "did not expect" the incident to happen and referenced the attack on the Borussia Dortmund team bus last April, which left defender Marc Bartra injured.

"Normally when the police know it is going to happen, they tried to avoid it from happening," said ex-Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss Guardiola. "One year ago something happened in Dortmund.

"We come here to play football and I don't understand this kind of situation.

"The bus is destroyed but I did not expect a prestigious club like Liverpool doing this kind of thing. It is not Liverpool, it is the people, maybe one, two or three, but hopefully it does not happen again."

Liverpool said in a statement: "We apologise unreservedly to Pep Guardiola, his players, staff and officials. The priority now is to establish the facts and offer Manchester City whatever support is necessary."

Former Anfield captain Steven Gerrard said the scenes "sour the night for the club".

"We want a great atmosphere and we want to make it hostile for the opposition but certain individuals have overstepped the line and it's bang out of order," he said on BT Sport.

However, Guardiola's players were keen to play down the incident.

Captain Vincent Kompany said it "had no effect on us" and that it was something they have experienced before, while midfielder Kevin de Bruyne said there was "nothing wrong with it".

"Obviously it's not nice if you see windows breaking, that's not a good thing, but I think if supporters line the streets in support without being violent then I think it's OK," he added.

Liverpool's mayor Joe Anderson tweeted that the events "don't represent the true spirit of Liverpool and Manchester".

Manchester City medical staff treated an injured Liverpool fan for 25 minutes … in the EXACT spot where the team bus had been attacked hours earlier.

Blues stars and manager Pep Guardiola watched from the coach as staff treated the female supporter, before ambulances arrived.

That meant the bus, which was a replacement for the vehicle damaged by missiles four hours before, was parked just yards from the Arkles pub, scene of the ugly incident.

The fan was involved in a collision with a car on Arkles Lane and staff on the City bus spotted the immediate aftermath as they made their way home following the 3-0 defeat in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final.

They told the coach driver to pull over and the City medical team got off the bus, still in their distinctive City tracksuits, to treat the fan until the emergency services arrived.

The City team bus was damaged on the way to the Anfield match
An onlooker said: “They were amazing. It was at the exact spot where the bus had been battered by bottles and bricks, but they didn't hesitate, and helped the poor girl out.

“City should be very proud of their staff - it says a lot for them as a club that they were prepared to help after being given such a frightening welcome.”

Earlier, the City bus had been pelted with objects after Liverpool fans had organised a 'coach greeting', saying the intended to 'scare' the City players back to 'Mancland'.

Fans chanted, waved banners and let off flares, smoke bombs and fireworks as the coach approached, but it soon turned ugly with the bus being hit by missiles.

Windows were cracked and shattered, and the bus was deemed to be unfit to transport the players home again after their 3 -0 defeat.

Manchester City fans urged to make the difference against Manchester United and Liverpool
Liverpool have vowed to take action against any fans found to have taken part, while Merseyside Police are actively trying to track down the people who hurled objects at the coach.

Uefa have already charged Liverpool on four counts – of setting off fireworks, throwing objects, causing damage and crowd disturbances.

City are understood to be pressing Merseyside Police to answers after their concerns about the route to the ground being a possible flashpoint appear to have fallen on deaf ears.

Can Man City do the improbable?

Right from start i think city will go for all out attack which will open up their defence

And If liverpool scores one which is inevitable considering the kind of form their front 3 is going its very hard for city to progress

People at times get sensitive when I criticise Scousers but their legend is on full display here, same people were defending a bloke for spitting on a kid. Their supporters are beyond moronic / vile and Anfield should never be allowed to host Sunday League Football games let alone that of high profile tournaments.

Absolutely disgusting.

Scousers are hardly the sharpest tools in the box, I think the government should release a health warning for those who are crazy enough to enter the dumping ground of Liverpool because their physical and mental will be at a high level of risk

Man City 1-0 Liverpool (1-3)

Roma 1-0 Barcelona (2-4)

Roma have had a couple of decent chances as have City.

Salah scores as Liverpool get the away goal! Surely that tie is over now!
Seconds later in Rome, Dzeko converts the penalty, meaning one more goal for the Italians and they're through! (If Barca don't score)

Roberto Firmino scores second for Liverpool, Liverpool lead 5-1 on aggregate.

Konstantinos Manolas scores in 82nd minutes to make it 3-0 for Roma (4-4 on aggregate).

Full time Scores:

Manchester City 1 - 2 Liverpool - aggregate score (1 - 5)

Roma 3 - 0 Barcelona - aggregate score (4 - 4)

Where was Messi over the 2 legs again? Oh, he played a throughball and that’s more important than goals apparently.

This is unreal soccer from Klopp's team, simply unbelievable. Those 12/13 were his only available senior players!!! Egypt is in relatively easier Group with Russia, Uruguay and Saudi Arab;if Salah remains fit, he is going to take them to 2nd round at least, if not QF. I am sure Real is going to sack Zizu, unless they win CL and Madrid Mafia is coming with 200mn offer + bribe for Klopp to join them.

And, Pep is indeed finding it difficult outside 2 horse race where, his team (s) often play with 14 men ..... his best place is ManCity, PSG or Chelsea - like club, like owner, like manager.

MMHS. Remember when I told you Robertson is a good player and you said he wouldn't even play 20 games this season?

Indeed he has improved lot and lots of credit goes to Klopp who almost hand picked the Hull City player.

However, it's true as well that he played 20+ game for a CL semi finalist only because his replacement was Moreno :(

Today's other game (just saw the highlights) is a perfect example what happens in La Liga. It was certain in La Liga that Pique would have gone unpunished, in fact Dzeko would have been booked for diving in box and Fazio would have been sent off ..... result, 2nd half hat-trick against 10 men .......

Players building entire career fame for one of top 2 Spanish sides should look at mirror for a soul searching.

Roma pulled off one of the all-time Champions League shocks as they beat Barcelona 3-0 in Rome to reach the Champions League semi-finals on away goals.

With Barca 4-1 ahead on aggregate after a comfortable Camp Nou victory in the first leg, Roma went all-out attack from the off at Stadio Olimpico.

Roma were all over Barcelona for the first half as the Spanish giants laboured both on and off the ball, and Edin Dzeko got the ball rolling with a neat poked finish after he ghosted onto a simple high through-ball just six minutes into the tie.

Patrik Schick wasted two presentable chances and Dzeko had a header saved as Roma went into search of a second goal before half-time, but Barca held on to a two-goal advantage over the tie heading into the interval.

But the Giallorossi picked up where they left off after the break, with Daniele De Rossi - whose ridiculous own goal opened the scoring for Barca in the first leg - scoring a penalty to put the hosts within one goal of reaching the semi-finals 58 minutes in.

De Rossi then passed up the chance to add his second of the night as he sent a free header wide with 21 minutes remaining.

Roma substitute Stephan El Shaarawy went close with a back-post volley which Marc Andre ter Stegen did well to paw away, but the Barca goalkeeper could do nothing as Kostas Manolas beat Nelson Semedo to a near-post corner to glance home a fine header with nine minutes left on the clock.

That goal parked scenes of wild jubilation at the Stadio Olimpico, and Roma held on to record an historic victory which sends them through to the final four with Liverpool.

Barcelona were on the front foot in the opening exchanges, with Sergi Roberto and Lionel Messi both having chances in the first four minutes.

But it was Roma who broke the deadlock after six minutes when De Rossi's pin-point pass was met in the box by Dzeko, who got the ball under his spell with a brilliant first touch before prodding past Ter Stegen from six yards.

Barca had an opportunity to hit back less than two minutes later after Juan Jesus tripped the on-rushing Messi 25 yards from goal but the Argentina forward missed the target with the subsequent free-kick.

Roma had a spring in their step and were attacking in numbers as they looked for a quickfire second.

Patrik Schick headed Aleksandar Kolarov's corner well wide in the 14th minute before Radja Nainggolan shot wide from range as a vociferous home crowd urged their team forward.

Dzeko cleared the bar with his long-range effort in the 25th minute, while it took a well-timed challenge from Gerard Pique to prevent Kolarov from getting a shot away in the box a minute later.

Barcelona looked rattled as Roma pressed with high intensity and threw everything at them when in possession.

Schick nodded Alessandro Florenzi's searching cross wide from the middle of the area in the 28th minute, while Ter Stegen was forced to tip over Dzeko's close-range header eight minutes later.

The visitors won another free-kick from shooting range in the 38th minute as Luis Suarez was brought down but once again Messi could not find the target from 25 yards.

Roma began the second half as they had finished the first - in complete control - and were awarded a penalty in the 56th minute when Pique fouled Dzeko in the area.

Captain De Rossi rifled the ball beyond Ter Stegen to double Roma's advantage and the home side were not finished there.

Ter Stegen was called into action once again in the 68th minute to keep Nainggolan at bay before Messi sent his 20-yard shot straight at Alisson six minutes later.

And after substitute Stephan El Shaarawy had been denied by a last-ditch save by Ter Stegen at the back post in the 79th minute, Manolas nodded Cengiz Under's cross past the German to make it 4-4 on aggregate with eight minutes left to play.

Barcelona threw the kitchen sink at Roma late on but with Messi and Ousmane Dembele unable to convert their chances, Roma held on to complete their unlikely comeback win.

He dominated the game with his shear individual brilliance

The perfectly good Man City goal that was not given changed the game. Had they gone 2-0 up at the break it would have been a very different second half. Instead, 1-0 up meant City had to come hard at 'Pool in the second half leaving gaps in the middle to be exposed by Mane, Salah and Firmino. Generally, it was a great defensive performance by the Reds particularly in the opening half hour with Van Dijk again a colossal figure at the back. Over the two legs Liverpool deserved to go through. Jesus opened the scoring, Muhammad had the last say. Perfect.

Coutinho's Barcelona who he joined to win major trophies being knocked out gives me further reason to smile from ear to ear. Their elimination from the tournament gives 'Pool a real good chance of winning it for a sixth time. Klopp is a magician who should be given a new contract right away. Can't wait to see who he signs in the summer.

Goals scored when their teams are losing in the Champions League:

Cristiano Ronaldo - 22
Lionel Messi - 4

This is the diff bw both players which shows their clutchness and big impact.Ronaldo just had arguably one of the best game in one of the toughest away stadium whilst messi still with his routine big pressure failure

He should have started at the start of the season.

The player deserves credit as well. Just admit you were wrong.

As a United fan I don't really hate Liverpool that much, am happy for them. Switched over to the Roma Barcelona game after Salah equalised on the night as the away goal put the tie to bed. Incredible scenes in Rome

Generally when Messi does fire in a key game he is celebrated in a way as if he has just won 20 World Cups for his country, when he fails there is not much noise.

When Ronaldo does well generally there's no where near as much celebration but when he fails he is crucified literally.

It comes down to reputation am not sure Ronaldo enjoys the same popularity as well and Messi is looked upon as being this invincible footballing figure that can do no wrong so every goal he does score is godly and everything else just don't matter even the failures in pressure games.

It seems like the name is on the cup.

Couple of offside decisions going City's way and things could have been different but I still feel LFC would have won and gone through. The difference between the two was Liverpools clinical finishing unlike City who couldn't get more than a few shots on goal in over 180 mins.

Pep has to adopt an environment where in 36 games, referee & his assistants won't blow for him. Last Ettihad trip, I can recall a 5-0, after Mane was sent off ....

Last 20/50 minutes are like 1-0 game and I hate to face Italian sides in such situations. This time Juve is on road and must be exhausted, so Real might edge past them, but if this game was on neutral venue, Real were dead duck.

What a disgraceful ref. Juventus will feel hard done after pulling off an amazing comeback.

Well done UEFA - CL needs at least one of the two Spanish sides, otherwise the moneybag won't be full.

A moment of madness from Benatia. You can go in from behind in the area but sending off Buffon was not neeeded.

Ice cool top corner from Ronaldo.

Real Madrid break Juve hearts once again.

Buffon was sent off because he actually shoved the ref,he'd gone crazy, since this was probably his last shot at winning the CL.

Buffon was sent off because he actually shoved the ref,he'd gone crazy, since this was probably his last shot at winning the CL.

He wasn't the only one shoving the ref. A yellow card would have been enough, not that Buffon or any keeper would have saved it.

Sorry but that slight push in the box never gets called otherwise there would be 50 penalty calls each match. Not surprised though UEFA doesn't wanna lose their 2 cashcows within 24 hours.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored an injury-time penalty to book Real Madrid's place in the Champions League semi-finals after losing the second leg 3-1, but winning the tie 4-3 on aggregate.

Juventus had wiped out Real Madrid's three-goal advantage from the first leg - Mario Mandzukic scored twice before Blaise Matuidi levelled the tie at 3-3 after an hour.

But with the tie heading towards extra-time, the home side were awarded a penalty following Mehdi Benatia's challenge on Lucas.

Gianluigi Buffon was shown a red card by Michael Oliver for protesting the decision, leaving Ronaldo to score his 41st goal of the season from the spot past substitute keeper Wojciech Szczesny.

Trailing 3-0, Juventus needed a positive start to get back into the tie and Mandzukic gave them the perfect start by heading home Sami Khedira's lofted cross to the back post with 90 seconds played to make it 1-0 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate.

Gareth Bale came close to restoring Madrid's three-goal aggregate lead but his shot was saved by Buffon and Bale's follow-up back heel found the side netting.

In a wide open start to the game, Isco had the ball in the back of Juventus' net, but the flag was up for offside as he followed up after Buffon spilled Ronaldo's shot.

Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri was forced into a substitution after just 17 minutes, replacing Mattia De Sciglio with Stephan Lichtsteiner.

That save proved to be crucial as three minutes later Mandzukic scored with another back post header, this time from Lichtsteiner's cross from the right.

In added time at the end of a pulsating first half, Raphael Varane saw his header from six yards out rebound off the bar after being picked out by Toni Kroos' delivery from the left.

With half an hour to play, Juventus had wiped out Real Madrid's three-goal advantage. Keylor Navas failed to collect a cross into the box and Matuidi was in the right place at the right time to poke the ball home for an improbable equaliser.

Real Madrid searched for the first home goal of the tie and Isco forced Buffon into another good save as he turned the shot past the post for a corner from which Varane's shot on the turn sailed wide.

Ronaldo, from a similar position from where Mandzukic score his second, failed to find the target with five minutes remaining in normal time.

The Portuguese played a pivotal role in the conclusion to the game. It was his header that Lucas was about to control when Benatia was adjudged to have fouled the Madrid man six yards from goal.

Buffon took his protests too far and was sent off by the English referee before Ronaldo showed great composure to fire his penalty past Szczesny to send the defending champions through to the semi-finals.

What a terrible post, not to mention he was the one who climbed above Sandro to set up Lucas to win the penalty. Clear penalty and red card for Buffon also.

My GOAT would never let a 3 goal lead slip against an Italian side, the best Italian side as well!!

What a disgraceful and sad end to Juventus' champions league run, and Buffon's UCL career.

Semi final line up:

Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid

Liverpool vs Roma

What do you predict the final will be then guys?

I'm going for Bayern Munich to get past Real Madrid and Liverpool will beat Roma IMO.

So I think Liverpool v Bayern final - Bayern to win

Lol it was a clear pentaly.

Not clear, but you can give penalty for that.

BUT, think about the striker is Higuan and defender Ramos .... and GK Navas - Higuan would have been booked for simulation. Here on top of penalty, referee sent off Gigi for touching him at that heat of the moment!!!!!!!!

Penalty would have been given. We can't live on such scenarios.

Buffon swore at the referee and you can't put your hands on the referee. There was no need to act like that.

Well done UEFA - CL needs at least one of the two Spanish sides, otherwise the moneybag won't be full.

That was a blatant penalty, not even arguable.....all the experts in espn, sky sports,BTS sports said the same

Any attack from behind with no intention to play the ball is a foul. It was from behind, Any other area besides penalty area, no one would even bother to protest. Foul in penalty area= penalty

I would say the typical italian mentality backfired them after scoring 3,they tried defending with all players against arguably the best attacking force in football and the opposition just banged in no time

Happy with the draw that madrid avoided Liverpool.A team who scored 30 goals in last 8 matches in the CL !! Outrageous attack. Heck they would have exposed and scored 5-6 against the weak madrid full backs

As far as Bayern is concerned its a 50-50 tie, madrid is a superior team overall and have ronaldo thats a huge plus but unlike last few meetings it is Don Jupp's bayern this time

This is jupp's fourth Champions League Campaign and last three times he reached the final!!thats scary

So Ramos does not get suspended for hanging out in the dugout instead of the stands. Double standards by UEFA again.

Wonder in what ways are they going to screw Bayern this year.

He should have started at the start of the season.

The player deserves credit as well. Just admit you were wrong.

I am indeed wrong in a sense that he made more than 20 appearances. But, it's true as well that he got his chance for the lack of options; otherwise a Scottish irregular doesn't start for Liverpool. His last Club was Hull City, now in Championship.

Penalty I can't argue, though the timing was heart breaking. But, Gigi shouldn't have been sent off, a booking was enough and he would have got the chance to take the game to over time.

He was always a step above Hull City. He was performing well for them.

Indeed it was heart breaking for any team but they have only themselves to blame

Buffon sent off was harsh but i think it has nothing to do with the contrast of the match. That was a great penalty with so much power on the top right corner,9 out of 10 keepers don't gonna stop it adding to that buffon's record against cristiano was pretty worse

In this market, if a 23 years old left back is available for 8mn, uncontested; you have to realize that Yanks hit a gold mine with chancy dig. This is something that's hurting Liverpool for long - but, these luck happens once may be out of 10. Since Coutinho was available for 12mn, we have been taking too many such risks and Robertson is among few who turned into gold. But, I do like Robertson and he is a fantastic buy because of being "home grown" as well.

CR won't have missed that for sure. Statistically, most successful penalties are those hit towards top left corner by right footed shooter, and CR hit that perfectly and at pace, exactly to that direction. But, Gigi didn't deserve to be sent off in that moment, he is not a emotionless robot.

UEFA Champions League (2018) : Semi Final 1 : Liverpool vs Roma (Leg 1 of 2)

Jürgen Klopp has spoken to BT Sport about what he’s looking for tonight:

First of all a good game, and then a result which we could work with. But we cannot get a result without a good game. That’s it. It’s a strong [Roma] side. Playing the same system like they played against Barcelona. So, big honour. It’s all good, and really exciting. It’s an open game. If you go through their line-up, it’s a mix-up of youth, experience, skills. If you go through our line-up it’s the same thing.

You never go into the game and think about conceding goals. We always play our football. We don’t want to concede but we want to score, never at the cost of a leaking defence. It’s April, we worked together since July. We know how we have to play the game. But in the end there’s a ball, 11 players on the other side, and you have to have answers for all the things. You need to learn from the game. It would be nice not to concede. We don’t think about a result at the moment, we think about the performance we have to do.

According to the Sunday Times’ Jonathan Northcroft, there has been some violence outside the stadium. “Roma fans have just attacked Liverpool supporters with belts, outside the Albert. About 20. One guy down getting treatment,” he wrote on Twitter. “The Roma group came out of Venmore St, and attack was sudden. Picked an older Liverpool fan and attacked him. A lot of police around but they were slow on the scene. Poor guy is still down. Horrible stuff. Roma group were chased down the street before police arrived.”
